I just think there should be an area where you would be free to talk about anything, as the are many things that don't fit into any of the exsisting areas, though you do already have a wide variation of areas. But for me ideas like the trading card game, is meant for that paticular type of card, but for those participating in using such cards are likely to have others to discuss. Another is other games. Also people may just want to talk about general things Tolkein related or not, that just don't fit into other areas.

This is only my suggestion, I think the forum's amazing, but a less specialised area would be a nice thing.

Well I can't comment about trading cards as I know nothing about them.
I can't understand what you mean about Games, Games forum is for both Tolkien related and not Tolkien related games. Did you mean other games as not tolkien realated?
I think the Prancing Pony covers the general things, there we discuss anything that interests the members. There are threads about cheese, football, war, karaoke etc etc.
I hope this answers your questions, if it doesn't all suggestions are welcomed!

Well I feel like I shouldn't talk about things outside Tolkien's work, as all the descriptions suggest not to. It feels a little uncomfortable to write anything in all the sections you described. Maybe if the description was more open then, I at least would be comfortable. I just don't want to upset anyone by writing about no related things thats all.

the pony is open to any and all discussions..........and believe me, any and all things is what gets discussed lol just go and have a read........youll see that theres really no need to feel uncomfortable :cool:
the one thing i would say, before you start a thread in the pony, is, do a search first, just to make sure it hasnt already got a thread.......some of the most unlikely things have ;) lol......but otherwise, within the rules of the forum......anything goes :thumbs:
if you have a trading card game that you want to discuss in the games area, just start a thread..........the other forums are mostly Tokien based tho, but thats fair enough.........apart from "Other Movies" in Amon Hen, where you can discuss any other movies you either love or loathe, and other books in the Library, where the same goes for books

Okay thats great, I admit I missed reading the Prancing Pony's description. My problem are these:

PC and Console Games
Chat about the latest Lord of the Rings games, whether on PC, Xbox, PS2 or even the old ZX Spectrum!

I do of course own TTT (on Gamecube) but this area suggests talking about LOTR games on consoles (I guess that others are discussed but this confuses me).

Trading Card Game
Chat about Decipher's Trading Card Game.

This suggests only to talk about Decipher's TCG (I guess the again talk about others).

Okay I'm sorry I'm stupid, but I'm nervous of using such areas other than what they say as I really don't want to upset anyone, especially on such a friendly forum.

Thank you for doing adding other on those descriptions. I feel that I can safely use those now.......all I've got to do is figure out what to write! I'm sorry I confused you to begin with! *will try to be clearer in the future*

I'm wondering why you would want to change the i into I. The only reason it's like that is.....well ummm I don't know. I guess it's because on the other forum I visit I accidently typed it without and it stuck! Feel free to change it if you thinks its better. I'm such a minor person I don't think it will matter, maybe a minor i describes me?

Yes....I second what BG said! We value highly each and every member of the community, and are more than willing to modify things when it seems appropriate.

And the only reason that I asked, is like BG said as well, we're really keen on having usernames look like actual names, the boards just look a lot cleaner that way...that's all.......:p

No you've asked a question. Well I guess that I had no avatar as I forgot to save my changes or something knowing me. I wouldn't call me a strange bird though.....more like a me. That just describes me perfectly! Can't say me is Igtica though, my poor made up creature is nothing like me, i just borrow the name I gave it ......if that makes sense......ummmmm no now I think of it. Ummmm meh? Anyhow to make you (and those lovely trout loving people in the chatroom) happier I have chosen one from your...ummm....extensive range. Yes one of those amazing amount of 8! Don't ask why I chose that one.... I like Shadowfax, so Gandalf is the closest I can get to Shadowfax....being Gandalf is its rider.....and ......ummmm . Ok no sense again. I'm not doing too well here on trying to make more sense. Anyway I also filled out my profile a bit more for the trout lovers......not that its anything......I've probably done something else wrong or missed something.....or ....something.

So it was Winyaél Greenleaf's idea to give me a capital. It actually quite upset me to get 'capitalized' as in every other thing that I have joined I always have the same name and that is igtica (note the small i). So it's really strange to come on here and be Igtica. Oh well......I guess its only a name but it was what set me apart from the made-up creature I gave the name to...thats all. But I guess that means that I'm really not talking and Igtica is...lol. But I'm getting over it now....*remembers to add WG to her 'to get back' list*....just kidding, but I can see the point of all capitals in names as it makes them look....er.......how did Illuvatar put it.......more.......er..Nameish? or however you wanna say that.

Anyways, I was wandering why this thread was still in use before I looked, it's kinda weird to come back to a thread and see more posts when you thought it was finished!

I'm off to annoy someone else now,

Okay ..okay.....let's not get our fur in an uproar now! lol

This whole username thing has been driven by me since we opened the boards last June. In fact I believe that it all started with contacting Catz, and seeing if she would be willing to go from catz to Catz, and believe it or not, she did not struggle too awful much!:p

Now, maybe it's just a quirk of mine, and maybe not, but we've endeavored in every aspect of the site to remain "Tolkien to the bone", and as such, over the past year I have contacted many many members that have registered with usernames that have numbers, special characters, etc. in them, and offered them the opportunity to change their nick to something Tolkienish or at least to something that looks like a name.

For the most part, I've gotten nothing but positive responses, and I'm grateful to everyone who has been so understanging when it comes to it. In fact, there are several folks that were extrememly happy as they were able to get themselves something elvish or one of the major character's names as a nick. Sheesh, I mean there are still hundreds of Tolkien's character names that have not been taken.

Since we went into development of this site, one of the major concerns has been readablity and presentation, and so that's why I was contacting registered members and have assigned my admins now with the task of trying to keep usernames looking like real names. Whether it's the removal of special characters, adding a space to seperate two names, or even something as simple as the capitalization of the 1st character, I really don't think that given the reasons for which we pursue this, that it's too much to ask.

Again, I want to thank all who have been so understanding in this area, and all who we approach in the future for their understanding.

Hiya Radagast - the admin thing here runs on three levels Admin, SuperModerators and Moderators. If you click on the little tree under my postcount you will be taken to the list of the Admins, Moderators etc. To become a Moderator you should aply when a vacancy opens up - so far the Admins (apart from Illu and Fatty) are chosen from Moderator/SuperModerator staff *internally you might say*

Hey all! I have a suggestion or more like a "Warning":

For all of them, who get to see RotK in Jan.. or later... the Ringers in Asia for example... Would'nt annoying for them that we see ROTK in Dec. and then we go and post tons of posts about the movie and Best scene and line... etc. And there, we would completely spoil the whole "Magic" experience for them... Im just bringing it up... so y'all would be aware of it.. maybe they dont mind or maybe they want to hear.. or is it a risk that is there from the start to log on and "maybe" get a ´spoiled cinema trip... ?

I was ´wondering if there should be any "forced" spoiler alert.. you know... you right spoiler every where?

Well...here's the deal.....comments like "Hobbits are stereotypically gay", or comments of a similar nature violate the #1 rule for forum behaviour. 1. No foul language, racist comment, religious bigotry, homophobia or personal attacks. These kinds of behaviour are not acceptable in the real world and so not in this virtual one. These rules are posted in each and every forum and agreed upon during registration.

In these areas we must maintain a zero tolerance policy as these forums are open to everyone around the world and of all ages groups, so I'm hoping you can understand as to why you got "hounded" and were asked to remove the statement.

The basic rule of thumb in this area is that even if it's a borderline statement, if it can be misunderstood and found to be offensive by anyone, then it's best just not to post it in the first place.

We have a nice friendly place here and we will endeavor at all costs to keep it that way.

No...that's not what Catz is saying at all......although discussions of this type are usually handled offline. It's good that you've questioned this and sought advise from my staff and myself prior to placing something in your siggy that could be interpeted as offensive.

What I believe Catz is saying, is the same thing that I said earlier........If there's a chance that you may offend somebody, then it's better to be safe than sorry, by not posting it in the first place. And as I said earlier, if you have doubts yourself as to whether or not something would be appropriate, then it's probably not.

I've indicated that the term "Gay Bar" used in the proper context would probably be okay. Just be forwarned that if any of the staff are contacted in regards to how you use it, then it will be removed straight away.

Any further inquiries in regards to this matter should be handled via private message.

I belive that the "Suggestion" at hand was from Radagast in regards to posting "Spoiler Alert" or is there a way to "force" spoiler alerts......and ...well.....so far to date...most folks are pretty good about being sensitive in this area and putting the alert right in the title of their thread. There's no automated way in which to flag these types of posts, but like I said, people generally make it pretty obvious and there have even been "Non Spoiler" discussion threads...hehe

you do know there is softwear you can put onto the forum that lets you make spoilers, where you have to highlight to see using spoilerboxs
for example look to a thread that is used in my forum

note this site is not a tolkien related site
