Did ya like it?

Outside of the details (i.e. Aragorn having a sword, being at the TOP of weathertop rather than the BOTTOM etc.) I liked it - very dramatic.

I agree!! Another job well done by our man PJ!!

I especially liked the Nazgul bit!

oh yeah Illu.......'specially that bit where the Nazgul appear out of the shadows....i mean, you know somethings gonna appear, and then they just kind of melt out of the darkness...beautifully shot.....and the look on of agony on Frodos face as he pulls the ring away from the WK, just before the WK stabs him to get it, since he wont hand it over....makes you realise that resisting the Nazgul was almost as painful as being stabbed....scary stuff.....and of course Sam and his noble stand, without an icecubes hope in hell, but he tries anyway:cool:

i think PJ did a very good job with trying to stay with the book and making it so the people who havn't read the books understands whats goin on. I actually liked some of his alterations... made it that more interresting ;)

its actually quite a subtle scene too....many people have complained that it takes away from Frodos bravery, but actually.....in the part of the scene where the WK is leaning in to take the ring from him, fully expecting Frodo to hand it over meekly, the biggest expression of agony comes as he pulls the ring away from the WK's hand, followed by the pain of the stabbing, which seems to be the lesser of the two agonies......a lovely subtle little demonstration of the bravery of the hobbit, against huge odds:thumbs:

One of the reasons I was sold on Elijah as Frodo is for those subtle moments, I could name several more but this isn't the right thread. ;)

I liked Weathertop for the most part, the Nazgul were incredible. Though I always wonder where Aragorn went off too...

There is one thing I'm not sure I'm pleased with (just to add some argument to this thread) is that the Nazgul coming was one more thing blamed on Pippin and Merry... and Sam! I would have liked to see something closer to the book there, about the Ringwraiths actually fearing the fire... oh well, too much speculation I suppose.

And besides, if it had been done differently I wouldn't have the pleasure of hearing, "Oh, great, ash on my tomatoes." Made it worth it. ;)

"Put it out you fools!"

I liked the fighting and the part where the Wraiths fade into shot, and drop off the edge like birds was good.

hahaha lol lol lol Nessa! I would have liked to hear that! It would be very funny, but I suppose it wasnt the right time for laughs, as of course, something very destressing was about to happen to Frodo.

mmm... (here comes another one of my stories)... like the time i brought my friend (who had never seen the movie or read the books) The part in the movie when Bilbo gives Frodo Sting and the mithril coat at Rivendell and Bilbo notices the Ring and his eyes get really scary when he jumps around quickly and goes "it's mine!"... my friend was the only one in the theatre who screamed and then she burst out laughing when Bilbo was back to normal and all apologetic... i'm like "shh.... you're not supposed to be laughing at this part!" lol

She also screamed when the Nazgul stabbed Frodo - it was wicked funny just looking at her - all huddled up in the chair (gosh, is that possible!) lol

awwww she laughed at Frodo getting stabbed? now thats over doing it... Elijah doesnt over-do it until The Cave Troll sceen! Whats so funny about it

Now i wonder exactly how Elijah does it. Everyone is staring at him and the camera is right in his face and he has to act like he just got stabbed hahahaha how embarrasing! roflmao

haha well, the reason my friend laughed at Frodo getting stabbed is because she was the only one who screamed when she saw the Nazgul and both me and my other friend were yelling at her to shut up! :nono:

Catz: Well Said. That is exactly what I think too. It's the subtle moments that reveal the depth of Frodo's inner strength. I don't see any other actor but Elijah portraying Frodo with that degree of wonderful mixture of frailty and courage. I still get chills when I see the scene on Weathertop and believe me - I have seen it more times than you would believe me.

Yeah this is one of my favourite scenes, really showing the loyalty of the hobbits. The Nazgul look super cool too :)

I agree with catz about the scary nazgul...GOD they give me the shivers :sneezy: :(

U know the quote "They're what nightmares are made of" I COMPLETELY agree.

When i was smaller the ghost of christmas future in 'A Christmas Carol' used to scare the HELL outta me...and now there's nine...on scary horses...with screaming...and swords... *pil shreeks and dashes off into a new corner (with cushions)* mecry

I thought that version was ok...but I really think Frodo needed to act stronger...nothing of him taking a brave wing at that Nazgul...or him telling them to go away and leave him alone at the Ford...hello! he needs to be shown being brave with the little things, because he's got much bigger problems on ahead that he needs to be brave about--Mordor!

Yet PJ did the best he could have done, I suppose. Well, not according to my friend who would like to see PJ boil in a pot of his own waste for cutting the Scouring of the Shire and Tom Bombadil, but that's another story...(or she would like to take up a sword and chop PJ's head off. lol)

But OT...... I agree that Frodo is made out to be too weak...ur right...this is pish compared to ROTK stuff. Frodo needs to toughen up! I hope they redeem him with some of the first scenes with gollum. :read: Weathertop made him out to be much less than what we know he is! :battle:

I hear Frodo is going to be a great deal braver in TTT with Gollum and such - but TTT is prob. all we will see of the brave hobbit side, being that by ROTK he will be spent, and as we all know, Frodo almost gives it up in his heart in ROTK - handing the bravery to Sam. When Elijah protrays Frodo in TTT and ROTK, I'm sure he will do a great job, as he has done in FOTR, i think.

I have been upset with Frodo's portrayal for a while, but I realize that all of his insecurities and helplessness had to be shown in the first film, to make the audience understand how completely unfit for adventure he was. I understand he will toughen up in the next films, and I have no doubt in Elijah Wood.

I have noticed a few raised eyebrows when Frodo promptly drops his sword and falls down, but its not a part I particularly dislike.

I think its cute - but then again, I am always on his side, so I'll shutup now *slinks in a dark corner and grovels over the picture on my paper-back copy of FOTR*

I feel as if the weathertop is to demonstrate Aragorn's fighting skills and his courage! And it shows how helpless the hobbits are compared to the Nazguls.

That's an interesting way of looking at it. That the scene was not more for the hobbits as it was aragorn... :read: I think in someways i agree.
