OK, OK, Lets keep with the Forum rule here. Nothing dirty or inappropriate posted. But do you like sounds or groups whom not too many people may have heard of or might be familiar with? Such as these

personally I like the following:

Deep Forest- African Pigmies (it says on the album)
InsideOut- A capella group out of Idaho
Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas
Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald
Maidens of the Celtic Harp
Michael McClean

I like all kinds of music but these are a few of the ones few other people may not be familiar with or have heard as often. Give us a hint? Tell us about your oddities...;):evilcool:   roflmao :p :p

I'm a sucker for Irish folk songs..... probably an unhealthy obsession.

I especially love the Irish Rovers- I have three of their records (that's right, records- their hayday in music was the 60s or 70s). Their most popular song was 'Unicorn'- a song oh-to-familiar to elementary students nowadays.

And I've heard of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. In fact, I think my parents have a Billie Holiday record or two.

I love Unicorn!! Most people hav heard of Ella or Billie but few people my age (early 20's) listen to them. I love folk music in general. I am a sucker for listening to showtunes and Broadway musicals too. I sing Christmas songs in the shower!!! IN MARCH!!!

I must admit, I like bluegrass too. My sister lives in Kentucky, and I visit her every summer. We occasionally get to hear a bluegrass band (usually as an opening act or pre-show entertainment). I want to learn how to play a banjo.

Celebrían
March 31st,2003, 05:55 AM
I almost hate to post this here (because I think bluegrass is cool, not odd) anyway, yes, I love bluegrass, mainly because it takes real talent to be able to play the violin, banjo, mandolin, etc. Anybody can sind a song, but to be able to play the instrment AND sing-this takes talent! I don't guess this would classify as "music", but lately I've been listening to Steve Martin's old stand-up routines on CD.....so funny.....Back to topic...love bluegrass!

Mandolin !!!!! Thank you!! My brain was temporarily on fade!! I couldn't remember the name. Ok, so I also like Benedictine Monks, not just the kitchy kind that became famous a few years ago with CHANT but the ones who sing A Capella. I was in a production of Sound of Music a few years back and performed as one of the Nuns. We had to sing the Latin hymns (I sang the equivalant of Bass in Alto range) and I have been hooked since. Not to mention I think Tibetan Monks sound cool even if they can be kinda grinding and growling with their chants. Creepy sounding sometimes too...but coool;)

Celebrían

Ooo yes! That is very cool! Chanting is very neat. I guess you could add "musical soundtracks" to my "odd" list. I love "The Sound of Music", Lintefaniel! Another one of my favorties is "Fiddler on the Roof".

I'm a fan of the classic Bugs Bunny stuff as well as "Courage the Cowardly Dog" (he's so cute! he reminds me of my Jack Russell Terrier) I know that was off topic...a weird music obsession? Well, I love the bagpipes ("Braveheart" baby, yeah!)

Lintefaniel
April 5th,2003, 05:21 AM
She's a her and she's beautiful in Face and even more in voice. Have you seen Dreamwork's Prince of Eygpt? The one put out a few years ago with Val Kilmer and Ralph Feinnes doing the voices? She (Ofra Haza) sang the voice of Moses's Hebrew mother ... her voice makes me cry. I hadn't heard anything like it before that movie and I cried each time she sang...I have been hooked since....She died in 2000 of AIDS related health problems....she wasn't old at all....as you see in the last post only 41. Terrible loss.

Celebrían
April 5th,2003, 06:59 PM
Yes, I have heard of "The Prince of Egypt". I'll rent it so I can hear her sing. I didn't know that was how she died! So sad! (every death is sad, but I think you know what I mean...) But, yeah, Lin, I'll check that out...

Also, this past Christmas I got to hear the symphony perform "The Messiah". It was absolutley incedible. Ever since then, I've been listeing to as much classical music as I can get my hands on (I liked classical music before, but hearing it performed live, instead of just on a CD really makes a difference). ;)

Lintefaniel
April 6th,2003, 05:10 AM
OH!! In High school we sang a few songs from the Messiah. We had a large high school choir (120 students) and it worked. It's sooooo wonderful. I love classical music. My choir Teacher introduced us to it with the smaller choirs too and offered solos to myself and a few of my friends. "Magnificat", and "Requiem" have beautiful songs and pieces you might enjoy.

Lady Arien

Ofra Haza also sang backup on a Sisters of Mercy song called "Temple of Love." She has a beautiful voice...I identified it immediately when we saw Prince of Egypt.

John Rutter wrote the versions that I am speaking of. They are incredible choral arrangements. He's phenomenal and has the potential to change your life. If my teacher had never insisted we sing several different original songs or arrangements through out my high school years I don't know where I would be. I could give you links but I don't wanna get in trouble for spamming...;) Just look for John Rutter...if you love choral music that is....

Well, it is an easy song to get stuck in your head.... *begins to sing, horribly off key* Something is starting, right now!!! Something is starting, oh wow!!! My Little Pony!!! My Little Pony!!! My Little Pony Tales!!! Heh heh heh.... fun stuff....

At the moment, however, I'm listening to the Talespin song.... gotta love Baloo, Louis, and Don Carnage (pronounced with French accent).....

Ursula is the second best Disney villain (looses to Maleficent by a hair or two).

Lintefaniel
April 13th,2003, 03:45 AM
Well heck ya, but I think actually for me the best villian was the one on Hunchback...he is the most human. Rather the one with the most human flaw....Lust! That is a cool movie.....Soliel Moon Fry was named after a song in the musical Annie Get Your Gun and I have had the song in my head ever since....does anyone know the name!!! "I got the Sun (Soliel) in the morning and and the Moon (duh) at night"

They're British and they're graduates of Oxford....and they are superb.....I'll get some links...but they are Male Madrigal singers. Which means the men sing the Soprano and the Alto...called....of course Countertenor. They make phenomenal sounds together... http://www.kingsingers.com/homepage.htm

Heheh, that's got to be hard to do... well, I guess it appends on the voice. Those soprano's (uh... countertenors?) won't get very low on the other hand :) ... arr lol funny.

Although some of you might be familiar with Gothic Metal (or GothRock) I'd be surprised if someone here knew Within Temptation (http://www.within-temptation.com)
I guess it'll be a long way for me to make them a bit popular on the WotR forum :p

Never heard of him, BG. Could you elaborate?I have found that the best way to get good organ music is to buy wedding cd's. They have all of my fav selections on them.....

he's basically a really famous organ player (might only be faous in UK or summat) and the concert was so good....he put like a video thing by the organ linked to a big screen so we could see what he was doing while he was playing!

Hey there RavenWingsofDarkness I had me a little browse for those lyrics and this is what I found:

Sweet dreams are made of these
Who am I to disagree?
Travelled the world
And the seven seas
Everybody’s looking for something

Aparently the lyrics are by Marilyn Manson.
