I agree! I love The Ruling Ring. I like the way the Ring is made up of the different colours of the background, it's very effective, especially as you can see a bit of the gold colour as well.

i liked the Galadriel painting, but that's not the way she was described, or the way i pictured her at least. it's still a really good painting though. i like The Ruling Ring too

yup, precisely, which is why i say it's quite a different style :) Somehow, the Galadriel looks more innocent and younger and perhaps not so *ahem* wise... lol

I found Donato's work last summer by accident and fell in love with it! In a library in Ohio I came across a 1991 publication of the single volume edition of LotR and this was the cover art.

I found Donato's classical style to fit so well with the story. After a couple of unsuccessful bids, I was finally able to get my own copy of this volume and dust jacket on ebay. :whoohoo:

I'm glad to see others appreciate his style as well.

The title of the piece is simply "The Lord of the Rings" and it was the dust jacket art for that 1991 publication of the book. I don't remember who the publisher was right now... book's at home.

Winyael, the book cost me $35 (I had to up my bids three times mecry ) but it was worth it to me.

Donato also has 13"x19" prints of this available for $25 at his site. :D
