... this Forum could be very quiet indeed!!! I for one plan to be ensconced in front of a dvd player watching FOTR!!!!!

:elfqueen:

A! Elbereth
July 14th,2002, 08:22 PM
*Rubbing her hands together, A! Elbereth walks into Hollywood Video to hear the quiet meoldies of the radio. She looks around and spys the word, "Lord" on a dvd. The rest could not be seen because of the brochures covering her view. A! Elbereth takes a few steps and then quickly starts to power walk towards the dvd. As she draws closer the word "Rings" appears, as her paces quicken. She reaches the dvd and slowly lifts it up. It was beautifully wrapped in plastic, shining brightly from the dim store lights. She could see brave faces on the cover and began squealing with joy. Running toward the counter, tripping a few times, she grabs out her $20 bill, along with a few $1 bills. She checks out and races to her car and drives home with anticipation.*

*A! Elbereth runs out of the car and slams the door, loud enough for it to echo throughout the neighborhood. She runs inside, rips off the plastic and carefully opens it up to find a disc. She puts it into the dvd player and slowly sits in her seat as the words, "The Lord of the Rings" appears in fiery letters and then switches to the main menu. The play button is pressed.....*

I read about the Firey letters and main menu... sounds cool. But this is exactly what will happen 23 days from now...

Twenty three days seems terribly long....
There's no telling how often I'm going to watch it! ;)

Unfortunately I don't own a DVD player, so its just the video for me. Oh Well.

Catz
July 15th,2002, 01:40 AM
well....ive already seen it.......lots......of times (in the theatre), but yeah, i imagine i'll be glued to my DVD too.....isnt it funny how 23 days doesnt seem that much shorter than the nine months or so we had ahead of us after the theatre release of FOTR? or at least it doesnt to me.....but then im strange:naughty: lol
:catz:

Nessa
July 15th,2002, 01:48 AM
Ah yes, many people saw it lots of times in the theatre. Not me. Twice. No kidding. Two times. And the last was in February! I saw it twice again in a hotel last month, that makes four. So I'm really having withdrawl pains....:(

A! Elbereth
July 15th,2002, 03:04 AM
Yes... my withdrawal pains just shot up a few notches last week. I'm hoping that my Ibuprofien comes in the mail soon lol lol... I saw it 6 times... I wanted to see it 10 but i ran out of money. mecry

Well I must say I cannot wait to get my hands on the real DVD, infact I will have to buy a player so I can watch it on tv rather than PC.

Needless to say I think that we will be running some competitions in this respect, especailly in November for the collectors edition...................

Just a note actually. remember folks don't check the news in the forum for updates, it is only to talk about news. All updates etc go on the sites main page. Reason being we are a website with a forum, not a forum with a website :-)

Anyway enough of my hijacking topics, back to the DVD.........................

Tinuviel
July 15th,2002, 06:17 PM
*moves over to Nessa's corner* I don't have a DVD player either... hmmph:(

But I'm bugging the husband to get one in time for the November release of the DVD, all chockful with the extra 30 mins of footage.....WHEEEEE

I've watched FoTR 10 times at the cinema, and I still miss it.

I'm planning to time my re-read of TTT , a chapter a day, leading up to the Dec 18 release..... :p

Ok, off to post something On Topic for a change! ;)

Pil
July 15th,2002, 07:28 PM
I've seen FOTR MAAAAAANY times...but that is thanx to pirates :nono:  lol

I saw it six in the cinema though... :hooray: :)

Bonos-girl and i will be on holiday with my family in Brittany in France when it is released, but we come back two or three days afterwards. I intend to go to WHSmith's before even getting back home! There's no guessing what we will be doing while our photos are developed! :p

P.S. Bonos-girl is on a french exchange at the moment so that's why she isn't around! :batty:

A! Elbereth
July 15th,2002, 11:10 PM
Well altogether I saw FOTR 17 times because I downloaded it from KAZAA..... Watch it once every 1-2 weeks hehe lol:naughty:

Algamesh
July 16th,2002, 04:12 AM
Hold on to your KAZAA copies though. It's the only place you'll be able to see some of the things that will be 'corrected' in the DVD release. That automobile chugging along in the Shire is a HOOT!

...ah, I don't mean to pontificate, but the viewing experience is so different when you watch the movie at a cinema. You get the proper Dolby surround sound and the stunning visuals are get their proper due on the wide screen....

*Tin looks at what she just wrote and realise she DID pontificate*

:p ack, well blame in on the fact that I actually work on movies for a living!

Anyway, I'll definitely get the DVD because of the proper transfer from the film.

And by the way, I do have the Kazaa copies also :naughty: for those moments when I want to get swept away by the Mines of Moria sequence. Loved the part when Gandalf mumbles "perhaps I can risk a little more light" and then it brighten to reveal the entire place, complete with majestic, sweeping music.....what a goose pimply moment.....

Pil
July 16th,2002, 08:33 AM
That's one of my fav bits in the whole moria sequence...and the relevant part of the soundtrack. :p Sam - "Well that's an eyeopener and no mistake...!" Aw! :)

I got a DVD player/tv combo for my birthday! Go parents! Looking forward to cing it at home! :hooray: :dragon:

Elbereth! Listen to you! "Plenty of extra DVD players" when some of us haven't got one. ;)

Maybe I'll get one for christmas, more likely my brother will get a Playstation 2 and it will be good enough...

Right now I'm concentrating on getting the VCR on the big screen TV fixed before August...

Catz
July 18th,2002, 04:16 AM

Jeez some of you younglings lol lol.......itd be nice to have someone else buy things like DVDs....*sighs* but us older folk have to pay for our own toys:naughty: lol lol

Fatty
July 18th,2002, 04:20 AM
Yes it should be good, though please don't discuss pirate versions of the DVD on the forum. We all know you can download them etc, however, we need to stay the right side of the law and don't what to be seen promoting this kind of thing.

Thanks

Fatty

Personally I am desperate fro my bookends :-)

July 18th,2002, 06:32 PM
I spent my non-existent (sp?) money on a DVD-player last week. It wasn't that expensive, so I figured I could afford it, even though I already owe people money. I'd better get a job now. Especially since I've already ordered my copy of the LOTR DVD. I'm supposed to get it in my mail box on August 6th. :) Lovely!

July 19th,2002, 06:43 PM
I will be watching FOTR on my TV downstairs, for the TV is quite large and its brand new! Our old TV has the worst color you could see... I do believe that tv is older than me! hahalol I dont suspect I'll be gettin FOTR ON august 6th... but maybe the 7th-10th becuase I'm sure if I tried they will be sold out until they restock.....

Pil
July 19th,2002, 06:46 PM
Ok...

a) camp outside the shop until it opens and be the first to MAKE YOUR PURCHASE!

OR...

B) PRE-ORDER! Guaranteed a purchase! :wiggle:

A! Elbereth
July 19th,2002, 06:50 PM
I only wish I could do either of those - but I never have had the chance to preorder - and I cant off the internet becuase I just dont trust people with my credit card (I have a credit card just for little things)

I bet the nespaper is going to have an article about all the LOTR fans waiting outside the department and vidoe stores... I live in a small town so any news is good news. I mean... the had Mock Drowning news on the front page! Give me a break! Who cares about those lifeguards! lollol

sorry went a little off of the subject

Pil
July 19th,2002, 06:55 PM
Seriously? No chance to pre-order? like, EVERY respectable shop in my are is doing a pre-ordering service! :elfeek: :o

A! Elbereth

I'm saying I never had the time, since I can't drive yet (unfortunately), I never got to it mecry

Nessa
July 22nd,2002, 04:09 AM
Don't feel bad, I didn't pre-order either. My father said it was silly to....we'll see how silly it might have been when he's standing in line the morning it comes out...;)

They had this deal at Blockbuster (American video rental place) where you bought a 10-week rental card for 25$ and got a copy free.....couldn't convince the parents about that either.

A! Elbereth
July 22nd,2002, 04:14 AM
Yeah my mom said ,"They will have plenty of copies! I'm sure they'll be enough for everyone!"

Shhhyyeah! (Minnesotan 'yeah right!') All the copies will be sold out they always are with the big hits until a week later! Argh! How will I wait... oh dear

Pil
July 22nd,2002, 07:16 PM

I'm not to worried, I'll wait in line for hours if I must! The Blockbuster employees where Lotr pins on there shirts, one lady had a simply beautiful one with Frodo on it....she told me she'd give it to me after the movie came out!!! Another guy had one of Sam, but the man frightened me so I dared not ask.

Soz, I know you posted this ages ago, but I had to say. When I went to see it the 2nd time, at a proper multiplex, Dolby sound, widescreen, possible smellyvision cinema something HILARIOUS happened.
When Frodo woke up in Rivendell, you hear Sam's voice call out 'Frodo!' from the right side of the screen, correct? Well, thanx to the wonders of Dolby sound, the cry came from somewhere at the back right corner of the cinema. The whole cinema audience, and I mean the ENTIRE room full of people, turned around to where the sound came from! lol roflmao lol
Also, a few people turned around when the Balrog's footsteps thudded down the centre aisle!

At midnight tonight, GMT, my video will be here in exactly 9 days, maybe I'll start a countdown on my calender ...

I've got my surround system all set up at home ... I can't wait to pop FOTR in the DVD player and relive the sounds the way they are supposed to be.

Actually, I'm gonna do a trial run today. I bought "Saving Private Ryan" last night and I play to watch it this afternoon. I remember watching it in the cinema and hearing the bullets buzz over my head. WOW!

A! Elbereth

Sounds like you guys all have better theartres than me.... OUr town built 2 more brand new theartres that put the others out of business :o They are really nice but yours sound better with the surround sound. Or maybe I just go to movies too much so I'm used to it?

Not fair.... mecry I want a Frodo Pin!

This sucks I dont have anything - no posters - no pictures (besides ones i printed) - no PINS... all i have is the books. My LOTR soundtrack wasnt bought, I downloaded each song and put it on a blank CD, so i dont really own the soundtrack mecry

I really need to go LOTR shopping on the 6th!

Nessa
August 1st,2002, 03:33 AM
Do you have action figures by any chance? lol My Frodo sits on my dresser, Sting ever ready. Thats not pathetic, is it?

You want a pin? Go to your nearest Blockbuster and beg the most understanding looking employee (or the one with the Frodo pin if you don't mind odd looks) for theirs. They might give it to you after the movie comes out.....

I was just thinking about a part or two I'm going to be fast-forwarding for maximum movie enjoyment.... I didn't have that leasure in the theater... had to be content with closing my eyes. lol

A! Elbereth
August 1st,2002, 04:05 AM
I dont have any figures either... I am an incredibaly obsessed fan who only has only the books to satisfy her mecry gets quite lonely without posters and action figures to look at

What would you want to fast-forward!?!? Everything about FOTR is GREAT

The damn gift pack in november is going to be $69.99!!! I want it sooo much, but the only way i can get it is if i get it for christmas, and then i would have to wait another 1.5 months! So i decided just to get the dvd. mecry mecry mecry This sux! verymad

Hooray...Tuesday's the day! :hooray: :hooray: :hooray: Ok. I was reading a review of the DVD and take a peek at this...The Last Alliance in the opening of the film is the first time where Howard Shore's score really explodes to all of the channels, and you better hold on to something when Sauron is defeated, as the resulting shockwave through your sub will send your pets running for cover. :elfeek: WOW! I loved that sound effect in the theatres...but won't it be cool to have it in our houses!? YAY! YAY! YAY! here's (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/366/366162p1.html) the review I got that from. I just got back from a rather wild weekend away from home, so I missed the worst stages of waiting.....

Bless my father, he's promised to take me to Blockbuster at midnight.....

Unfortunately it doesn't matter how late they're open, because they don't begin to sell them until 10 Am when they open. :(

But Black Rider, dear, they're not selling them until they open tomorrow. Hence the sigh. ;)

Unless......! The particular lady at the particular Blockbuster I called was miffed and eager to spoil a poor geek's night so she came up with the diabolical scheme to prevent me from having The One Film until ten in the morning or later......

....or not. lol

All I can say is, that they BETTER stock them up right when i get there, or I'll my mom might tell me to wait until tomorrow :( mecry

ohh but one must not go insulting Blockbuster, which has the whole "guaranteed in stock" thing going on. i wonder how long it will take before they give FOTR that status?

I just went to WalMart and there were at least a dozen people waiting for it to come out. They brought them out and they nearly fought over it, even though therewas plenty for everyone hehe.... Apparently, we get a free poster if we buy it between 12:01 - 6:00 am! They didnt have them so now they are going to call us when they come in!

Bye gonna watch it NOW! until 5:00 am most likely hehehe

I actually need to get round to that. I reckon there will be LOADS of people doing that cos they were disappointed with the lack of extras in this release...i was anyway... I mean...what we had was satisfactory...but not thrilling.

Best extra is orlando bunjee jumping! :loveyou: lol

Didn't u find that all the clips and lines got used...like...ten times each? When Ian is going on about how 'Hobbiton was in three dimentions...and he believed' for the eigth time...i just wanted to throw something at him! The same with Cate Blanchett saying how she has never felt so much passion before in any film she has worked on...aaaarrrggghhh! :flamer: :batty:
