Okay, what movies have you seen with the lotr cast members and what do you think of them?
I'll start with Elijah Wood(no reason...). I've seen nearly all of his, coincidentally, of course. The only really good ones are The War and The Ice Storm, the well known ones are The Faculty and Deep Impact, and there is The Good Son, Forever Young, Black and White, Radio Flyer, Oliver Twist, Huck Finn, etc.
I've seen Sean Astin in Rudy and Goonies, and he's darling. ;)

Orlando Bloom briefly portrayed a soldier in "Black Hawk Down."
I don't know the names of some of their films, but Sean Bean and Viggo Mortensen have been in alot of movies.
If you haven't already seen "Gods and Monsters," you should. Ian McKellan gives a wonderful performance.

well....as far as Viggo goes, all i can say is.....dont hold "Psycho" against him....he really is a good actor!!!
but i think i'll concentrate on the British cast, since i know more about their work.....
Yeah, Ian McKellen was great in "Gods and Monsters"...and also good in "X-Men"....now theres a range for you, as well as his Shakespearean work.....
Dear old Chris Lee has been in so many things over the years...anyone who loves old Hammer Horrors knows that....but i think one of his best performances was in "The Wicker Man"...an excellent atmospheric horror
Anyone from the UK would probably have seen Dom Monaghans TV work....he was in "Hetty Wainthrop" with Patricia Routledge
And Sean Bean is well known to UK audiences....mainly for "Sharpe"...a TV series set in the Napleonic wars....and for his appearance on "The Vicar of Dibley" with Dawn French lol lol taking the mickey out of his "sex symbol" image
course Hugo Weaving is best known for his role in "The Matrix", but hes been in heaps of Aussie productions, most notably...the unforgettable "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert".....hes surprisingly cute in a dress:elfeek:
and of course young master Bloom has been in "Midsomer Murders" and "BHD"
and Cate Blanchett...who has appeared in so many things...from "Elizabeth", playing the Virgin Queen, to "The Gift" playing a psychic single mother, living in the southern states of America....excellent actress

Sean Astin was in Memphis Belle, a true story war film about the crew of a plane calle The Memphis Belle who need to go on one more mission to complete their service and get to go home. Sean's called Rascal in the film...class! lol :wiggle: :dragon:

Viggo is in about a thousand movies, I'm sure I've seen a few a them at some point. :)
I've only seen Sean Bean in Don't Say A Word. He was creepy and diabolical, and also sexy.
I've seen McKellen in Gods and Monsters (brilliant!), X-Men, and a Shakespearean movie in English class, its the one where he's a nazi, this is embarrasing but I don't remember the name of the play!
I'm sure I've seen Monighan on some British channel that my satelite picks up very late at night...
Liv in Armegeddon, Cate Blanchett in a great number of films, EliZabeth, Bandits, The Talented Mr. Ripley (one of my all time favorates).
I saw Bloom in Black Hawk Down, and I'm sure he was somewhere in Wilde....
I don't suppose Billy Boyd's in any movies, is he?
Pil
July 16th,2002, 07:48 PM
dunno bout billy...but ORLI was definitely in wilde. he has one line "are you looking for someone?" then he walks away blowing out the smoke from his cigar/cigarette (i forget). :)
V. sexy in old style hat :naughty: :p

Elijah Wood was in a ton of movies:
Flipper, Forever Young, Huck Fin, Back to the Future 2, The Good Son, and North. Recently he played in The Fauculty, The Ice Storm, Deep Impact and Chain of Fools.
As you can see he has been in movies sincehe was very young.
And he was good in everything.
Nessa
July 30th,2002, 12:24 AM
damn right! ;)
Not all of his movies have been great, but he has a great portrayal in nearly all of them.
I've never heard of the last two Bloom films you've mentioned....

Elijah has been in 24 movies, not counting the 2 upcoming LOTR movies and Try Seventeen and Thumbsucker (whatever that is) hahah I know my stuff hehe lol :loveyou:
my favorite movie of his when he is a kid is Radio Flyer. He was only 9 years old and he did a fabulous job in it.... hehe
Black Rider
July 30th,2002, 02:21 AM
i loooove Christopher Lee in the classic James Bond flic The Man With the Golden Gun. he is so cool
Also there was John Rhyes Davies in The Living Daylights and Sean Bean in Goldeneye
Bond, James Bond
Nessa
July 30th,2002, 02:49 AM
John Ryes-Davies was in the Indiana Jones films!
Sean Bean was 006 in that Bond film, wasn't he?
Regarding 'Thumbsucker': Elijah plays a fourteen year-old named Justin Cobb who sucks his thumb (pretty good book). Tilda Swinton plays his mom. He's also being considered for a part in Azazel (thats the Russian title, anyhow), the lead role being a sort of detective type named something Fandorin....... Have you heard about his upcoming mob movie Ash Wednesday with Edward Burns and Rosario Dawson? *takes deep breath*
Anyway....
I've never seen Radio Flyer, but he's terribly good in 'The Good Son' and I don't think he was much older, have you seen it Elbereth?

There is a filmography for each LoTR character....Christopher Lee has been in over 200 movies (I know, I put the lists together)...feel free to take a gander at them....you may be surprised at some of the roles these people have played....I know I was....I'm trying to see anything and everything Viggo was in....okay, my secret's out....Elijah and Orlando get most of the play around here, but give me that bad-boy-I-will-be-king Ranger babe ANY DAY!!!
Nessa
July 30th,2002, 05:14 AM
Lady Arien! I thought there must be an Aragorn swooner wandering around here somewhere, but I never expected you. ;)
Lucky for you, Viggo's in a lot of movies, The Hunt for Red October, 28 Days, Psycho, A Perfect Murder, the best one I've seen is A Walk On the Moon.....lovely film.

July 30th,2002, 05:23 AM
It takes a special person to appreciate the strong, silent, undertstated type.....just like my beloved Illu! (Okay, enough with the mush)....I loved his character in 28 Days...there wasn't enough of him in Crimson Tide, IMHO, but I've got quite a list to get through!

*ahem* hello, I'm Elijah's obsessive fan.. of course I've heard about Ash Wednesday lol ;) Omg Elijah playing someone as old as me? I guess it would work. But I CANT see him as a detective :o
Miruvor
July 30th,2002, 06:46 AM
Even before LOTR, I noticed Viggo in A walk on the Moon. He was so sweet and romantic, yum. :loveyou: :cuddles:
I thought it was also sweet to see Elijah and Lee Lee Sobiski as boyfriend and girlfriend in Deep Impact. But he was REALLY a very talented child actor in all his earlier movies.
(That Nazi Shakespeare movie was Richard III, and Ian was really diabolical in there.)
Gods and Monsters is one of my all time favorites.
  :dragon:
I am a big fan of Christopher Lee because of his Sherlock Holmes roles. I have him on tape as Henry Baskerville, and as Mycroft Holmes in 'The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes' and I did have him as Sherlock in 'Sherlock Holmes and the Leading Lady' with Morgan Fairchild, but one of my Sherlockian aquaintances borrowed it and I never saw it again. verymad
(He was also in 'Airport 77'.)

Richard lll, that was it!
Elbereth, I won't take your obssesive fan status away. ;) Maybe I shouldn't say detective.... theres got to be a better word... after all, its only a rumor and the book that the movie is supposedly based on isn't even translated out of Russian yet. Have you ever seen Chain of Fools? It isn't released here (and may not ever be) but it could probably be searched for on the internet....thats how I got hold of The Bumblebee Flies Anyway

Don't forget Chris Lee was in another trilogy movie that came out this year... and he played a traitor in that one too!
What about Ian Holm? He is great in all of his Shakespearean performances. I saw him in King Lear and he kicked a**!!
I have seen Viggo in a lot of things, I liked him but in most he looks so different from sexy Aragorn(not that he isn't sexy, he just is a different sexy than Aragorn). Orlando I have only seen in Black Hawk Down and I almost died when he was in the same scene with my fave actor Ewan McGregor! They both were playing AMericans, it was great! Elijah was a great xchild actor and I always felt bad 'cause he did much more films than McChauly (sp?) Culkin, but Culkin got much more attention. Elijah was much better!! I loved him in the Faculty! John Rhys-Davis was also in the tv show Sliders, which I liked. I love Cate Blanchett in just about everything she does
Oh, and Ian Mckellan is awesome as Magneto!

I have seen most of Viggo's movies, particularly liked A Walk on the Moon.
Sean Bean has been a favourite for quite some time, I have the first 5 videos of the Sharpe series.
Ian McKellen was very good in Gods and Monsters.
I have seen a few of Elijah's movies (love Chain of Fools) and I thought Liv was good in Armageddon.
I can't wait to see a lot more of Billy Boyd in the future.;)

Miranda Otto was the ONLY redeeming factor in Thin Red Line. i slept through most of the rest of that movie. But it was her role in that movie that got my interest when it was announced she would be Éowyn in the LOTR movies!

I suppose everyone is avoiding mentioning Bernard Hill in Titanic?
Ian Holm was heart-rending in Greystoke - The Legend of Tarzan.
But guess what - Roper and Ebert were reviewing the Matrix last week and recommended watching an older movie which was very similar to the Matrix and almost as good, called 'Equilibrium'. Well I looked it up, and guess who else is in it? Sean Bean. I really have to go and rent it now. :elfeek:

Viggo was awesome as the lover and the villain in Deception.
My favorite Lij movie is The Bumblebee Flies Away because of the friendships formed between the boys and the lesson they teach the doctor. Then I also love Huck Finn because of the cheerful expressions, loud exclamations, and floundering about that Lij gets to do in the acting - looks like he's having just too much fun!

Isn't that a great trailer for the Hidalgo movie! It looks like it should be quite a spectacle. I've seen the trailer now each of the three times I've seen Pirates of the Carribean.
Isn't Elijah working lately? I haven't heard of any movies coming out with him in them.
I hope Hidalgo and Pirates don't give ROTK any oscar competition - that would be freaky - though I wish they would - but I don't - but I do - oh no, what a crisis. They say Seabiscuit is the first Oscar Contender this year, but I see some potential in Pirates, too (what an optimist I am).

Since Lotr Elijah has done Ash Wednesday and Try Seventeen, the first is out on video but I haven't heard a thing about the second... He's also set to be in Kaufman's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. So I guess he's just not been to high profile lately.

I heard Try Seventeen has had a title change and is currently not to be released in the US. He also did Chain of Fools which Is only released in like China and Sweden. It can be purchased off a Chinese Internet site and I found if pretty funny - a good performance by Lij. He actually looks good with a gun and has a hysterical last line to his part.

Viggo's first movie role was as an Amish extra in Witness with 2 lines (and one in german!! lol), I think his name is supposedly Moses Huchenfoltler or something equally silly lol...it's really quite a good movie (young harrison ford.. ), and playing "Spot Viggo" is really enjoyable while watching it! ;) ...and in it he's SO YOUNG!! :elfeek: 26 years old!!!! :loveyou: Not the rugged aragorn yet, but quite cute none the less! ;)

I just took the kids to see Spy Kids 3-D yesterday and guess who makes a cameo appearance . . . Elijah!! I was totally surprised, because I hadn't heard anything about it. He is the "real" one guy in the video game and his lines really reminded me of LotR. So it was cool to see him. But, since it was a cameo appearance. He dies right after his one line. It's was sort of funny. I loved him in The Good Son and Radio Flyer. What a cutie!! :frodo:
Oh and remember Ian Holm in Time Bandits. He played a really funny Napolean. I love that movie. :)
I've seen Viggo in a lot of the movies listed. I've always had a thing for him, so I am partial to his roles and think he looks good in all of them.
I loved watching Karl Urban in The Price of Milk. Very quirky weird story about love. Oh and Ghost Ship which I watched only to see him. I want to see more of his movies. He is such a hottie! :flamer:  :loveyou:
And, of course, I like Sir Ian McKellen in the X-Men movies. I need to see Gods and Monsters and there are so many more movies that he has been in that I have yet to see.
I remember Christopher Lee in the Witch Mountain movie, Star Wars and also in Sleepy Hollow. I'm sure I've seen one of those old school dracula movies that he's been in but I can't remember the exact one. He's been in a ton of movies. I just checked out his filmography and he was in Gremlins 2 and Police Academy 7. How funny is that, I can't even remember him in them, but then again I really can't remember the movies too well either.
I haven't had the fortune of getting to watch UK television and movies, so I've missed out on a lot of the stuff Sean Bean and Dom stuff as well as Sir Ian McKellen. And, I'm looking forward to Billy Boyd's new project, Master & Commander.
Well, I'm really rambling now. I'd love to see all the movies of all the actors, but we'll see how that goes.

Yeah, but is Spy Kids worth going to see, for other than Elijah? Most of the critics panned it.
Christopher Lee was also in Airport 77 - I'll bet you've seen that one too.
Gods and Monsters is one of Ian McKellan's best!

Miruvor,
You're right I have seen Airport 77, but can't remember it. I'll have to go and add Gods and Monsters to my Netflix queue. And, I don't think Spy Kids 3 is worth seeing just for Elijah if you haven't seen the other 2 and if you aren't younger than, let's say 13. For me, I had to take the kids and I've seen the first 2, so I have some vested interest in it. I also liked it just because I know the characters and because my kids love it. Anyway Elijah was a bonus for me, that's for sure.

Sean Bean played a smoldering Count Vronsky in a version of Anna Karenina. It was in Patriot Games that Harrison Ford accidently gave Sean that scar over his eye, hit him with the anchor in the last scene... didn't miss the way he should have... Poor Sean!
Elijah's FIRST role was a quick cameo in Back to the Future II, the kid playing the video game in the retro diner.
Try Seventeen is now All I Want & what a strange film it is...
At our house we play 6 degrees of seperation from BRUCE WILLIS, after noting that several of the cast worked with him. Maybe we should have a thread for that.... Hmmmmm

Ooo, I just lucked out and recorded a half hour Cinenews program that had a nice long profile of John Rys Davies and many clips of his previous movies, plus LOTS of the ROTK trailer in the background and some long TTT clips.
The same program had a long piece about Veronica Guerrin (one of my favorite movies this year - you should all really see it.) and that one stars Cate Blanchet. She was excellent in it. (If you are a history buff, you will like this movie.)
