I just got my Hadhafang and Uruk-Hai Scimitar!
w00t w00t!

I feel like I have been waiting forever for Hadhafang!

My initial impressions:

Arwen's sword is the pride of my LOTR collection! The blade is study and quite hefty - it feels like the wielder could do much damage to Orc foes. I am very happy with the overall production of the sword. The point of balance is 7" out from the hilt. The weight of the blade is increased by the first seven inches of the blade which has a vine pattern and is is thicker than the rest of the blade. This sword would be very easy to swing with two hands. I am very impressed by the solid feel and construction of this sword! It does not look nor feel like it is a "feminized" or "girly" sword. The pommel is made of hard wood similiar to that of Sting and the pattern is silk-screened on. The end cap is brass and it is very attractive. The Tengwar inscription is very impressive. It really adds to the depth of history that was constructed for this blade. The blade is one-sided and has metal protrusions to act as a hilt. I was suprised by the small box that Hadhafang came in, considering the size of the Uruk-Hai box. The display is small, but sturdy. The pattern is a nice leaf motif reminicent of Rivendell.

As others have pointed out, there are some ~very~ minor flaws in this sword. But, such is the nature of mass production. In some places, the gold paint does "go out-side" the lines. But, I think this was an attempt to add some shadowing and thus depth to the design on the blade. The glue that joins the pommel to the end cap is slightly visable, but only if you are looking for it. Considering that I paid $160.00 for this sword, I don't have a problem overlooking these flaws. Now, if I had paid $1600.00 for a custom made sword or a genuine katana, then I would have a right to complain about any noticable flaws.

As it is, the only real grip that I have is that everytime I remove the sword from its display the wood leaves some black marks on the blade. I almost freaked out the first time that happened! But, I realised that the marks wiped away easily. If anyone has any suggestions about how to stop this from happening please let me know.

Overall, I would rate this sword as the best so far from UC in their LOTR collection. I highly look forward to adding the Elven Warrior Sword and Aragorn's Elvish Hunting Knife to my display with Hadhafang!

On to the Uruk-hai Scimitar.

My first impression upon seeing this blade was: Wow, that's incredibly ugly! But, after seeing close-up photos of the acid etching, I decided to buy it. Although, it is a one-handed sword, it can be wielded with two hands. This scimitar is really more of a machete. The sword is essentially a long, flat piece of metal that is wrapped in crude leather. It has a very primative feel to it. The sword is ~very~ blade heavy. The point of balance is 10" out from the pommel. This sword is unique in the UC collection because it is made of carbon steel. My sword shows its aging in the rust on the end of the blade. Although, this sword is "false-edged" make no mistake, the armour piercing point on this sword is sharp, as is the point near the finger indentation on top of the grip. I like the simplicity of the pommel. It is essentially the full tang of the sword with two pieces of wood on either side and wrapped with a stripe of leather. Crude, yet functional.

Overall, I think this sword is a great bargin for its price.
