Even though The Two Towers was certainly not completely faithful to book, I don't see how it could have not gotten at the very least the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay. How can you visualize and script a book of such gigantic and magnificent proportions and not get that award? I'll be the first to admit that the Oscars almost always get it wrong, so maybe the point is moot, but what do ya'll think?
Also, to me, waiting to give the Oscar to the ROTK film exclusively, in an attempt at recognizing all three films, just doesn't cut it. The Two Towers was the best Adapted Screenplay in 2002, so it should get that award for that year. <Sigh>
Maybe I'm preaching to the choir here, but oh well, just thought I'd throw that out there.
P.S. - I don't remember, but I don't think FOTR got Adapted Screenplay either and, if so, that is another travesty IMHO.

it seems like the Academy likes to jip LOTR both years... i don't know why TTT didn't get Best Pic for I cannot imagine how Chicago would be better....(ok fine i haven't watched it yet, but c'mon! TTT has EVERYTHING! =) but ROTK better sweep the awards next year or i'm really gonna do something DRASTIC ...
:verymad:
but yeah TTT should've won more than it did.... FOTR def should have gotten Best Pic... i think the Academy works with biases and there are lots of politics that go on as well :mmmm:

I'm pretty sure ROTK will do better. Unless the matrix sequels end up amazing, ;) Hope LOTR does well though.

Re: the Academy Awards
I keep hearing that the Academy is waiting for RotK to come out and they will reward PJ for all of his hard work and dedication. But I'm sure that when Oscar time rolls around, they will have other, more "deserving" movies/directors, etc. that fit their narrow criteria for what they consider the best. I must admit that I am rather bitter about the whole prospect of next year's awards. We shall see.:mmmm:

I personally think both movies should have won everything. What gets me about the Academy is how they say Howard Shore can't be nominated for TTT or ROTK, because they consider what he did in FOTR part of one "work". If that's true, then how come TT can be nominated again at all? I mean if you follow the Academy's logic, TT shouldn't have been nominated. I just don't understand how it can win best visual effects two years straight, but the costume, screenplay, and score, can't because they are the "same". Come on now, which is it?! Make up your mind! I'm still a bit doubtful that they will give ROTK the recognition it deserves, but we'll see I guess....
I've come to the conclusion that although awards would be nice, what really matters is what lasts, and while many movies may win awards, and have their brief moment in the sun, they will not be remebered, but LOTR will still be around and loved years after all those who made it are gone.

It's because it's FANTASY!! verymad oooh! that it what makes me mad. LOTR should have win more both years, but I was not really happy on the awards that FOTR got last year. They should have won more.

I agree. But I was more surprised that "a beautiful mind" won last year then "Chicago" this time. I mean last year no-one doubted FotR would win best picture. This year lotsa people allready thought that Chicago would steal it away. Hope RotK saves the honor of Middle Earth and gets lotsa oscars next time

After last year debacle I have lost all faith in the academy!
Next year? Well I wouldnt hold your breath. They are all a load of tossers! Sorry but they are.
Fellowship of the Rings was totally ROBBED last year. After that I dont doubt that they will ignore ROTK but....... it just shows how out of touch with the real cinema goer they really are.
If Peter Jackson doesnt get an Oscar next year for his amazing achievement, never before been attempted, then they need to give up the game they really do.
I cant build myself up to it though, gotta expect nowt from em ... THAT way anything that ROTK DOES win will be a bonus! IMO

Not only will the LOTR movies last as a favorite for 25 years to come much as the SW:old trilogy did, the mockup "best pictures" that the academy touted in the past two years along with the competing franchises (matrix II,III, SW prequels) will fade away into dull standard hollywoodized fare.
Hopefully the politics will be favorable for ROTK as the academy knows if they don't honor the movie phenomenon of the turn of the millenium, the academy will be remembered 50 yrs from now as exactly doing so.

I agree Celeb! although awards are great things to win, it matters more that it effected lots of people ...i mean LOTR definitely wins a lot of people's choices awards, and the Academy may mean something, but what matters is that it has touched thousands of people and has made people pick up Tolkien's classic... who can forget Lothlorien? or the great scenes and moments of all the movies? no one can ever forget them, movie or not... so yes, LOTR will definitely will be an unforgettable classic that will remain in our hearts forever =)
(although, ROTK should win!!! what else is good this year???)

I agree with you, Andruil, but it is still very early in the year, and many movies are yet to come out....remember the two movies that beat out FotR and TT? ABM came out in January, and Chicago in December/January (I suddenly can't remeber when it came out) and until these two came out there wasn't a movie that had a chance of beating LotR...anyway...my point being that the movies that kept LotR from winning the past two years have come out at the last minute. I can't imagine another movie that would be more worthy of an Oscar for best pic than RotK, but you never know what will be put out just under the wire for Oscar consideration....
I'm still hopeful, though...from all that is being said about it (RotK) from people who have seen it (i.e. Howard Shore and cast members) that it might win the Oscar, but again...in the big picture....LotR has had (and I believe will always) have an infinitely larger imapact on history than any movie that wins tons of awards ever will. ;)
