I'm not sure if this will work, but here goes:grin: :
I list two ME characters. Members say which one would win a battle between the two (and why), and, at the end of the week, I'll tally the votes, announce the winner, and post another pair of characters. I may leave it for aother week, depending on how many people reply. You can PM me if you can think of a good combination - but don't make it too unfair!
Who would win in a battle between:
DURIN'S BANE and SHELOB

lol Ok Saruman, I'll try.
Durin's Bane would surely beat Shelob.
Why: A Balrog is a spirit of fire, which was once a Maia. They were corrupted by Morgoth and turned evil. Shelob is the last descendent of Ungoliant, a very dark and powerful spider-like being in the 1st age.
From the way Tolkien wrote it, Shelob seems to be much less powerful than her ancester Ungoliant. It was even stabbed and wounded by Sam. What a shame... lol
However, the Balrog of Moria must be one of the most powerful because in the Silmarillion there are some passages where it says that a Balrog and an Elf fought and killed each other. When Gandalf confronted the Balrog of Moria he said that no weapons of the others could be used against it. Now that Balrog must have been really great.
So, that's my argument. I hope it's reasonable enough. :)

It doesn't need to be that detailled, though. Just a sentence or two.

Gollum would win. Grima can only swim and stab. *grin* But Gollum can climb walls, choke, swim, run, look pitiful. (And that last one is VERY powerful.)

Gollum for sure, Wormtongue is a chicken at heart, he would run away before he would fight. And Gollum would play dirty, it's just his nature!

Really? How funny, cuz I just came up with that one out of the blue. Was trying to think of a name a little more appropriate for this site than what I usually go by, and came up with that!
