Recently I went on holiday to Wales and visited a place where they were making nameplates (OK probably not correct term but I can't think of a better) for houses - you know with name or house number on them.
I saw a really cool picture of the one for a house called Rivendell with a celtic knot designed by the guy who commissioned it. Anyone here responsible or know who it was - I thought it was great.
Incidentally - anyone else got a Tolkien inspired house name?

They don't live in Wales do they?
I wish my house was called something interesting (ie Tolkien inspired)
Very cool house name though, Lothlorien:thumbs:
Anyone else?

There used to be a bungalow down the road from where I grew up (Bingham in Nottinghamshire) called Rivendell, there also used to be a florists in Nottingham called 'Galadriel's Garden' - they're the only two i know of. (I have to confess i never imagined Rivendell as a three bed bungalow - but there you have it;))

My house doesn't have a name. :( Maybe I should give it one. It's such an average house that I wouldn't want to call it anything grand like Rivendell or Lothlorien. Any ideas?

How about just 'House', in big red letters.

Friends of mine have a house called 'Rivendell'... I really wanted to call our cottage 'Bag End' but I was over-ruled! :(:p:(

We live about 50 miles outside of Chicago in a town called Big Rock, and there's a farm nearby called Rivendell.
I'd like to put a sign or something on our garden fence with a 'Hobbity' sort of name, like Gamgee Garden. Any suggestions?

This is a great new thread, by the way....Thanks for opening it up! Have you noticed that the names of Rivendell and Lothlorien are used over and over? I like the creativity of Gamwise Garden, for instance! Very clever and unqiue!
I think we are all in love with Middle Earth...lol There are many names to choose from in the books...my favorite, of course, is The Great Green Realm of Mirkwood!

Plain old "Mirkwood" is a great name. Gamwise Garden is an excellent suggestion, Rune of Mirkwood, thank you!

Can't take the credit for either name....
Tolkien created these fabulous places, names, and characters, and the Gamwise Garden name was a response/reply to
Rumil's post above...
but thank you, for your kind words...Mirkwood is by no means "plain", but yes...very old. I should know...I reside there on the Forest Floor lol

Hmmm....Interesting thread!!! me likes, tho!!! lol you guys are creative!!!! Las, what about naming it something in Sindarian or Quenya that means house? just a thought. I prolly could name my house Mirkwood, or Lothlorien, cause they're both forests...I live out in the sticks of Tennessee...in a town not even most Tennesseeans have heard of (ask Narisunell) ;) and our yard is HUUUGE, then we have a small forest on either side of the house....Heck, I could name my house "Fangorn House"!!!! lol Or maybe something in Entish that means "Entwives home." ;) lol jk!!!

My friend(who is up in his 60s) lives in a Riverdale(close to rivendell) and his name is Mr. Underhill....hehehe, i've always thought that interesting and bit cool.
As a child and the only girl in my family, my brothers used to take me out in the woods and it was also really hilly but there was a valley that had a large hill that was flat on top quite like weathertop. And we used to play that we were the Fellowship traveling. Quite fun because we have about 3 miles of the middle of nowhere we could play for hours upon hours of LOTR...i just now understand why i'm in love with LOTR.
So we named a hill...not a house...but close enough!
