I'll agree that the DVD version looks great. However I'm a little dissapointed though because of a missunderstanding about the release date (a friend mentioned the end of June, but it is really the end of August). There is some good info about what will be on the DVD version at www.lordoftherings.net (the movie website). Only four months until it comes out -- it will be hard to wait.

August! Flippin' *august*?! :o

What is this, some kind of innovative new torture or something? Man, its going to be a long wait!

Does anyone know if New Line will sell TTT Extended DVD Collector's Edition? I'm holding out for it if they do. If not, I'd like to pre-order the regular 6 disc extended DVD set.
I bought the FOTR Collector's Edition and I love it. It was worth the $.

Anoron
June 9th,2003, 05:37 AM
The info I got from the official LOR website (www.lordoftherings.net) reports that it will be coming out on November 18th. The specifics are at this link: http://www.lordoftherings.net/homevideo/frame_special_dvd.html

I still can't decide if I will get it or not. November is a long time... maybe I'll get both. :naughty:

Halfling
June 9th,2003, 05:59 AM
Thanks Anoron:grin: I read about that Special Edition release
but they didn't offer a pre-order for it.mecry

They didn't mention if there was going to be a Collector's DVD gift set for TTT. That's the one I want. :hooray:
The difference is in last year's FOTR collector's set, besides the extended movie, you got 2 Argonath statue bookends, 3 trading cards, The National Geographic DVD special feature, a mini magazine of the Fan Club, and a free movie pass to watch the next movie (TTT).

If anyone hears of a Collector's Extended TTT, please let me know. I am patiently waiting even though it's rough to do.:boohoo:

http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2003-06-11-rings_x.htm

This article delights, and at the same time, frightens me. It's about the Ext (found the link on the front page) and lists some new scenes. The first ones sound delightful, but last two mentioned things are extremely....unnerving:

"Jackson injects much fun with food and beverage. Eowyn, not especially deft in the kitchen, serves Aragorn a vile-looking bowl of homemade stew, which he politely chokes down. Boromir and Faramir share a couple of victory brews, and one declares in beer-ad fashion, "Today, life is good.""

Eowyn cooking? When? HD? Meduseld? Cooking at all??? I don't know why it disturbs me....maybe because it's been done before in countless other movies? I wonder if PJ has finally lost it for good.

But it also seems Ary shows his love for a horse...not Arwen, either. *snicker* lol sorry! Couldn't resist.

Anyway...I can't wait for more Treebeard!!!

Celebrķan
June 14th,2003, 04:05 AM
Oh so that's it...hmmm...that does sound like an old device: the woman serves the man stew, which is not so hot, but being polite, he forces it down anyway....yeah....I agree, LA...it does sound a bit like an "old trick" (that wasn't in the book was it? I'm nearly positive it wasn't, but I won't object to it if it was in the book). ;)

Lady Ashley
June 14th,2003, 06:30 AM
It was NOT in the book...along with at least a third of the movie. *snort* it's certainly an "old trick".

That's what PJ has done. The line "if you want him, come and claim him" is really "if you want him, come and get him". Purely modern. And Sam's "I think I'm getting the hang if this". "Hang" is a modern word, as far as I know. *shakes head*

Anyway, it's been DONE before. LOTR ought to be different...it is, but someone needs to keep these modern things out. Only one time did I ever read modern-ish language. "in the nick of time:" used by Elrond, but I suspect that phrase is older than Tolkien.

*looks around and gets off her soap box* lol

Celebrķan
June 15th,2003, 12:42 AM
lol Lady Ashley....you make very good points....(I agree). The more PJ strays from the story, the more the movie loses its *trying to think of a word for it* uniqueness, quality, etc...I think you get my drift....Anyway....looking on the bright side of things, at least he didn't put that in the theatrical version....

Does anyone know if there has been any recent mention of Arwen showing up at HD (in the EE) *shudders* I hope not!

I am so excited, I can hardly stand it. I am going through TTT withdrawal. haven't seen it in about a month. It's like I'm starving myself before a really big feast. I hope I don't starve to death (well, maybe that's a little dramatic, but its LotR).

A month?! Try January...that's the last time I saw it...since then I've had to live off the soundtrack and the screencaps so graciously provided by Illu. ;) I don't know how I would have made it with out those...

I'm trying not to think about the extended edition lol thats just too far away. i'm keeping my mind on seeing the rotk preview on the two disc.

Anunil
July 30th,2003, 02:01 AM
Yea, I totally can't wait for the ROTK preview either! I think it was totally mean for New Line to put out the Aragorn teaser poster way before the trailer! I mean, everytime I go to the movies, I have to go visit the ROTK poster. I guess it is some kind of sick ritual of mine. I'm actually suprised I haven't named it by know....

Striderfan
July 30th,2003, 03:00 AM
We're in the same boat Anunil lol, everytime I go to the movies I have to go have a chat with Aragorn ;)...and then I remember that I won't get to see him again until DECEMBER!!! mecry But then again there's the TTT extended in Nov....and there's supposedly some juicy Viggo scenes in that...
Anybody know if Viggo's gonna be in the cast commentary on TTT extended, b/c he isn't in Fotr Extended... I hope so...:(

July 30th,2003, 04:00 PM
So which is coming first - the trailer on the 2 disk CD in August, or the movie trailer attached to 2nd Hand Lions. I can't remember when that is supposed to play, but I want to be the frist to see it.
And will the 2 Disk CD have both a movie ROTK trailer AND a preview for the extended TTT? I'm confused.

Celebrķan
July 30th,2003, 08:30 PM
So there will be an RotK trailer attatched to "Second Hand Lions"? I saw the trailer for that movie the other week...and it's a New Line release, so that would make sense....

As to your other questions...I'm not entirely sure...

Lasgalen
July 31st,2003, 07:29 AM
The DVD will be released before Second Hand Lions. That movie is scheduled to come out some time in Sept.

Kalimac
August 2nd,2003, 03:13 PM
This is from a Coming Soon report from a writer who saw the DVD while visiting the set:

First off:

I heard how some of you got ahold of the leaked preview of ROTK, that preview is only the tail end of the preview that is on TTT dvd due out this month. I have seen it.

Second:

I read some of the threads, I see some of you are saying NEW LINE sux, SCREW NEW LINE... Lets's all calm down, NEW LINE is just doing their job, you shouldn't have been suprised that they requested the links be shut down. Also, just be patient, in a matter of weeks you will have the full 12 minute preview of ROTK when you get you TT dvd. I understand your frustration, especially since there won't be a public teaser trailer released. Again, just be patient. I know I sound like a broken record when I say that word, but it is the thing that will get all of us through these months and into December also remember that September is right around the corner, I know you guys can make it. So let's keep the NEW LINE bashing to a minimum.

Are we agreed? Can I get a virtual handshake?

Third: There has been speculation about the trailer on whose hand is in the opening scene, it is Deagol's. That is part of the Smeagol and Deagol flashback and Deagol is the first one to find the ring then Smeagol kills him and takes it.

Now the report, I'll give you report on the EE of TTT first then info on ROTK including my experience on set of the pick-ups going on and a look at a completed scene I got to view. Then info. on the trailer.

The day was Tuesday and it started with getting up around 9am and going for some breakfast with my "friends" at a little cafe called "Fidel's." If you stay in Wellington, I highly reccomend Fidel's for your eating needs. Got out of there around 10:30am, drove to the screening where we sat down in a little screening room with about 30 seats and then it was show time.

Extended opening with Sam and Frodo: After Frodo wakes from his nightmare of Moria, the scene cuts to the hobbits carefully making their way down a cliff as the two towers title appears on the screen contrast to the theatrical version where the scene cuts to the hobbits making their way up a mountain and title pops up on screen. There is a better teaser leading up to Gollum, the audience really gets full of effect of the hobbits being followed, I believe there was a scene where we see Gollum's point of view watching them as rome around emyn muil.

The Urukhai: You see the rivalry between Mordor's orcs and Sauruman's urukhai. One orc asks Grishnak why "the master wants the halflings..." The reply is "they have some elvish weapon, the master wants it for his war..." It all still leads to the food fight.

Sauruman in the cabins of Isengard is extended a little, he just walks around more.

Great new added scene here: The fight at ford isens where Eomer comes upon the body of a wounded Theodred who was ambushed by orcs. Karl Urban rules! Nuf said.

Treebeard: New scene added with Treebeards home and the hobbits rest and then drink the ent draught where they realized they have grown in the next scene. The look on their faces is kind of deja vu..

Fangorn forest and the return of Gandalf seemed in tack, although when he speaks about what happened in Moria, it looked like some scenes of Gandalf battling the balrog were added. It's been months since I last saw the theatrical version of TTT.

The king of the golden hall: This scene is extended a little, mostly it is more wormtounge, we see the the rohirrium guards leading Grima to the steps as he protests, this scene is contrast to the theatrical version where after Theoden is exorcised the scene cuts directly to the steps of of the Golden hall and Wormtounge is thrown out. We then go to the funeral of Theodred when the beautiful Eowyn (Miranda Otto) sings a lament for her cousin. Very moving scene, Miranda has a beautiful voice.

There is are new scenes in the golden hall, in paticular Eowyn serves Aragorn some stew, the stew doesn't look too tasty, but when you have been living off Lembas for days anything looks good. Also if I remember correctly there was another small scene where Aragorn reveals his real age to Eowyn.

Extended scene in the Edoras stables as the Rohirrum guards along with Aragorn and Eowyn are seeing that the horses are saddled ready to depart to Helms deep. Brego is better introduced as he becomes wild, kicking and screaming. A calm Aragorn says "turn this fellow free... He has see enough war..." That is when Eowyn really begins to fall in love with Aragorn.

More conversations between Gandalf and Aragorn, including the scene we have seen in the previews where Gandalf and Aragorn are talking at nightfall about Sauron and Saurman tightenting the noose... Also talking about how war is upon us.

Some new scenes with Faramir. Faramir role is beefed up. Most notable is the extension of scenes and new scene added to the osgiliath sequence, during the sequence where the Gondorian army and Faramir rangers retake the city of Osgiliath the great new scene of the flaskback of Boromir being sent to Rivendell and the introduction of Denethor. Great new scene, the Denethor's cameo is well done and well placed. I gurantee you that when you guys see and meet denethor, you want jump through the screen and strangle him and tell him to show love to both his sons. Faramir gets no repect, which better explains Faramir hard nosed attitude and why he wants to take the ring to Gondor.

There are extended scenes of Sauruman and Worntounge in orthanc.

Helms Deep seemed longer and I could bet the farm in saying that I saw some new scenes in interlaced with others. Like I said above it has been awhile since I saw the theatrical version, so I can't remember what is new and what is not new.

The storming of Isengard has some new scenes added, what appears to be hurorns leave and appear at helms deep as the urukhai are fleeing the scene and the huorns take on all comers. This was a cool scene..

The ending is not really new, but more extended, it still has the same stuff but there are more scenes that lead up to it, like Merry and Pippin going in the store room, Legolas and Gimli claiming they each won the orc killing contest and of course Faramir showing Frodo, Sam and Gollum to the sewers of Osgiliath where he tells Frodo "Go with the good of all men..." Then Faramir snickered something at Gollum. Sam and Gollum make a semi truce there too.

Well, that's it. Another job well done by PJ and the editors.

I knew the minute I saw the TTT DVD preview of RotK posted on theonering.net that New Line was going to ask for it removed. So I downloaded it as fast as I could. hehe.
I had no idea there was New Line bashing...anyways TTT EE looks great....but didn't this guy mention he saw a completed RotK clip....then said nothing about it...hmmm
