What are your favorite versions of the legend of King Arthur? "The Once and Future King"? The Crystal Cave trilogy? Others?

I enjoy the more light ones by Gerald Morris.

My favorite is the "Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Though it focuses more on Morgaine it is still very good.

I too liked the Mists of Avalon. Haven't really been able to get much into the other readings. But I liked the movie Camelot with Richard Harris.

I read an Anya Seton book once called Avalon, which touched on the legends as an aside. But I like any of her novels - mostly historical novels - because she reserches really well.
Also read some small book about Percival once. Just found out that story was made into the Robin Williams movie The Fisher King.

Was he the one who wrote The Squire's Tale, or a title similar to that?

Yes Tig isn't he the best? I absolutely love his books, have you had the chance to read his new one yet?

Gerald Morris is spectacular. I love his books. And the funny thing is the humor works so well!lol roflmao lol roflmao lol

Mists of Avalon was also very, very wonderful. What am I saying, I have a few chapters to go yet! It's so good, though, it's so worth your time.

The only books I've read of his are The Squire's Tale, and its sequel... so unless you're talking about the sequel, then no I haven't. Is it another book about Gawain and Terence?

Has anyone read the Pendragon Cycle by Stephen Lawhead? I thought he did some interesting things with the tale of Arthur. Arthur himself seems very human and accessible in his stories.

I like A.A. Attanasio's take on the whole Arthurian legend. How he starts off with The Dragon and The Unicorn centering around Ygrane and Uther. His metaphors are great, as is his descriptive imagery.

If you wish to read them the order goes as follows..
The Dragon and the Unicorn
The Eagle and the Sword (didn't like that one much)
The Wolf and the Crown (best out of the series in my opinion)
The Serpent and the Grail

Also, I Am Mordred is another good book. It doesn't neccessarily center around Arthur, as is obvious from the title. But it portrays Mordred in a new way that just has to be recognized. Sorry, don't remember the author of that one.

I looove "Mists of Avalon" and "The Once and Future King"

I think they are the most compelling of the Arthurian Legends...they are different, and that is what I like about them.

I agree with Emrenell I Am Mordred was very good. It gave me a whole view of why he would want to betray Arthur and some of the pressure he was under.

Tig the second one in the series A Squire His Knight and His Lady was about Sir Gawain and Terrance, after that there is not one based on them but they are all really good.

Mary Stewart's ones are very good (inc Wicked Day)
I liked Stephen Lawhead's
Hated Rosalind Miles Guievere stories
You know I've read so many that they all blend together - I'm having an Arthur free period at the moment cause I read so many all at once :P

I have only just got around to reading Mists of Avalon, and it was every bit as good as all of the above had claimed it to be. Thanks for the recomendation.
