I think Clancy has really good ideas and his stories and plots are really well. But soemhow I find them hard to read: i stopped halfway in "hunt for the red october" not becouse I didn;t like the story and I really enjoyed the movies. I think I just don't like his writingstyle. But the stories are great.

I agree with Númenórean... I find Clancy a bit tedious to read. I loved the Jack Ryan movies, so decided to read Patriot Games. Sadly, I didn't get too far. :(

I love the recent Netforce Explorers series. They are very high-tech and fun to read! :)

I find Clancy to be, on the whole, a reliably good read. As it happens, I've tended to prefer his earlier books mostly (Hunt for Red October and Red Storm Rising and Without Remorse being particular faves). I never really got on with the Op-Center books.

Like Crichton, Clancy is great at using contemporary knowledge to put his story across. Clancy books really do feel like they could happen (Debt of Honour sort of springs to mind).

The funny thing is, I don't normally go in for books in this genre, and the only books I have that deal with spies, political intrugue and contemporary warfare are those written by Clancy.

Actually, I side I preferred his earlier stuff, but Bear and the Dragon was pretty nifty (for the same reason I liked Red Storm Rising - exceedingly convincing portrayels of large scale warfare).
