Hobbit Humor...

I've just started reading The Hobbit and one of the lines that really made me laugh was '(Golfimbu's head) sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit-hol, and in this way the battle was won and the game of Gold invented at the same moment'

Yes that line was quite funny. I also like the first conversation between Gandalf and Bilbo. I mean, I read LotR before I read the Hobbit but after you read LotR you know how important and powerful Gnadalf really is and then you read the conversation about the words "Good morning". Well... I acn't explain it but it's just hilarious. lol

That part about knocking the goblin kings head off was funny. Do you think it is a bit much for a children's book?

Some of the songs are funny, too. I especially like the one that goes "15 birds in 5 firtrees". Goblins with a sense of humor. Go figure.

I do think it is more of a children's book. After all, I think he wrote it for his kids. The language is so different from that of LotR and the Sil!
I totally LOVE the part when Gandalf was trying to get the dwarves into Beorn's house and he was telling his story to Beorn and each time Beorn comments that Gandalf can't count or describe numbers (of dwarves) appropriately, in walks a couple of Dwarves. That was hilarious! lollollol

I loved that part too. I also think Smaug is hilarious! He's just so arogant and cocky! I love the part when Bilbo keeps flatering Smaug and then Smaug shows Bilbo his "super de duper" armour... with a big hole in it. lol

i'd almost forgotten about that part with Beorn. Actuaqlly now i think about it quite a lot of the hobbit was hilariously funny! lol

I found the names of the Trolls, (Will, Tom and Bert) to be funny because everyone else has unusual names, and those are just so common. Somehow I found that funny.

Yep, it is funny, compared to all those lovely and complicated names in LotR, Sil and other of Tolkien's works! lol

I love it when they argue all night aout how to eat Bilbo and the dwarves. The Hobbit is just so funny.

i also love the fact that the riddles are so easy that even i could get the answers to most of them! lol (bearing in mind i was about 8..mayeb....i can't actually remember but something like that certainly!!)
