Lady of the Rings

Yay! :hooray: I'm the first person to post here in this new section!
lol Anyway ,just wondering what your favourite jewellery is in LOTR and why?
Winyaél Greenleaf
May 2nd,2003, 03:01 PM
Heh... well done for being the first supporter of this new section! lol
I chose Nenya... I thought it looked really elegant and not too 'showy' too... you wouldn't have noticed it at first glance... it seems to have a mystical air about it. Hmm... maybe it's just me, but anyway, that's what I think. lol
And it really looks elegant on Lady Galadriel. And I love rings!

lol Thankyou lol
I chose Arwen's Evenstar. I've always thought it was really pretty
I love rings too! But I've never really had a good look at Nenya because you only see it for a few minutes in the film.
Hobbit
May 2nd,2003, 09:37 PM
From the choises I choose the elven brooche: it was really pretty.
But I think the most beautiful piece of Jewelry is the ring Aragorn wears: The Ring of Barahir. There are only a few scénes where you can really see it but it's really well crafted.

I chose The one ring just simply cos its so iconic, to say it represents all the evil in the world, hatred and malice the film makers have made the ring with so much care, dedication and love. Its a beautiful thing and a delight to see on screen

the elven brooch, because..it's so pretty.... :) and everyone in the Fellowship wears it

I prefer Arwen's Evenstar although I liked all the jewellary in the film. This is the one I would like to own the most.

I wanted to choose Aragorn's ring of Barahir, but since it wasn't possible, I choosed Arwen's evenstar... :(

I'm still sticking with Nenya. lol

It was quite hard to decide, but finally I chose for Nenya. It's a wonderful piece of jewellery... I also love the Elven Brooch

Arwen's Evenstar. I love it so much that i beg my Dad for one! Quite expensive and it is my 'precious'.
Bonos-Girl
May 5th,2003, 11:12 PM
i want one...but i swear the ones they sell are bigger than the ones in the film...they're two inches long the ones they sell....if they were smaller i would have wanted one for the ball last saturday. but as it happened i found a necklace that matched my shoes perfectly...weird!
anyways...i voted for..erm..i can't remember now..it was either the brooch or the evenstar...

I voted for Nenya. It was very beautiful indeed, although the elven brooches come in a very close second.

May 7th,2003, 08:04 AM
Why is it that my choices never seem to be on the polls?
I choose Aragorn's ring. If you ever get to see it close up, it is a really neat ring.
Bonos-Girl
May 7th,2003, 06:01 PM
yep, i would have chosen it as well...but it isn't in the poll so i chose something else!

May 7th,2003, 07:55 PM
I liked his ring as well. It's very....uh....can I say "manly"? It's a very cool ring.

I loved the Elven Brooches! I must draw those Lorien leaves everyday while I'm bored in classes! lol I find them special, for each member of the Fellowship owned one... for some period of time ;)

May 8th,2003, 02:29 AM
The elf-brooch!! I want one of those!! I always loved it, from before the movie I think! I've taken to making 'reproductions' out of foil, paper and shoe-box----in my own design that I first imagined them as in the book. It's such a lovely thing, and I love the cloaks. *wishes she have one* (But who wouldn't? lol)
All the other jewelry is lovely. The 'Evenstar' I'm not especially keen on though b/c technically it was never named that and Ary never got it. But it's creative nonetheless. Galadriel's Nenya and crown were lovely. The One Ring...uh...nope. lol

May 8th,2003, 03:12 AM
I like the ring of Barahir best for sure... but out of the options I say the one ring.... the prop in the movie is so one ring-ish lol, anyway I think they did a great job with it... plus it's just plain cool
Luvara
May 8th,2003, 08:56 PM

I would say The One Ring is my second favorite. If only I could have one that actually showed letters when scrutinized under flame.
Kenzie
May 9th,2003, 01:23 PM
yhea that would be really cool... but second i would say the elven brooch... it was somewhat close to how i imagined it

I hadn't thought about that. That would be really cool. I would love to have it in that case.....minus the evil power.

lol
Hmm... so far the replicas of the One Ring I've seen are far from good. They're kind of... a plastic ring, and when you press the button, it glows... gotta be the stupidest thing I ever saw.
Well, Nenya is still my fave piece of jewellery. Firstly, it's elvish lol. Secondly, it's really beautifully crafted... looks really light too, gives me the impression that I wouldn't feel it on my finger. And thirdly, it's really feminine. Makes anyone's fingers look nice lol

those rings are quite nice, its just the box that looks weird and tacky. just don't suck on teh ring as Pil did...the coating kinda comes off and it turns pink-ish.....
you can get some really nice solid gold replicas as well with either red, black or just engraves writing on them. they're really expensive though...mecry...why aren't i rich?

a necklace that looks like Nenya?? Meaning? The pendant looks like Nenya? or the chain has a 'touch' of Nenya?

Well, I must admit I do like Galadriels tiara, but what I liked most of all was the brooches Galadriel gave the fellowship to put on their cloakes.
I kliked it so much because it was a small detail mentioned in the book that Peter Jackson put in the movie

RE: Favourite Jewellery
a really difficult question
decision between the one ring and the evenstar
I decided for the evenstar
Luvara
June 10th,2003, 04:18 PM
yes, the evenstar is beautiful! I really like it...
Arwen of Imladris

your so luck i'm not getting it (the Elven Brooch and the Evenstar Pendant) till this christmas! :hmppf:
Evenstar
June 13th,2003, 05:18 PM
My most favourite jewellry is Vilya but out of the list options I chose the Evenstar necklace (my namesake on WotR!)
I own the one ring but it was a really cheap version that, instead of turning you invisible, turns your finger green! I want Vilya and arwen's necklace as well but i haven't got em. mecry

The pipe... I think there's a link in the 'places to buy stuff' thread in this forum which shows where you can get accessories like the pipe.

June 14th,2003, 01:55 AM
I got a really nice catalog in the mail a few weeks ago----The Lord of the Rings Collector's Store. It's great (although rather pricey). It has everything from jewelry to swords to various collectables. It even has Gandalf's staff. I think I will keep it around just to look at it, even if I don't order anything. Maybe I will leave it in a conspicuous place around Christmas time. It's from the Noble Collection, but I don't see a web address on it
Evenstar
June 14th,2003, 11:43 AM
I know you can get the one ring from H Samuel, but I think thats a really expensive shop (for people like me with no money). I got mine for £11.99 at Argos, but it was really tacky - as well as my finger going green, the chain made my neck dirty and the ring wore away easily.
Bonos-Girl
June 15th,2003, 07:55 PM
thats the one i got..the one from argos. how much was the one in H samuel?
Elfdaughter
June 15th,2003, 08:42 PM
Yeah, that's the problem with cheap ones.
Lasgalen
June 16th,2003, 09:34 AM
I would rather pay more for a good one so that it will last and look just as good next year as it did brand new. Only prob is getting enough money for the good ones. That is why I don't have any ME jewellry yet. But I am hoping for Aragorn's ring for my B-day.

I still like Aragorn's ring. But I am wondering... after RotK comes out, will people be voting on new stuff they saw in RotK. I can't say til after I see the movie, but I suspect I will be sticking to Aragorn's ring as my fav.

Does anyone out there have the Evenstar? Were you satified and happy with it?
Lasgalen
October 26th,2003, 09:55 AM
I don't have one. But I have heard from those that do have it that the little jewel is prone to falling out. They are happy with the way it looks, but upset about the workmanship.

I am only saying that several people have complained about their jewel falling out of the evenstar. Maybe you could check around some websites and see if this is a widespread problem or not.

That's a good idea. Of course, i think, like anything, it depends where you get them from.

Say it's coming from Noble Collection. And I tried to look up on the net if it had any problem, all I got were web sites with the name Evenstar that were experiencing issues.

Hmm. Try using the 'advanced search' and type into the 'exact phrase' box 'evenstar necklace' then type in 'problems' in the normal search box. That should narrow it down.

Has anyone purchased a Ring of Barahir from Noble/New Line shopping?
I'm really wanting one, but I was concerned about the quality/durability...I'd kind of llike to wear it all the time, but I wonder if it can withstand daily wear, like will the little stone pop out, etc...one would assume, given the price, that it would be pretty sturdy, but I'd hate to find out the hard way...anyone?

I chose Arwen's Evenstar, it's so pretty. I like the brooch also.
The one ring, I found a metal one on a bookmark, cut it off, and am using that as a pendant. Don't have enough money to buy the expensive, real silver/gold ones.

I wanted the Elven brooch almost from the first time I saw FOTR, and I was bought it for Xmas 2002, I love it, and wear it almost every time I go out.
I had a little windfall I wasn't expecting a few weeks ago, and bought myself the Ring in silver,( I don't wear yellow gold and the white gold was very expensive!), a Sting necklace and Sting sword.:)

Wow Mithril!! That's so cool! Hope they made Sting glow blue when there's orcs around..! ;) But then if it did I'd be a bit worried! I just have a cheap replica of the Ring! But I'd really want the evenstar! My friend has this necklace that looks so much like it..but unfortunately it's not! hmm I'll consider buying it...once i get out and get a job! =/

They did have the Evenstar when I bought my ring, but it wasn't very nice, didn't look the same as in the film at all. I bought the necklace and the sword from here- www.uniquities.co.uk -its worth checking if you live in the U.K, they have lots of goodies!

well 2 years ago on christmas, my hubbie bought me the official Evenstar, so i always thought that was my fav, but since then i have aquired Galadriel's broach, and Arwen's butterfly broach......and i can't choose between the 3, they are all so beautiful! i won't dare wear any of them. i don't want to damage them...*i just thought of something- i wear my wedding ring everyday which cost like 10 times the amount of the LOTR jewlery , but i won't wear the LOTR jewlery....*?? i think i am just waiting for a special occasion, or am just nuts! :p

Oh you lucky girl, you gotta wear them! Ofcourse one dont just put on such pieces with any clothes...depends on your dressing style I suppose! The Evenstar I would wear beneath anything tho. But I do think for everyday wear if you're into f.ex. a bit bohemic styles they would work well, and even if you like mixing jeans with velvets and silks!
I just would loooooove to get a tiara...they are abolsutely wonderful!!!!

well i have see a "real" pic of it from someone selling theirs on ebay, but here is a link, but they make it look bigger than it really is!
http://www.tolkientown.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1302
it's only 5" across, it's heavy and i don't see how it can stay on.....
http://www.elven-star.net/gallery/download.php?image_id=19
so there is a pic of Liv wearing it in the movie, and there is no way that 5 inches across would fit :(
i wonder if the Galadriel crown is the same way?
oh i have seen people making really cool home versions of Arwen's coronation crown and selling them if anyone wants to see pics, i'll poste em, let me know ;)

really you don't like silver too much?
i hate gold, with a passion :(
i think unless you're really tanned, a lot of gold looks cheesy, my wedding ring is white gold, so it looks silver.... but i think it's all about your skin/hair color....i have super pale skin , and dyed blue black hair (and tats , and people w/ sleeves like me look awful w/ gold jewelry) so silver looks a lot better.....but i only wear my wedding ring, and a nice, but cheaper version of the Evenstar...come to think of it, i have never worn the official Evenstar i have...

I voted for Nenya. I got the Elven Brooch first, which I wear - but no one outside my friends and relatives ever recognizes it. Every time I had birthday $$, or Christmas $$ or work bonus (thank goodness for those!!) or I save up and I try to get a new piece. I wear them all and enjoy them. They all seem to be pretty sturdy. I don't wear the Evenstar too much, it is so very pretty and with the crystal stones I'm really afraid of dropping it. I'm really clumsy. Nenya felt really big at first, but now I'm used to it and I feel undressed without it - but I have to be careful, its pretty sharp and I've managed to jab my own finger a couple of times - actually clumsy is probably an understatement!

I voted for Galadriel's tiara, not pratical to wear everyday, but I love the style the way it weaves and has golden leaves and it's just so cool. THe Evenstar is cool, but it's not quite me if you catch my drift. Nenya is cool, but not me either, the One ring, well, not me but it's cool, I mean, c'mon it's the ONE ring! lol Oh the Elven Brooch, that is a pretty piece, I'd get if I had the money. I love leaves. Seems practical too...

Interesting comments here- I wear my LOTR pieces all the time, I have the One Ring in silver, I'm with Lady Moat here, I don't like yellow gold, so I replaced my wedding ring with the One Ring ( I'm not superstitious about things like that ) and as for necklaces, I alternate between Sting, my Rohan necklace and the Evenstar. I wear the Elven leaf almost everytime I go anywhere, either on a jacket or scarf.
And yes, I will be wearing both the Evenstar and the brooch at my sons wedding! ;)

You all can laugh at me if you want, but my approach is to use my fine china, drink from my crystal glasses, wear my expensive jewelry (which I don't have much of btw) as much as I want... You just never know when you'll no longer be around and I would have hated the thought of never enjoying what I had to the fullest while I have it. ;)
That said, I would love a Nenya ring.

I could pick I would love to have Galadriels head-dress...it's absolutely gorgeous! But with all that's said above it would prob end up being used once a year! lol So I'd in fact rather have Gandalf's brooch, it would fit my style well, and I would wear it a lot! I also like that elven necklace with the green gems...only I find the gems to be a bit...green! lol The shape is very beautiful tho.

Gandalf's brooch is great for holding my turkish wrap closed (kind of like a long oblong poncho with a split down the front in a nice brown and dark brown/black pattern ) I toss one end over my shoulder and pin it with the brooch - I feel very elvish when I wear it! Gandalf's brooch is pretty big - about 4" long. And strong too.

Yeah I know, I wondered that myself. Some of the rings that they sell they say "Not for everyday wear." And I"m like "EH? I am not paying that money for a decorative RING, I want the real thing! Make a real to wear ring of barahir etc..." Geez. Now I hear Evenstar is sort of flimsy? Tarnishes? Think they should go import mithril from ME eh? heh heh. I know what I want for Xmas though, a custom made necklace! I would like to get wedding bands for Shadohnkh and I though, with Elvish inscription on them :) "Mo Anam Cara" My soul friend I believe it means, or something to that description. Still, I'm with you Cuiel, Galadriels' headress, woo hoo! ;)

What!? :o Those pieces you've heard are bad quality, are they New Line products, or copies? Ofcourse silver does blacken if you don't wear and clean it...but I would be very sad to hear that the quality is poor on the real deal with all the devoted fans out there buying them! :(

I haven't found any of my pieces to be bad quality, and as I've mentioned, I wear them all the time, I sometimes clean the Elven brooch with silver polish, but it stays quite clean, as does the Evenstar, I've found that just a wash with liquid soap after wearing them for the day is enough to keep them looking good.

October 26th,2004, 06:57 AM

October 27th,2004, 01:51 AM
It does for me, but I suppose it depends on how often you wear them, if they're left in a box for weeks then you might have to polish them. I've had the Evenstar almost a month, and I've never had to clean it with polish yet, but I wear it 3-4 times a week, and always wash it when I take it off. It's worth a try to see if it works for you! :)

Hi Cuiel! The Gandalf brooch's pin closing is pretty strong. Its about (the pin thing itself) is about 2 inches long and it has one of those little wheel type things that closes around the point. I've had it almost a year and its not tarnished and it went through last winter attached to my coat. The brooch part itself is really thick and heavy. All my stuff came either from New Line or the Nobel Collection. Its all good! veryhappy
