I was debating on where exactly to put this, but seeing as how it deals with artwork directly, I thought this might be a good place.
Does anyone own this in their collection? If you don't and enjoy creative artwork, this is a must have. I looked through the whole book in its entirety today at the bookstore and was amazed at what I saw. The art is so refreshing and innovative, it's not like Howe, the Hildebrandts, Lee, or Nasmith, this is from more expressionistic artists. A couple of images stuck in my head that really impressed me were the Ents storming Isengard, the riders of Rohan and soldiers of Gondor, and a very simple but absolutely remarkable piece depicting the many halls of Menegroth.
Now, granted for an encyclopedia, it was full of flaws that any Tolkien fan could pick out easily, but then again, so are most non-Tolkien authored materials out now. I wouldn't buy it for literal refrences, but for the artwork. I plan to go back and get my own copy myself.
Again, incredible book.
