The White Lady of Rohan does not make her appearance until The Two Towers, but she sure has become as much as a clothing horse as Arwen!

So which outfit do you like?

The shield- maid is wonderful...I love the contrasting colours and difference in fabric...but they're all lovely...the matelasse fabric of the fur- edged coat is very, very beautiful!

I go for the fur-edged coat, I'm the sort who looks for detail, and the detail on the detail on the coat is absolutly wonderful and the snowflake-like brooch design is gorgeous!

Dawnnamira Nerwen
May 2nd,2003, 08:56 PM
Her green dress reminds of an Elvish robe...

And I do like the white wool gown!

And the funeral garb seems just a bit too over-stated. Maybe it's just the fact that its got all that gold! lol

The fur edged coat is definately stunning. I want something like that! ;)

But I've got to say the shield-maiden one is my fave...

Hobbit

I like the shield maiden outfit the best.
The white dress is good and the dark vest over it makes it look a bit like she wearing some kinda armour but also not (if you get my meaning)
Gotta like that one.

I love the Green gown its truly beautiful :)

Mirkgirl
May 2nd,2003, 10:00 PM
Hmm well they're different... hard to say... I liked the white gown more, but the green one looks better on her... not too found of the funeral one... the coat was great, but yet it's hard to compare with the rest.... I didn;t like the Shieldmaiden outfit much... it didn't look very shieldmaiden IMO either

Lady Ashley
May 2nd,2003, 11:17 PM
I voted for the white dress and the 'shieldmaiden' outfit. I SOSOSOSOSO want the white dress. That's my favourite b/c, of course, it's really the only one she's described as wearing. (I'm going to get my aunt to make a version of it for Halloween!) And the shieldmaiden is pretty cool too, though I like the brown jumper outfit more, but it's not an option on here.

And she IS a clothes horse, isn't she? Let's see...Arwen's got...a lot, Eowyn has 6. Geez. Galadriel herself has about three different ones, plus her gift-giving cloak. (Oh, to have that one too!!!)

I attempted to simulate Eowyn's white dress with a white lace curtain...lol the sleeves turned out GREAT! The skirt...not so well.

I love the Green Gown, it looks so grand and elegant!
And the funeral garb too! Love the colour and the way the cloak trails behind...
Wow Lady Ash, you attempted to make Eowyn's White dress? Any photos or methods that you used and you'd like to share? Feel free to start a new thread for that!

I love the Green Gown, its truly stunning, but the White Wool Gown is probably my favourite. I love the sleeves and ties on the upper arms of that dress! It's so cool!

Little Devil
May 3rd,2003, 02:44 PM
I love them all, they're all so different from each other, but all have that feminine side for Eowyn, I think the Funeral garb is very nice, has thattouch of royalty. ;) :p

My favourite is the green gown in fact I'd love a frock like that.

Although I liked the beautiful simplicity of the Shield Madien Outfit, I voted for the Funeral Garb. It's quite elegant and regal.

I voted for the Green and the White Gown. All of her dresses are beautiful and elegant, but these two are my faves...

I absolutely love her white gown!! ...and how it just flows in the wind when she's standing on Edoras! :) I was thinking of making it for my costume, but i decided on an Elf outfit instead... always wanted pointy ears lol

May 6th,2003, 11:14 AM

Celebrían
May 7th,2003, 06:26 AM
Well I loved the green gown and the white gown. Wouldn't mind owning both. I may be crazy, but when did Eowyn ever wear a funeral outfit? Did I miss something?

Gil Galad
May 7th,2003, 09:55 AM
id say its from tRotK but im not sure it cud be from the EE version either

Lessa
May 7th,2003, 10:34 AM
The only funeral I remember that Éowyn would have attended was her father's. So it must be in ROTK because it took place after the ring was destroyed.

Gil Galad
May 7th,2003, 01:24 PM
yeh thatd make the most sense, unless, they buried her cousen, the kings son, in tTT

My guess will be that we might see that dress in the EE DVD at Theodred's funeral or perhaps at someone else's funeral in ROTK.

Lady Ashley
May 8th,2003, 02:11 AM
Celebrian is right; the Funeral Dress is prolly from Theodred's funeral. Remember the dress she's wearing when those kids come in and eat while the others are talking? That fiuneral dress.

Celebrían
May 8th,2003, 02:15 AM
I thought that was the dark green dress in that scene.....When I get my TT DVD, I'll keep an eye out for that. I have a long wait! :(

Lady Ashley
May 8th,2003, 02:19 AM
Well, there are PLENTY of pictures of her in it; just go to http://www.councilofelrond.com or to TORN'S photos, or here!

May 8th,2003, 04:06 AM
Okay, I looked at the dress at COE, and it looks the same in pattern, but it looks a bit darker to me. Maybe it's just the pic though (I'm not trying to be argumentative, I promise! )

Mum had a dress like that in the early 70s. The only differences were no belt and the neckline and sleeves were trimmed with silver rather than the gold Éowyn had. I liked her in that dress I wonder what she did with it? *note to self* ask her!

maybe if you still have it lying around you could take a picture of it and post it.... i'd really like to see.

Lady Ashley
May 9th,2003, 07:01 PM
Yeah! Just b/c it's trimmed with silver and not gold doesn't mean it's not great. The gold lining was really the film's version of it. In fact, beyond the dress being white and having a silver belt we have no description of it. Gosh, it could have had a different color trim or no trim at all! lol

Kenzie
May 9th,2003, 09:11 PM
it must have been hard doing the outfits because they had to make it look beliveable and try to go by the few descriptions they had

May 10th,2003, 01:44 PM
I love the white dress and the green gown, any news about the wedding dress?I can´t wait to see it!!!Probably it's going to be the best of all.
I like more Eowyn's dresses than Arwen's even the colors.
It would be so nice if people could dress like that in this days, and buy those outfits in the mall!!!

Winyaél Greenleaf
May 10th,2003, 01:51 PM
I absolutely agree! lol But on certain hot days, I wouldn't like wearing all that royal garb after all lol

Yes, I do love Eowyn's dresses more than Arwen's too.

Kenzie
May 10th,2003, 02:57 PM
though i really like what shes wearing here (http://www.councilofelrond.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=8062&orderby=titleA)

i lov the material and style of it ... and the brooch is gorgeous

Winyaél Greenleaf
May 10th,2003, 03:02 PM
oh yar, that's most probably the only outfit I like of Arwen's too. I think it was Jasmine Watson and her team who did that brooch ;)

My fave eowyn dress is the green gown, followed by that royal purple funeral garb.

Beleriel
May 14th,2003, 10:21 PM
I much prefer Eowyn's dresses to Arwens. I think those scoop necklines on Arwen's dresses are sooo unflattering!! :o They age her considerably, in my opnion....

Mind you... being as she supposed to be 3,000 years old maybe thats what they were trying to do. lol

Eowyns dresses have flattering cuts to them I think, and I love the dropped waistline on most of them.

Does anyone agree with me? :p

Kenzie
May 14th,2003, 10:40 PM

I absolutely agree!!! The scoop necklines are quite unflattering, but I didn't really think they age her considerably though. Dropped waistlines are cool. They make one look slimmer lol

Lessa

You have to humour her B has a very quirky sense of humour.
*runs off for the airport before B can catch me* Maybe by the time I get back from the Isle of Balar she'll have forgotten.

All of Éowyn's frocks are gorgeous but I still prefer the green one.

Catz
May 17th,2003, 12:16 PM
the thing is they were designed for women with small busts.........if you look at them, they have very few shapings..........a dart and no seams, if that.........thats very hard to carry off with anyone with a large bust..........in that case youd be best to look at princess seaming to keep that sleek look.......the seams would be visable, but thats better than gaping, which is what youd get trying to copy the shape exactly for most women without an expert pattern cutter
and they didnt have dropped waists......most of Eowynns dresses didnt have waists.......the illusion of a waist is created by the use of a belt hung low on the hips
:catz:

Winyaél Greenleaf
May 17th,2003, 12:20 PM
You're right Catz. They are sooo different from those dresses of Elizebethan times lol

And I do notice that most of her dresses have belts.

well yeah, but the effect was still the same wasnt it? To drop the waist? I love that effect. It is so flattering as it lengthens the torso, especially if you are short (like me!) :)

have you seen the new pics from newline, eowyn appears in one, wearing a damn beautiful light blue coat (or cloack?)check it out,it's so pretty!!!!

Celebrían
May 18th,2003, 02:35 AM
Yeah, you're right about the belts creating the illusion of a dropped waist.....I like, it though.

I also noticed that Eowyn was very small chested....you're right, those gowns wouldn't work on someone more....... shall we say, "well-endowed". ;) Very good observation, Catz. ;)

Catz
May 18th,2003, 05:55 AM
it was a deliberate design choice, to minimise the shaping on the gowns.......this helped to create the long elegant lines........as i say, the shape could be mimiced for those who are a little bigger ;).......by the use of a princess shape and the careful choice of fabric to minimise the visibility of the seam line.........i have to say tho, that with Eowyns dresses they did a wonderful job of not having the dresses upstage the actress, which could very easily have happened.......Miranda Otto is a slight lil thing, and very fair, and with all those rich fabrics and colours, she could easily have been lost, but the simplicity of the basic garments allowed you to see HER and not just her clothes.....a masterful job from Ngila Dickson and her people
:catz:

Celebrían

I think the people who designed all her outfits are genius's really brings out her character with her costumes. ;)

Hobbit
May 20th,2003, 12:17 AM
Yes, the dress makes her look more beautiful but doesn't take all the attention towards the character away. It actually amplifies and makes her character look ""stronger" (If you get what I mean :) )
Miranda looks really good in those dresses.

If I hadn't known better, I'd have thought that was the one that someone in ROTK the book gave her. *grin* But *sadly* the background looks like Edoras. *shrug* but that IS a LOVELY blue coat.

Altáriel
May 20th,2003, 09:06 PM
I thought the same as you, lady ashley ,but it doesn't have silver stars on,and the one in the book is dark blue(deep summer night blue)so i thought "it can't be this one"
Plus if is not that one that means we're going to more beautiful coats, great!!!more costumes to talk about!!! i hope that coat appears in the movie,it will have to be so pretty and Miranda is going too look great, i like her in blue clothes like the funeral garb...
remember a spy report of someone who was in the making of Eowyn and faramir wedding?that person said that the dress she was wearing was the prettiest he had saw and miranda looked extremely beautiful in it,I remember he said he wouldn't have mind kissing her:smooch: hope that scene will be in the theatrical version

Dawnnamira Nerwen
May 20th,2003, 09:38 PM

Winyaél Greenleaf

ooh yes! Can't wait to see a pic of the design for Eowyn's armour!!!

But for the moment, my fave is still the Green Dress ;)

Hobbit
May 21st,2003, 04:52 PM
I hope her armour in RotK looks like a bit like that of Theoden but less "rich" And I'm looking forward how they're gonna hide her face and hair for I haven't seen helmets with visors yet so it might be difficult.

My fave at the moment: shieldmaiden Dress

Kenzie
May 21st,2003, 06:16 PM
yhea it might be kinda hard to hide her face and the armor will be very bulky on her... shes very petite

Bonos-Girl
May 21st,2003, 06:28 PM
yep, that could be a problem..but i'm sure the costume people will have sorted it...they might just hide her hair and cover some of her face to make her look different...some people do look really different if youi can't see their hair...

Hobbit
May 21st,2003, 07:41 PM
I guess you're right. They should find a convincing way to cover her eyes too: if you can't see someone's eyes he/she is alot harder to recognize (especially when he/she wearing armour so you can't recognize the body shape)
Then it'll be hard to recognize her
Fave costume of Eowyn: still shieldmaiden outfit

Bonos-Girl

fave costume: green dress/shieldmaiden

Kenzie

i think i'm leaning a little on the green dress... but the white dress is still my favorite

Hobbit
May 24th,2003, 07:48 PM
The green is fine but I prefer the shielmaidens dress....
the fur edged coat is great too and looks great on her but I still like the Shieldmaiden outfit the best

Kenzie
May 24th,2003, 08:28 PM
i'm not too keen on the fur coat ... it makes her look very ... flat shall i say and doesn't seem to realy compliment her body as much as some of the others seem to do

Hobbit
May 24th,2003, 11:05 PM
Very true, but I think the colors of that dress look very good on her.

Kenzie
May 25th,2003, 03:48 PM
yhea thas true hobbit, the colors do look very nice on her, and i mean it's a nice coat, but i don't think it really flatters her wonderful shape as much as the others.

Hobbit
May 25th,2003, 03:57 PM
I know what you mean Kenzie. You don't really see her shape with this coat, but I like it anyway.
I still think the Shielmaiden dress is the best, but that's just my two cents...

Kenzie
May 25th,2003, 04:04 PM
yhea i really like the shield maiden outfit too... i like the slleves of it!!

Hobbit
May 25th,2003, 04:17 PM
I like those too, but I especially like the dark vest over the white dress... great contrast and it looks good on her...

Kenzie
May 25th,2003, 11:58 PM
yhea and the bands that go around the waist of the vest!! they're gold loke ... very pretty

I think the funeral garb looks very regal  That's why I voted for it and the Green gown

I think the green dress looks quite good on her, but I think the Shieldmaiden outfit is the best: it fits her character so well ;)

Do you think so? :o I thought all the gowns were pretty long and flowy, making the wearer look tall and elegant, which is how the royals in LotR were described.

I think she actually looked very long and proud in that costume... but I guess it just depends on how you look at it

ya know, I have a feeling Luthien meant 'Eowyn appeared for such a short time in that dress' lol

That's what I understood also! It makes sense that way
And I still love her white dress the most! :) You are right about the sleeves (I mean the sleeves of all the dresses): they look magnificent!

Yup. Long, flowy sleeves are a trademark of medieval royal garments! Which is why I love the green dress and funeral garb. Those sleeve are huge! But they must have been heavy lol

I like white dress too. Its sleeves are quiet impressive.
