I know a lot of you like AOE/AOM, and fortunately, so do I!
These games are amazing fun and if you don't know what they are, they're strategy games set in the Stone age etc, Dark ages and in Mythology.
Which one is your favourite? Mine is definitely AOEII. I bought AOM expecting it to be a better game, but there was just something lacking from it, I don't think I like the God Powers, and to me, AOEII had a better user interface, and the units were more fun. My fave civ used to be the Teutons, until I found out they were banned on most Internet games lol, but now I like the Mayans and their Plumed Archers.

I loved AOE2. I wouldn't know about AOM for I haven't got that game but AOE2 rocks. I usually take the English (I think longbowarchers are the best) but I also like the Chinese very much.

The English unit is the Longbowman. My brother often plays as the English, because of their superb range. I prefer Plumed Archers due to their better capability to survive (they have 60 HP, I think). They're cheap to produce, too.
The original AOE is nothing compared to the sequel, but it is still a very good game, with units such as Catapults, Centurions and Cataphracts. I always used to get an army of Centurions - they ruled in AOE.
Hope to see you around the forum more, Hobbit!

Thanks YayB

as for AOE it was good although AOE2 surpassed it with ease.
I don't really remember most units from AOE1 for it's very long time since I last played it but I always thought chariots where cool... and Warelephants. Centurions where great aswell.

I've only got AOM. I'm using the editor to create some LOTR themed levels!

That sounds like an awesome idea, Saruman. Maybe when you've finished, you could send one to me! What are you basing your world on, the map of Middle Earth?

Saruman

Well, I'm doing maps which cover parts of Middle Earth. For example, I'm doing a Fangorn Forest level, which contains a few trolls, and some walking trees! I'm also going to make a Moria map. I hear that there's a program on the web that allows you to create full campaigns rather than single scenarios, which sounds interesting.

There's a new expansion for AOM coming out, called 'The Titans'. Is it just me, or does this look like the temple of the vestal virgins?

Age of mythology is amazing. So much detail. AOE is still a classic though ;)

I enjoyed both AoK and AOM. AoK was simpler but AoM had better graphics.
Its hard for me to pick a fav civ from AoK but I like the Japanese because of there good economy. Also the Mongol's special unit is pretty good.

I'll have to go play them both again as I haven't tuched them in awhile.

My Fangorn Forest map for AOM went wrong; I'll need to retry it. The Moria map is almost done, complete with Watcher, Trolls and Balrog, and I've started the Siege of Minas Tirith, complete with Grond and Fell Beasts.:evilcool:

That sounds incredible, Saruman! :o Would there be any chance of you posting some screenshots when you're done?

I love this game! I play it all the time! lol I even know a huge list of cheats too, hehehe... ;)

I wanted to get Mythology for my B-day, but I got some LOTR merchandise instead... I plan on getting it soon though.

Hopefully I'll finish them in the summer holidays, so I'll post pictures then!:) The Fangorn Forest level, however, will be delayed, as I will need to use ent - like units (dryads) in it, which are only in the expansion pack that comes out in the autumn.

Sounds great! :)
I'm trying to get my hands on AoM someday soon: from all the things I've heard about it, it's really good.
Untill then I'll just have to play AoK even more: The Ghengis Khan campaign is really awsum and levelediting is fun (nowdays I'm always building city's with the Byzantines)

Hehe there is one cheat, that gives you a car with rockets or something. My friend uses it all the time, but I've got no idea which cheat it is. It's pretty funny lol

The rocket car is hilarious, and on the original AOE the cheat to get it is "big daddy". It's almost undefeatable and so fast! lol

When playing just for a few mins of fun I like to use hordes of the smashing monkeys. lol Those things are great.

The cheat I find the funniest is that huge villager who is incredibly fast and just runs around without being able to do anything. It makes me crack up! roflmao Some of the cheats on AOE are hilarious.
What kind of map does everyone play on? I like Team Islands, but someone else I know prefers Black Forest.

Huge Villager? Never seen that one. *goes to look*

I often like Archipelego(sp) or Continental. But it really depends on who I'm playing against and what Civ I have. Japs with their economy are really good on Island maps but the early military civs (i.e. Vikings) are better on something like Coastal.

Archipelago is OK, it's pretty similar to Team Islands. I prefer to be completely separated because then you can build a stronghold and see if anyone can break through it, and vice versa. :) It's quite fun!
I'm not too fond of the snow scenarios, but I like the fact you can track people's footprints, it's a nice idea.

I love AOM!! As a huge lover of Greek and Roman mythology, I just can't stay away from this game. I love the fact that I can create Minotaurs and Hydras and send them on a path of destruction. mwahaha!

I have so many cheats for this game- my personal favorites are a Canadian flag-clad bear with laser beam eyes that is followed by a group of monkeys and a flying, purple hippopotamus that shoots out hearts and leaves a rainbow trial wherever it goes. They're hilarious.

I haven't played AOE- just plain fighting doesn't appeal to me. The mythical beasts have to be thrown in before it catches my attention.

That's the same for me. I bought it because I liked mythology.

I love AOE 2, always fun to do. I have one pet peeve with the game....in the scenarios, why the hell do the enemy civs only build scout cavalry and a couple of men at arms, a few battering rams and a few catapults, theres no chance to have a massive battle with the little guys. :(

But other then that I love the game, I'm usually Teutons, but the Britons have longbowmen, which rule.
