This (http://store.yahoo.com/greatsword/clothing.html) might give you some inspiration on how medieval costumes look like ;)
I love medieval costumes too! When I play the game 'The Sims' I'm always looking for medieval 'skins' to download...
anyway, that's another issue... lol
A good example of medieval gowns might be the green gown that Eowyn wears. You can see the pic in the Eowyn's Outfit Poll.

WInyael - you are a goddess! I've been wracking my brain for weeks trying to think of the word - bodice.
I bought a full peasant outfit and Medieval lady tunic at the Renaissance Faire several years ago. I only get to wear them when I'm teaching a clothing unit at school or for Halloween. Now I'm hopingt o wear both at the Toronoto Gathering as they're having an Elrond's Ball and Medeival Market. Maybe Rumil will make his BarBQ in August a sorted affair - and let us all dress up as orcs, bagpipers, wizards, and elves. Somehow, I'm not sure that would encourage better attendance, ha!, ha! Anyways, thanks for the sight - I'm gonna' write it all down before I forget - seen any good kid's books on Medieval Dress? I'll go check my collection of Knights & Castles books too. The students SHOULD be able to access the website from the classroom so I'l jot it down - thanks again!

Don't know if this thread is still active, but if you want any help at all, I'm a medieval re-enactor - my persona is a Celt, but if I don't have the answer to your question, then I know tons of people willing to impart advice.

Very cool, ED! And afterall some medieval costumes are closely related to LotR-costumes...I used a mix of inspiration for my gown, also medieval.
I bet you have links to some good site as well;) so if I'm correct please post them in the links-thread!:)
