Quenya Exercises

I am wondering if anyone is interested in practicing their Quenya. I'm aware of the 'Quenya Practice' thread, but I was thinking about something a little different. I could write down sentences in Quenya, and in another thread post the English translations. This way people can get extra practice by trying to translate them at home. (I really love the Ardalambion course exercises, but there's just not enough of them!)
Please let me know if you're interested.
(Oh, and I hope this is OK with you Isiltari. And if there's enough interest - I'm thinking five people or more - would you be willing to just check over my work for me? That way we'll have double-checked everything so that we can all learn the real deal! ;))

Please let me know ASAP so that I can start arranging more practice material. If you could, please PM me so that we don't clutter up the board. But if you'd like others to see your comments too, by all means, go for it. :grin:

Hm... Let me rephrase this a little. (I made it sound like I'd be the only one writing down stuff! Whoops!) What I really wanted to say was that this could be a place where everyone could put down exercises for others to do. I hope that this project will work out, because I know that, I at least (and Manalinya too!), am interested in having a question-and-answer format similar to Ardalambion.com's.
Any comments? :read: I'm excited to hear from you fellow Quenya-lovers! :grin:

There doesn't seem to be a huge interest in this little thread yet, so here's a little tidbit to get started. ;)
A couple of these phrases are....umm....a little bizarre. Yes. Staying up until two in the morning tends to produce a little insanity. But everyone needs a regular dose of lunacy, hehe. They were really fun to do though, so good luck in translating them!

1) I formaitë roquen yolo ve firini lingwi.

2) Tana olosta tyaro Laiquelassë ná calwa!

3) Cilmessenya ná "Ráca-narmo-hára".

Just thought I'd take a shot at translating. Um, bizarre was an understatement (especially for the last one :)). They were really funny to translate. I got a laugh out of it. Kay, this is what I got.

1) The right-handed rider stinks like dead fish.
(I'm glad I'm left-handed :))

2) That dreamy actor Legolas is beautiful.

3) My self-name is "Wolf-Wolf-Sit."


I'll try to think of some sentences for you translate too. Great fun. :)

Yup, they're all correct! :grin:
I thought that it would be funny to teach someone #3, and then hear them go around all day saying "My self-name is Wolf-Wolf-Sit". lol
Oh, and 'self-name' means a name that someone has chosen for themself. (Although I don't know who would want to call themself 'Wolf-Wolf-Sit" ;))

The Quenya Practice thread would probably serve your needs just fine, but I don't see any problem in keeping this thread. I'll be happy to check the accuracy of everyone's work. Have fun!

I've never even been to the Language forum before...and my Quenya isn't good enough to translate most of the words. I've started the Ardalambion course, and I'm going to do lesson 8 when I get off the Internet.
I have a quick question about that course, just to make sure mine's doesn't have something wrong with it (I have an idea how). Anyway, after all the lessons there are exercises, of course, but, are the exercises for lessons 6 and 7 the same, or did I do something wrong somehow? See, I copy-pasted all the exercises into an "Exercise" file, and I think that I may have messed something up.

No, the exercises for lessons 6 and 7 are not the same. You must have made a mistake copying them.
Anyway, glad to hear you're learning Quenya. I think the world needs more Quenya speakers/writers.

Oh darn it! I knew they weren't the same, see I started once before, and got to about Lesson 11, but discovered the stupidring.com parody, so I postponed (sp?) it. Oh well, I can just download it again, right? Thanks a bunch Manalinya! :)

Whoops, sorry Fallin For Frodo! It's bad when I start the thread and then I don't reply!

Anyways, here's what I got! (Couldn't quite get some of them though, darn!)

1) O strip and lie in bed! (Yikes!)
2) In mist! (I don't think this is what you meant, but that's all I could come up with.)
3) Seaweed with fruit! (Haha, this one is cute. I can picture a little seaside restaurant with someone yelling this to the waiter.)
4) Who's in the room?
5) I have barely any clue for this one. Got "is", "festive", and "wood-something".

And no, your sentences were not boring! I really enjoyed tranlsating them! (Even though the first one seems a bit questionable.)
I'll get some more sentences up for others to tranlsate if they want too! :)

Well, here's a few more Quenya sentences if anyone's interested in trying them. (And I'll try to have a variety of easy and hard sentences so that people just starting the Ardalambion course aren't left out! ;))

1) I Calwa Atalantië (Hint: Switchfoot's newest Album)

2) Atta hyaryar umë carë forya... nan nertë polë. (Hint: Relient K's newest Album)

3) Métima quen hostanë. (Hint: Superchic[k]'s newest Album - although I didn't find a word for 'picked', so I used 'hostanë' instead. :thumbs:

Wow, is there a pattern here or what?
4) Írë ilya haryanyë ná i talanenna perina... (I believe that this is one of the songs on "Walk to Remember"... it's written by Switchfoot anyhow... A line from an awesome song. Bonus points if you can tell me the title of the song! ;))

Here's an easier one:
5) I rocco lelyanë ana i taurë.
