View Full Version : An idea

Hello all, I'm kind of new to this board(but I have done quite a few RPG's in the past on another board I go too). I was wondering if anyone would be up for a good old fashioned RPG. You see, I'm not sure if his idea has been done in an RPG on this board but here goes.......it's like a WHAT IF story to tolkien's LOTR. What basically happens is that it goes deeper in to the storyline only it's a twist on the ending. WHAT IF SAURON TOKE BACK HIS RING AND FRODO FAILED?! The basic story idea is what happens after he does. Minas Tirith is turned in to a slavecamp and Sauron has waged war on all of middle-earth.

The story is of the months and the years after Sauron takes back his ring, and the heros who waged the war against him.

Anyone up for it?

Hey sounds like a grand ol' time.
BONUS: less plot thinking to come up with. I'm still sorta new to the RPG thing, but I'm up for anything. Lead on, brave hobbit!

Hmmm... I'm all for it. However, I think it would be a good idea to make some base rules for this certain rp. Like what we can and can't do...

Well, do I get to run the RPG the way I want. I create 3 threads: a character bio thread, a discussion thread(to work out the story) and the thread for the story itself

;)

We'll probably be 'motivated' to combine the bio and discussion threads into one, which wouldn't be too tough. As for the story, I don't know...

hmm sorta like that. Are any powers allowed to be used, and if so what kind? (this is always a big question concerning my characters I have).

well, it depends on the character. Wizard? high ranking elf?

Hmm... I think I'll pm you about this a bit later. So that way I don't have to spend a lot of time making an awfully long post.

I've still gotta come up with a character...I've got two other creations roamin' around this forum with a few different names. Do you want just elves and wizards in this thing or would you like some incorporation of men(women), hobbits, or dwarves? I suppose it will all have to be figured out when we come up with a story...hmmmm...

Bilbo
May 11th,2003, 08:26 AM
well here's the basic story.....

It was at that time the time of fear and despair. Many months ago, the ringbearer and his fellowship of companions set out from Rivendell. In the spring, the fellowship broke off and to mount doom went the most sought after token in all of middle earth......the One ring, the ruling ring that the dark Lord Sauron himself needs to achieve total victory over the divided people of middle earth. So forth set Frodo to the mountain of Fire in the land of shadow, MORDOR. With Frodo went his servant, Samwise Gamgee, also a hobbit of the shire. Their task would soon prove the most dangerous cause of all. Soon, the two hobbits had captured a guide, Gollum who was once a hobbit and the holder of the ruling ring. But they were deceived by Gollum in the pass of Minas Morgul, Shelob's Lair. Frodo was wounded and Samwise fought his way up to the dark tower to rescue frodo. They escaped and made their way to the mountain of fire.....

In Gondor, where a last stand was being prepared, hope and fear spread throughout the land as Aragorn, son of Arathorn, heir to the throne of gondor, rode with Gandalf the white, Legolas and Gimli, and the sons of Elrond to the Black gate of Mordor, taking the great eye of Sauron off of the two hobbits. But this all proved in vain, and doom was already at hand as a trap was set.......

Frodo and Sam walked along the path leading up to the door of Mount Doom, Sammath Naur. Destruction of the ring was at hand when from the shadows struck Gollum! The vile Gollum strangled Sam to death and chased Frodo in to the door of the mountain. Gollum seized the ring, killing Frodo by throttling his throat and nearly fell in to the lava in the process. He carried the ring out with him, but the enemy was waiting. Gollum was slain, and a host of a dozen Uruks of Mordor toke the ring, but to take it themselves. They didn't get far because Frodo had slipped on the ring, but lost it to Gollum. The Nazgul, ringwraiths, swooped down and toke the ring of power from the Uruks.

With the ring in Sauron's possesion, all hope was lost. A great host of Orcs surrounded the company at the black gates, and slaying every one of the people who resisted, including the great wizard, Gandalf.

Hope was lost for middle-earth.

First fell Minas Tirith, only a few were able to escape from the city. The rest, who couldn't flee, were taken capture and put to work inside the great stone city. And this happened to many other races: Hobbits, men, Dwarves, Elves, every race was captured or slain, put to work in numerous slave camps. The new ruler of Middle-earth was Sauron, King of Middle-Earth.

The great stone city was now one of the Dark Lord's cities, but it was run by the chief of the Nazgul and the slave drivers who were putting each race to work, sometimes the work not stopping for weeks on end. Outside the city, some people still roamed, but in secret, with no purpose or hope.

But, a breakout was preparing, a great escape from Minas Tirith, and a forming of an alliance amongst the slaves. THIS IS WHERE OUR STORY BEGINS.......

Bilbo
May 11th,2003, 08:28 AM
hence the title THE LAST ALLIANCE. It's where the last free folk of middle-earth put up a last stand against Sauron......

Saruman
May 12th,2003, 06:51 PM
Wow! Great idea!

I'm new to RPG's and don't know very much about them, but I know the bare essentials. Do these characters have to be ones that we make up? Can we be characters from the book? By that, I mean it would be nice to see what Sharkey and Worm are up to. Would the scouring have still happened? What became of Saruman and Grima? I'd like to play some sort of wizard (preferably Saruman, when he fell from the order and is possibly making his way towards the Shire, but it could be any wizard).

Bilbo
May 13th,2003, 02:21 AM
Ofcourse some characters from the books will be making cameos(you can be them as a small side character). Now, with Saruman and Grima you gotta look at the timeline. Did the scouring happen during the time Frodo was in Mordor?

Elvenwanderer
May 13th,2003, 02:28 AM
hmm, then could I be Elrond (or Galadriel?) also? My character is supposed to be related to them....

So, are we having a separate bio thread? or are we putting bios in this thread? just my stupid rambling questions.... :):) what's new?

Bilbo
May 13th,2003, 02:35 AM
I was thinking just doing the character bios in the discussion thread

Tirithel
May 14th,2003, 06:30 AM
I'm waiting for y'all to post your characters so I know what [who] I have to work with. Or, Bilbo, (ahem, Kitty Foo hee hee ;) lol) if you need someone to play a certain part or fill a spot or something, hey I volunteer.

Galadriel

Tirithel
May 15th,2003, 06:52 AM
I really dunno, EW...what do you mean what have I started? With the 'it hurts to think' thing or with my character? lol With my character, I was thinking of using another underdeveloped one from a different thread: Anorwen (read about her in Laurelindorian...I think that's how you spell it)...I dunno. Hope that at least partially answers your ?.

I think I've decided which of my 60 bazillion characters to use in this one, though I may come up with more later.

Name: Uinen, named for a maia of Ulmo, the spouse of Osse
Race: Human (woman)
Bio: Enslaved for a short period of time at the first seige of the city. Her mother disappeared along with her siblings, and her father was killed at the last stand of the Captains of the West. She escaped quickly, knowing the ways of the city and made her way to the outer wall. POOF- she disappeared. Angry and determined to be a part of the force, however small, that regains the captial of Gondor.

Appearance: Tall, strong. She's a working gal, not of overly rich background, the type that gets her hands dirty. Thick blonde curly hair, bright blue eyes, the color of the sea. Ruddy colored yet smooth skin and a beautiful warm smile, that rarely shows itself these days. Not much of a girly girl, was rugged in days of peace and has become even more so, wandering the outer walls of the city, alone and friendless, looking for others who've escaped.

CLOTHES: Left the dresses behind- leather pants, white shirt, leather armor of Gondorwith the white tree across her chest, black hooded cloak over all.

WEAPONS: Long sword that had belonged to her father, a guard of the Steward. Upon escaping, found her old home and took up his raiment and his occupation, sort of, before leaving the city. Also owns two short daggers. Has some skill with them that has been slow to develop as before, she never had any use for it. In the wild, however, it has come along nicely, and where skill is lacking, ferocity and bravery suffice.

Hey, can a strong, female hobbit join? This would be my third RPG, but I can't help it! BTW, great storyline! This RPG is going to pick up alot of people!
I'm kinda new to rpg-ing, but I'm a writer, so it shouldn't be that hard!

I don't think it would be a problem, though you'd have to wait for Bilbo's say. I'm havin lots of fun in "Marvin" right now, so I trust your abilities! ;)

Alright, Hobbit and Fairiwen, I can set you two up if you want to be Hobbits. Just read my next post in the story

Togo Bleecker
July 14th,2003, 01:34 AM
this idea sounds absolutely fantastic...i was wondering what would happen if frodo failed to and am delighted that someone is gonna toss around this idea..i have noticed that this thread was at the bottom..and that there are threads with the title "the last alliance" i hope im not too late in joining rp comes really naturally to me i've been doing it for years heres my c's profile

More than anything he wishes to be normal...but above even that, to stay out of trouble.

Repeating myself: ;) lol

The last Alliance is the RP thread...this has been going for a while as well, but feel free to join! I think Bilbo is leading an army of hobbits towards Gondor at the moment if that gives you any ideas on how to work your character in, or whateva. Re-Post your profile in the thread titled "The Last Alliance Discussion Thread" and check out what's been goin' on.
