My favorite actress in the LotR is Cate Blanchett. I think she is under appreciated. There are many threads for Arwen and Eowyn, but Galadriel seems negelcted. I think Cate did an excellent job portraying Galadriel. She gave the character the grace and the weariness that Galadriel should have. She had a sadness in her eyes that reflected the many long years that Galadriel had spent in ME and all that she has been through.

Cate is also great in other movies like The Talented Mr Ripley . What are your thoughts?

She was also one of the 100 Greatest Movie Stars in that recent programme on Channel 4. She certainly deserved it. I think that one of her best performances was as Elizabeth I. She's a really versatile actress and I admire that.

She's a very fine actress but often over looked which is very un-fair. I agree she portray's Galadriel perfectly i dunno who else they cud av cast that wud av brought so much 2 the role :)

I must say though I like Galadriel better on the extended-DVD....she's seemed to have more heart to her and not so cold. I always thought that Galadriel even though she was sad, was cheerful towards her guests, the fellowship.

That's just my thoughts.:)

I do like Cate though, she's a brillant and beautiful actress. She has much poise.

I never thought Galadriel was cold even in the theatrical version. But I agree, the EE is better.

That particular scene with Gimli made all the difference.

Glad to hear Cate has so many fans. I don't think she gets enough credit for the outstanding job she did.

I agree with you that Cate portrayed Galadriel with dignity and power, and was very credible. However, I had the misfortune to see her at the London Premiere of TTT, and she was aloof, spent a lot of time posing for the cameras, refused to sign autographs, and basically cut the fans dead. Her behaviour was in stark contrast with other cast members present and the general relaxed and happy atmosphere of the event. Perhaps she was having an off day?

wasn't she like pregnant or just over a pregnancy or something at the time? if so you can hardly blame her for being stiff... lol

Ohhhh....that explains it then....

well I'm not positive it's true. I just remember hearing something about that when TTT was coming out... maybe I'll have a look around and see if I can confirm it

Among those who will be attending the gala screening are Cate Blanchett, who plays Veronica Guerin and fellow cast members Gerard McSorley, Ciaran Hinds, Brenda Fricker and Colin Farrell. Great news! Cate Blanchett won the Screen Actors Guild award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator.

She seems to be the frontrunner to win the Oscar in the same category.

Good Luck Cate!

WaMoZ! Thanks for sharing! I meant to watch, but without LotR it just didn't seem the same ;)

I hope she wins the Oscar, I know she was nominated for 'Elizabeth' and I was disappointed she didn't win. I still haven't seen 'The Aviator' but I've heard she's phenomenal :o!! Good Luck indeed - though isn't it bad luck to say good luck to actors :mmmm:?

I totally agree with you! She looked gorgeous in her yellow Valentino and I have to admit that I shed a couple of tears of joy when she went to pick up her Oscar...;)
And btw, you really should go and watch the film, it's really worth it. And Cate was wonderful as Katharine Hepburn. What else you could even expect? lol

Six years ago I was in my car turning right at some traffic lights when I heard on the radio that Gwynneth Paltrow had won the Oscar, for Shakespeare In Love. I had seen Cate in Elizabeth and was totally convinced she would win. The shock and disbelief were so strong I can still remember the moment so very clearly today. Now that memory can be put to rest.

Well done Cate. You deserve it.

I was surfing Internet, so I found some information about Cate that she will make another movie with same director after Elizabeth. The movie will call Golden Age (2006)..
Hmm... I am surprised.. Do someone of u know about that? I would like to know more :)
Also Cate is filming Little Fish with Hugo Weaving again :whoohoo:

Hi, another Cate fan here ;)
I've no idea about her next film but I shall keep my eyes peeled for news!
I look up to her so much because she totally becomes the character she is meant to be playing. Loved her as Galadriel - no-one better to play that role. :hyper: Cate has a very 'timeless' sort of face, so she's the absolute best in period/historical dramas, I think - anyone agree?

Well said indeed Cass  but I'd like to add one movie: The Gift a very good movie, and she has a southern accent - a bit of a thriller too - and a star-studded cast. But she was, as always, amazing :)

I was in my senior year at uni when I saw it in the theatre...*counts fingers to do math* so that would be about four years ago  I know I'm getting old :( But yes, DVD - a little disturbing, but good - and she's, of course, great in it :) Billy Bob Thornton directed it, so take that as a guideline :mmmm: ;)
