I was really upset when i went to see tt and i was really looking forward to seeing Shelobs Lair but was devastated when it wasn't shown!! I checked my book when i got home and saw Shelobs Lair is in THE TWO TOWERS!!! so why did pj cut it out and make us wait till December to see that seen??!!verymad verymad

Well I think we discuss this on another thread but anyways. I think the reason is becasue PJ needed a point to cut the movie off at so that it wouldn't be like 4 fours long and since Helm Deep took up a lot of time and everything, their probably wasn't enough time for Shelob. Plus it will make ROTK real exciting in like the 1st half hour.

Saruman
May 22nd,2003, 10:54 PM
It gives us even more to look forward to in ROTK.

Lasgalen

Of the three, RotK is the shortest book. Maybe he needed more material for it. Especially since he cut Scouring from an already short book. Although Shelob's Lair would have been an awesome cliff hanger.

Galadriel
May 23rd,2003, 02:11 AM
Yes it would have. I suppose that we will find out his real reason for cutting it when ROTK comes out. Until then we can only guess.

Miruvor
May 23rd,2003, 03:11 AM
My guess is for cinematic punch, he is loading all the most climactic scenes into the final climactic movie of the three. (Just a guess)

Shelob is one of the biggest secrets of RotK, so it must be pretty important. I understand PJ not having it in TTT, but still I wish he made HD a little shorter, and more of the Storming of Isengard.. That was so cool!!

Rock26
May 23rd,2003, 03:27 PM
PJ himself stated the there was not enough for Frodo and Sam to do in ROTK and he wanted more material for them in the final movie.

Miruvor
May 23rd,2003, 06:06 PM
I guess that is a good reason. It wouldn't be too fun in a movie to just watch Sam and Frodo sneak around Mordor on their 'long'-cut to Orodruin which took them TEN DAYS! ! !

But I sure hope they show Sam dropping his pots and pans down a pit!

lol

TTT was a litte disapointing but ROTK will be awsome with Shelob and evrey thing!!!

I was also dissappoint when I found out it would be cut because, in the book, Shelob's Lair was an integral part of the transformation of Smeagol back into Gollum, which we see come to fruitiion at the end of ROTK. Not to mention the fact that it might be the most intense scene of the books, at least for me, and hopefully will be like that on-screen.
However, I had read months in advance that it would be cut, so I had adequately lamented by the time Dec. 18th rolled around, so by then it was no big deal. However, that experience has led me to avoid any and all spoilers I can for ROTK in the hopes that the greatness of it will be multiplied by the surprise.

Also, it makes everyone who hasn't read the books come back to the third movie. They'll want to find out who the, 'she' gollum mentioned is. It's a way of bringing fans back, and making it a bit more suspensful!

It was only when a friend told me that there was nothing about a spider that i grew suspicous but she likes larking about and i thought she was. Still I agree that it will make ROTK better but it would have made a great climax for those who have not read the book and would have persuaded people who hate reading to read the books to see what the outcome of the ring is.

Thanx Valier! They have cheered me up. They're maing me even more excited. all my mates think i wont watch it coz shelob is a spider and i hate spiders but they r so wrong. these pictures definatly convince me 2 watch it. thanx:thumbs:

Here is one I forgot, and I think it's the best.

http://us.ent4.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/new_line_cinema/the_lord_of_the_rings__the_return_of_the_king/elijah_wood/rings.jpg

Isn't that just awesome?

xD Shelob should be scary. I hate spiders too... and will enjoy it when Sam inflicts pain to her... lol

Even the actors were stunned with snippets of the last movie, so it's sure to be a good one! There is another pic I've seen... ah yes, this one:

http://us.ent4.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/new_line_cinema/the_lord_of_the_rings__the_return_of_the_king/_group_photos/elijah_wood1.jpg

They look so old there! Notice that Sting is on Sam. See it's handle? Because Frodo gives it to him... thats right, I think. :)

The characters definitly change from the Fellowship to the Return of the King. It will really show in this fim. (I think it's... 134 days!! Wait... that's far... :p)

And that one with Sam holding sting... I really like the phial that Galadriel gave Frodo there. It turned out really cool! I always thought of it as a stone or something... but that one makes more sence. :p

For some really awesome stills from RotK, check this out!

That's where I got these pics. There are quite a few more... very promising!

Look at this pic... It would appear that Peter Jackson is giving Sean Austin a dramatization of what the next take should be like... He did that alot. :p

Wow, those pics look great. The early Frodo one shows cob webs all over him. I wonder why there are no webs on him when he is passed out. I love the Sam pic with sting and the phial. He could come rescue me any old time!

Valier
August 7th,2003, 06:50 AM
Good point about the spider webs. At first I was going to say it must be later, when he is collapsed from weariness. But if that were so, then they would be wearing orc clothing. I'll have to think about when that might be... hmm

August 7th,2003, 09:05 PM
Those pics are great! We finally get to see frodo using the phial and that one with sam is way cool!
I found some other great pictures from rotk but the website had dissappeared. luckily i saved them. when i get my new pc i can put them on here because this old pc isn't working too well but don't worry you will LOVE this pics I got. Thanx for all the other pictures Valier!

I don't see how that one with Sam holding Frodo could be when Sam thinks he's dead. It looks like it's outside.

August 8th,2003, 05:36 PM
yeah that picture should be taken after Shelob's Lair.. i do not think Sam holds Frodo like that at Mount Doom or anyplace else.... ahhhh ~! i cannot wait for ROTK :whoohoo:
(sorry for emphasizing) :p

Thanks for the pics, Valier =)

Miruvor
August 8th,2003, 06:36 PM
In the book they WERE outside. And, red light from the volcano would have been the predominant lighting, so that part is OK. Plus, for the final cut, they will surely have color graded the scenes to be darker, I bet.
I guess the cobwebs 'fell' off, and PJ just skips the web-wrap to save time. Hey, the movie hasn't even happened yet and we've already found a 'mistake', he, he!

August 8th,2003, 07:38 PM
lol good point. that goes to show just how much we know lotr. i can't wait. im gonna book tickets so i can see it at the big cinema near my town. I know someone who rang up saying can she book tickets now! That was so funny!. To stop me from getting all impatient I'm reading lotr again. Urgh how can we last till December?!

Actually, it looks as though PJ is challenging Sean Astin to a boxing match... roflmao

Don't worry, Feebeefi, the theatrical DVD of TTT, then the Game of ROTK, then the extended DVD of TTT, then the movie!

Here's a thought. Look at the lighting in that pic of Sam holding Frodo. Like I said, it looks like it's outside. What bothers me is Sam looks like he has Sting, which I don't think happens after Cirith Ungol. So maybe they are in Shelob's lair. But why so bright? Could that be the light from Galadriel's phial? Perhaps Sam rested it on a stone or ledge to look at Frodo. Does the phial glow if it's not being held? I don'e know, just a thought.

Thanx Saruman:thumbs:

I pre-ordered the DVD because it has stuff on rotk and because i love DVDs. I also get a discount on it because my mum works in the shop so hopefully i will get a discount on the Extended versian as well;)

There is so much to look forward to. I'm counting down the days till it tt is released. Out of intrest is anyone going to the exibition at the scvience museum in london?

Feebeefi
August 8th,2003, 10:36 PM
Another thought.

That picture with frodo in sam's arms. I saw it in this mag and it was very mis-leading. The caption was "Frodo and Sam come to the end of their journey". When my mum saw that she started crying because she though it was in mt doom. That does not look like they r in mt doom at all. So all those people who read that and haven't read the book will think that is how it ends. All those people have bin mislead. hehehe i feel sorry for them and laughing at them (especially my mum! who said she can't read the trilogy because it looks too hard!). I though i would mention that

Valier
August 8th,2003, 10:57 PM
lol Saruman... it does look like that.

Hmm... well it could be on their way up mount doom. Frodo gives Sting to Sam fro keeps, remember? The only thing is, if they were going up mouont doom, they should be wearing orc clothes. Because of the whole thing from the tower. Maybe it's wedged somwhere in between the tower and the lair. Unless they cut the towere part out. o.O

I think PJ has cut off the film by osgiliath, helms deep was the biggest scene, when shelob had appaered every body has thought about shelob instead of helms deep. Now he has a very exciting beginning for ROTK. I think it is a quite good choice from PJ

you know... as far as that Sam and Frodo pic... i've been looking at it a lot (esp. since it's the skin on my RotK countdown clock! lol ) and the more i look at it, the more i think it's from Shelob's Lair... but that's my opinion.

And I agree with Neilpryde: I was one of those fans who was really looking forward to Shelob's Lair in TTT (since it was one of my favorite chapters...) and i thought that it would be a wicked good cliffhanger for the 'non-readers.' But now when i watch TTT, the question on everyone's lips is "Who's 'She'?" I thought that was very well done! And then you'll have RotK open with Shelob.... so you'll get a whole lot of emotion packed into what's bound to be an amazing film and best out of the three! (meaning RotK)

Lasgalen
August 9th,2003, 09:12 AM
Frodo one of the main characters. I don't think it would have been a very believable cliffhanger. This way, like you said, everyone (who hasn't read book) will wonder who "she" is.

Feebeefi
August 9th,2003, 12:19 PM
I agree that Shelobs lair would have made an awsome cliffhanger but everyone is wondering who "she" is. In tt it is my fave chapter. I think people would have believed frodo is dead if they did have that in. But i really can't wait to see it in rotk. i bet rotk will win tons of awards as well.
