Why did the Valar intervene in the Feanor - Fingolfin sword incident that happened in Tirion in the House of the King. Finwe was the High King of the Noldor and the father of these two. Shouldn't this matter had been handled by Finwe. He was the king of his people and their father.

Why did the Valar intervene?

Perhaps to prevent an incident.

This event was really the first heated conflict between elf and elf, and almost a bloodshed. The Valar were probably acting like a parent or teacher, breaking up a fight at home or school before it got too far. But why did they not intervene during the Kinslaying?

That's due to the sheer number of elves that were involved, a great deal of the Noldor. In the case of Feanor-Fingolfin, it was one individual that had caused the trouble, and much easier to deal with. I believe the Valar loved the Noldor too much to do anything to stop them during the Kinslaying, because the only possible solution is they themselves killing some of the Noldor that were leading the attacks. I guess you could say they were powerless to stop them.

But back to the point, it was one trouble making elf, and they could handle that.

I agree with you Oro. Would Finwe have had the power to stop the 2 arguing?

I agree with Orofacion on the first point. The Valar definitely played the part of "guardian" to far. They failed to realize that the Elves were but children for a little while ...

I believe that the Valar would have attempted to stop the kinslaying had they been given the opportunity. I think they were as surprised as the Teleri about the forthcoming events ...

Fëanor and Fingolfin were the sons of Finwë and the incident happened in the House of the King. Was it not the authority of the High King of the Noldor enough.
I mean, if a father and King is not the right person to give judgement, then I don't know who is?
Look at what happened after that.
They banished Fëanor to Formenos. Finwë in support of Fëanor went to Formenos and there he was a better target for Melkor than if Finwë had stayed in Tirion.

One darn good example how one hotheaded moment can lead to more sorrow than good.
