Time to give some focus to possibly the nost important piece of jewellery in LotR lol
Anyone has any idea of good jewellers that produce good and accurate replicas of the ring?
According to a couple of websites and description from books, the line on the top (in the ringscript picture provided) is supposed to be on the outside of the ring and the other line is on the inside. Please correct me if I'm wrong ;)

Possibly?! It is the keyartifact of the entire story! lol
About the replica's: I've seen lotsa sites selling the one ring, but I don't know which site sells a accurate ring and which site, doesn't. I would love to know too
I always thought the entire lines you've posted where on the outside of the Ring so it was strange when I noticed in the movie that there was a line inside too. I guess I would have to reread the book to answer your question. (which I was already planning ;) )
I don't always trust info from LotR fansites so I guess the only answer to your question is in the books.

lol To tell the truth, I always thought the entire script was on the outside, until I saw this particular pic. I'm a very unobservant person. lol
Hobbit

I'm not much of an observant person either lol (although I can remember details about battles really well, but that's another topic)
I just reread the part when the Ring was tossed in the fireplace and it says that when Frodo looked at the Ring he could see fine, firery letters both on the outside and inside of the Ring.
I hope that answers your question Win ;)

Well, Ive got a silver version of the Ring. (I couldnt afford a GOLD one... and Im not prepared to wear a CHEAP one! )
But Im really pleased with mine.
Elril Galia sells them from this address www.tolkiensring.co.uk
Ive also had one of the brooches off her too! They are beautiful! :)

ah yes Hobster ;) That does answer all queries about the way the elvish script is inscribed. lol
And Bel, the silver ring is lovely. I always preferred silver jewellery to gold lol

Yep, I also love silver jewels more that golden ones :) I know a German website that sells all kind of Tolkien related souvenirs and of course the original jewels. A friend of mine ordered a ring there and it really looks stunning.
For those interested, here is the link:
Elbenwald (http://www.elbenwald.de)
"Elbenwald" means "Wood of the Elves" ;)
I think you are right about the inscriptions on the ring, Winster. :)

The gold ring looks nice! It doesn't seem to look heavy, and the gold isn't too deep... looks more modest lol The insriptions are pretty clear too

That gold ring does look nice.
Ive never heard of 8 carat gold before though!
Is it solid gold..... or gold plated??
Hobbit
May 25th,2003, 03:44 PM
I think 24 carat gold is solid and pure gold but I'm not sure: I'm no expert on gold...
The only thing I know is that you've gotta be pretty rich to buy a 24 carat golden ring lol
The ring looks really nice. Like Win said: it looks kinda modest and the inscriptions are clear and nice.

well, my wedding ring was 24 carat gold... and I know theres a 22 carat.... is the other 14? eek! I cant believe I cant remember! :o This is something I REALLY should know!
Anyway, on consideration, I would guess that ring is gold plated... only.... I AM only guessing! because it is a tad expensive just for gold plated!
Oh.... Ive confused myself completely now! (which isnt very hard to do!) roflmao

please somone give some input please.
so i checked out these rings and unfortunately (or fortunately if youre a lady) i have fat fingers, size 13 and the 2 rings i wanted only come in 10. they have silver rings which look pretty cool, in size 13, but in the book its gold so i dunno if i want the silver one. so i emailed the site and they said i can get a silver ring gold plated. but itd be an extra $30, plus an extra $10 if i wanted a bigger size. and an extra $10 if i wanted red or yellow writing. the guy also was honest and told me the gold plating eventually will come off.
so, my question to you all (and please give some input cuz this choice is driving my crazy) should i get the silver ring with black writing($85) or should i go ahead and get it gold plated with the red writing($125)?
as i said i want the gold one cuz its gold in the book, but i wanted the silver cuz its cheaper, will stay silver and i dont much care for gold. but the book its gold which is most important. but at the same time i kinda dont wanna pay $30 extra if its jus gonna come off eventually..
AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

well, I have the silver version of the ring and I love it! At least I know its not gonna spoil. So I would recommend getting one!
As for the gold plated..... personally I wouldnt touch it. It will just wear off anyway. :o
Grima Wormtongue
May 28th,2003, 02:36 AM
hows the writing on the silver one? the pics look good but kinda hard to tell. but yeah, the gold will wear off so its kinda pointless to spend the extra $$$ for it. so now i guess what color shoudl i get? the red, black, or plain?
Beleriel
May 28th,2003, 12:03 PM
Well, I have the black writing on mine..... its not sooo obvious and it looks real cool! Im very happy with my ring, I never take it off! It is precious to me! ;) lol

Is it solid gold..... or gold plated?? They are writing that it is solid gold, made out of one piece of gold. And it should be solid...it's a pretty expensive thing. lol

No, I mean its not in your face.
It looks natural, but it isnt hard to see.
I would guess that red writing would look a bit cheezy?? maybe? The black writing just looks like its meant to be like that.
hmmm... does that make sense?
Look at this picture.

See what I mean! (and NO the writing ISNT upside down!.... the RING is! ;) lol )

On consideration 9 carat gold is the usual measurement isnt it?
I wonder if its a typo. Has anyone else heard of 8 carat gold before? Or is this because its not a UK measurement??
Yeah it is expensive isnt it? I'd love a ring like that, I must admit! :)

Beleriel
June 4th,2003, 09:44 PM

Aren't we all? lol But I'd rather have nenya though.
I'm really impressed with the way the ring script is inscribed onto the ring. It's really clear and detailed!

oh I know! and do you know it really turns what would be just another ring into something SO distinctive.
Its unusual, sexy, a brilliant talking point and .... and.... sooooo precious! ;)

wow, i really like that gold one on that german(?) site, looks amazing, but i dont know anythign about it cuz its not english. but im sure its too small and/or too expensive
Winyaél Greenleaf
June 6th,2003, 05:03 PM
Nah... wouldn't think it'll be too small. but I believe it might be expensive lol
Hobbit
June 7th,2003, 11:28 AM
I doubt the ring would be too small, but they are expencive..
The first golden ring on the german site (I hope this was the one you meant) was 214,50 euro so that would be 381,81 australian dollar. (one euro is worth 1,78 australian dollar)
I hope I could help you out with this Grima ;)
As for me: I think the replicas on the german site are great. I especially like the dark ones with the "firery" red letters. The dark ring with the burning kinda letters give it a real evil look, just like in "a shadow of the past".

By the way, did you guys know that Elijah Wood has the actual ring used in the movie itself?
LIVEJessicaMae: Lef3uk asks:
Question: Elijah, is it true that you kept the actual ring from the movie?
Elijah Wood: I did. I was given the ring by Peter and his partner Fran when I went to say goodbye to them at the airport leaving New Zealand. They said they had a gift for me, handed me the box, and there was a little pouch with the ring inside it. It was very sweet.
That was an extract from a transcript of a Live AOL interview with Lij. The full article is here: http://hometown.aol.com/bigzmc/myhomepage/lotr.html

Cool. What a great story.
As for my one ring, it is a mystery. I have a golden ring, which has nothing to do with lord of the rings. Then one day at college, a friend of mine came in with, to my surprise, a proper one ring, with the writing and all. Then to top that, he said I could have it, seeing as he just kept losing it as he doesn't wear it. I was so surprised.
However, I still do not know the origins of it. It feels quite heavy and is too nice to just be one of those cheap ones who get from the post office or something, lol. So I still wander about how much it originally cost or whether it's authentic... ;)

click on the Lordoftherings sections, Solid/White Gold rings, 9c, 14c, 18c, platnium, and sterling silver, they also have the chain. I think they actually made the one ring...their a lil expansive though :-/
