Okay, this is going to sound a bit silly, but I need your help with something. I've just finished reading The Hobbit in translation, and as the translator liked to come up with his own names for different races , I'm a bit confused.
I've read in the other threads, that Will, Tom and Bert were Trolls. Right?
Now, the creatures that captured the Dwarfs in the tunnels, and later on fought the battle, were they Orcs or Goblins?
Apart from this problem, I really enjoyed The Hobbit. It's a great book, don't you think?

Umm.. I'm quite sure those fell things that captured the characters in the tunnel were Goblins. It clearly says so in the English one.
The Great Goblin was slain by Gandalf in the mountains, and the great chief of the Goblins (I thought he was related to Azog) was slain by Beorg.
Trolls are more stupid than Orcs and Goblins.

Orcs and Goblins are the same... Tolkien just used goblins in the Hobbit and Orcs in LotR.... it appears that 'goblin' was used for smaller orcs and 'hobgoblin' for larger, but as a rule goblin is a translation of the orc....

There was a thread on this some time ago... reffering to the PJ two races of orcs and goblins.... here (http://www.warofthering.net/forums/vbulletin225/upload/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1816)

I didn't realise goblins and Orcs are the same thing! I always saw them as different. Well at least I know better now, thanks Mirky
