I am certain Aletheia we wouldn't be the only ones watching either ;) We could tie a lot of people down and force them to watch!
:bigups: Eowyn! I'm so happy that she's finally getting some bigger roles - she's far too talented to not be seen by the world

I'm really happy for her, just hope she doesn't get too stressed!
Does she have any plan in terms of enlarging the family??
Charmander
January 13th,2005, 01:50 PM
I think she says she does want to have children, but her husband Peter works in London and War of the Worlds is being filmed here in the States, so I'm not sure how it will work out...

mmmh distance is a bad thing.. expecially in weddings. but hey, she would be a great mom!
Charmander
January 13th,2005, 03:03 PM
She plays a great mom in the movies, but that isn't exactly reality lol
Eowyn of Rohan
January 13th,2005, 07:15 PM
yes it's quite different! anyway if someone has such a sweet face can't be a bad mom!

*still drolling over the concept of an entire F&E movie*
Hey, a girl can dream!
What movie is she a mom in? *poor stupid, uninformed Leia is at it again*

I absolutely can't believe this!! read what I found on one ring.net:
Miranda Otto Pregnant:
1/13/05, 8:05 pm EST - Xoanon
From ContactMusic: Australian actress Miranda Otto is expecting her first child with actor husband Peter O'Brien. The couple, who married on New Year's Day 2003, are "thrilled", according to a spokesperson. Otto, 37, who starred in as elf Eowyn in LOTR, recently finished filming Steven Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds', in which she plays Tom Cruise's pregnant wife.
We are witches (in the positive sense of the word!) I'm soooo happy for them! :hooray: :hooray:
Charmander
January 14th,2005, 02:49 PM
I am too! I just saw this on theonering.net! We were just talking about this :o! Freaky! But there goes our idea for a real romance between Miranda and David - but I am really happy that they are both happy :hooray: I wonder if its aboy or a girl.

I don't think she does.. as far as I know generally actors don't even try and take a look on the internet! they seem to be scared of it!!
Anyway Miranda should really give it a try..she won't be disappointed!! :) So sad she doesn't have an official site..the ones I know are so rarely updated!
Charmander
January 19th,2005, 02:29 PM
She doesn't keep up her own site - but I got to http://www.miranda-otto.com and that usually has good stuff on it  I know Liv got on-line when she got cast and after our reaction to her appearance at Helms Deep she was a little deterred - as anyone would be ;)
Aletheia
January 20th,2005, 03:17 AM
lol..well Arwen at Helms deep would upset any Tolkien purist so I wonder that she'd be suprised...I mean..Arwen? at Helms Deep??? why would new Line even think of doin that? She is perfect just as the lovely elf bride of aragorn, we dont need her to go all Zena on us! lol But this is Eowyn's thread so i will get back to topic....sorry for the bunny trail!
I found a very nice Eowyn site yesterday, all about her & the significant ppl in her life, I  it!
I will try & post a link as soon as I find it again.....oops! :trout: to me! lol

I think so Leia! I have the impression that she is a pretty shy person! It has to be strange to have so many people you don't even know talking about you like you were their best friend or something..
I won't add any comment regarding Arwen being @ Helm's Deep...someone had the courage to tell me "what's the problem, Eowyn wasn't there either!" :hmppf:

January 21st,2005, 01:41 AM
hehe..true! (I mean no offense to Arwen fans, i luv her too :smooch: )
Stumbled across a bit of E/F  stuff in home today :)
in one of the original manuscripst, Tolkien wrote a bit more about them, saying a bit that Faramir came & stayed in Edoras w/ Eomer & Eowyn untill their marriage, b/c he couldnt bear to be far from her any more
i think it suffices to say i was

Why there're no Faramirs around???
Leia, did you find this info in the "Letters"?
Aletheia
January 21st,2005, 10:11 AM
Actually it was randomly spread about 'The End of The Third Age' (HoME), mostly in Christopher tolkien's commentaries & then a bit from an early draft...& when I read it I was all  veryhappy  :whoohoo: all at once!!!
*melts all over again*
I love Far!!! I agree, why cant their be real life faramirs? mecry
mini-qoute:"...and faramir abode with him, for he would not be far from eowyn any longer..."
awwwwww! he missed her, and he couldnt stand bein away from her! I will never get over this, I know it! *hugs a pillow* i need to go watch the EE F&E scenes again!

Hope it's available here!!

Yup, well, technichally written by JRR, but his son basically compliled all the notes, etc his dad was workin on & then wrote a massive commentary on it....
You can get it at Borders/Barnes & Nobels, though I know www.tolkientown.com has it for less (b/c i am still mad i paid more...lol)

Vision of the Ring

 I fell in love with Eowyn when I saw how much love and compassion she had for Gorny. When Gimli tells her "he fell" and then the look on her face as she tears up and gasps for air... *sigh*.. a guy can only dream of having a girl that cares so...

thank you Alethia!
i got scorned in the Arwen/Aragorn thread because i said i thought Eowyn was perfect for Aragorn. but i meant it in the human sense and because they looked like their ages matched while Arwen looked too young. oh boy did i learn my lesson.
Eowyn is the antithesis of what women's role used to be.. she sort of represents the new age strength and independence of women. she's femininely sensitive, beautiful and caring but fierlessly protectant of her loved ones and questioning the stereotypical roles she was forced upon ("i was told to lead the others into the cave, where's the renown in that?" or something like that). most guys would take Arwen in a heartbeat but she's one of my favorite characters and i'll take her anyday. :p

I'm a huge E/F fan and I love the A/A thread, so I have to defend them to the point that they are very, very serious about A/A. And you can't compete with their knowledge :nono: I don't think they were trying to 'scorn' you, but educate about the reality of what Professor Tolkien envisioned - that Aragorn and Eowyn could never be together because he was destined to be with Arwen - if you've read the Sil or any part of HoME you'll see this affirmed. To be fair, I could never see Eowyn with Aragorn, Faramir is always the perfect guy for her. I'm happy the way it turned out - and this is me getting of the soapbox lol
Rhianon
January 26th,2005, 05:32 PM
 I agree with your Char! I mean Faramir and Eowyn have a more interesting relationship because on the surface it seems like they have nothing in common. Its their backgrounds that make their relationship more realistic and meaningful.
Eowyn of Rohan
January 26th,2005, 09:56 PM
oh that's what a true E/F obsessed says!!
You  Charm And Rhianon! Eowyn and Faramir are soul mates..gosh I have this lame smile on my face again...
Aletheia
January 27th,2005, 04:11 AM
Oh yes! E&F all the way!!!!
For me, the first time I read LotR, I was in 5th or 6th grade, and i was bad & read a bit of the end b4 I actually madeit there, so at first I hadnt caught on to the whole A/A thing & i was totally shipping for A/E..BUT then I read all of it, and as soon as i had made it to the Steward and thr King, I was crossing my fingers for Eowyn to melt into Fara's arms...they were perfect for each other!!! & after reading the appendices & HomE & the Sil...I am in luv w/ A/A as well. I think Tolkien planned it out well..both relationships turn out perfectly.
I think its more meaningful anyway that Eowyn has to fall in & out & in of 'love'. She didnt really understand love at first, really it was admiration, and the desire to be/do something that would pluck her out of the obscurity of her caged soul. I dont think it was a true, selfless love, not like what she recieved (& then returned) from Faramir.
I think their relationship shows the power of a heart changed. It frees her, and she can love, really love. But I am getting really wordy, so Ill shut up now.
*shutting up*

Leia, which volume of HoME you suggest I should buy to read of E/F and A/A?
Charmander
January 27th,2005, 02:04 PM
I like that explanation Leia ! I couldn't have said it better myself!
Eowyn, I think E/F isn't mentioned except in the HoME dedicated to LotR - I think it's 6, 7 and 8...and the letters, he mentions them there.
A/A - with the mention of Beren and Luthien you get a lot in each volume, but it's kind of repetitve  Lady Galadriel has a list somewhere - I think it's in the HoME thread...I wonder if this is helping

Charm.. when i say "scorn" i meant it in the "i deserved it" type way. i KNOW i can't compete with most of your knowledge on Tolkien since i haven't read him yet and was not trying to be "knowledgeable". i thanked them for "educating me". i'm on this site to learn more about Tolkien before i get the privilege to read his works in print.. but that doesn't mean i can't offer my ignoramous opinions on Eowyn/Aragorn. ;)

Thanks Char! :cuddles: I love my E&F!
Um, EoR, I found the most E/F references in The War of the Ring & Sauron defeated (or you could get The End of the 3rd Age, thats just the first part of SD)
I havent read the letters yet :hyper: I want to realllllly bad though!!
Have you guys heard of 'vids'? (do they do that on WotR?) I found a song that would make a good E&F vid :) so I am curious....corse I have no idea how to go about makin one! Im way to technologicaly dense!

Eowyn of Rohan
February 9th,2005, 12:31 PM
On this website http://lotrscrapbook.bookloaf.net/topten/index.html
I found this funny list: top 10 reasons why Eowyn chose Faramir over Aragorn
10.He's available
9. He's not suicidle (Paths of the Dead *cough*)
8. He doesn't wear prissey Elven jewlery
7. Faramir never had to glue HIS sword back together
6. He is a little more realistic about his women (bloody Elves)
5. He wasn't an only child
4. He's also an orphan... now
3. He also has his own kingdom
2. He's a little less depressing (but not by much)
and the #1 reason Eowyn chose Faramir over Aragorn...
1. He's always clean
I laughed so hard!!! lol

Let me think - well 'Flight of the Phoenix' was really good - I really liked 'Love Serende' a very, very different role for her...I have 'Julie Walking Home' - but she has an American accent, so I'm not in love with that move. You see her briefly in 'What Lies Beneath' - she's done a lot more, but that's all I've seen :( I know, my stalking liscense should be revoked :(

Talking abuot Miranda's baby which should be of his/her name?
I love guessing! ;)

I wonder...I'm with you on the stalking though, she is in Aussie - and so are they, well, at least Daisy - but with all their varying schedules it might be interesting to see who else would be there - to stalk...I wonder if they've already picked names.
I want to say that her parents named her after the Shakespearan character Miranda - but I could be really off  lol so I wonder if she and her husband will follow suit ;)

Eowyn - I went to miranda-otto.com (http://www.miranda-otto.com/filmography.php) and found a full listing of her movies. I saw Danny Deckchair over the summer and thougt it was ok - of course Miranda was amazing! I have seen FotP and need to get in gear and buy it ;) Love Serenade is a good movie, she's amazing in that also - the story at the end is a little  What Lies Beneath is a great movie, but not a lot of Miranda in it :( I've heard that Human Nature is good and she's great in it, but I haven't seen it...Haven't been able to see In My Father's DeN or Through My Eyes - but they both sound excellent - hope that helps :)

Hey Char, thanks for your opinions! :) As I told you I finally got Danny Deckchair....it was really sweet and Miranda was gorgeous (no surprise about that!) ;)
I saw what lies beneath and she was quite pretty in there but yes too little on screen :(
no info in the others...I'll keep on searching! :) :)

I just saw a trailer for War of the World!! Way too much Tom Cruise, not nearly enough Miranda!! I was a little confused about what the plot is, but that's because I haven't seen the original...she better have a decent amount of face time...
Eowyn of Rohan
March 21st,2005, 09:48 AM
I saw that trailer too and I'm quite disappointed :nono: ..isn't she supposed to be Cruise's wife? this should be an important role!!
Charmander
March 22nd,2005, 02:41 PM
well - I'll refrain from any commentary about Tom Cruise  but I haven't seen the original - so I don't have much to go on...it looks like it's all about Tom and Dakota - I want more Miranda!!
Eowyn of Rohan
March 23rd,2005, 09:07 AM
Let's be honest, who wants to see Tom and Dakota (that little girl is so good that freaks me out...!) lol we'll go to see that movie only because of her and they cut the shield-maiden?? :nono: if the war of the worlds wasn't about beeing released I'd start a petition!! ;)
Charmander
March 24th,2005, 01:47 AM
I know!! Tom who? Dakota who? I'm in it for the Aussie! Don't worry - she's in it, but it does seem like much :( I guess we'll see when the movie comes out...so long ago...
Eowyn of Rohan
March 24th,2005, 09:34 AM
yeah still ages to WotW release, are you going to spoil yourself?
I'm trying hard not to, but I'm just so curious! ;)
Charmander
March 24th,2005, 02:54 PM
lol - no, I think I'm going to try and hold out - I don't want to go in with high expectations of seeing a lot of our shieldmaiden only to have them dashed to bits ;) I am curious though :)
Eowyn of Rohan
March 25th,2005, 01:58 PM
I have to resist! I have to resist! thanks God I don't have access to the internet in the next days!
Charmander
March 26th,2005, 01:22 AM
I am going to avoid looking too...I think I can hold out - I wonder what she's doing now - these are times when I wish we had access to more Australian media ;)
Eowyn of Rohan
March 29th,2005, 09:25 AM
yes unfortunately our press does not talk about Miranda a lot, but hey finally a good news!
our cinemas will show the flight of the phoenix! at least now I know that its dvd will surely come out!! :)
Charmander
March 29th,2005, 02:52 PM
 that is so awesome! You get to see the shieldmaiden in an interesting role! And she speaks in her native Australian accent  which is so great!! When you get to see it I'm expecting a full review ;) even though I've seen it!
Eowyn of Rohan
March 30th,2005, 09:13 AM
'course I will! even if I think that we'll comment first the war of the worlds!

March 30th,2005, 02:26 PM
I'm just glad we're able to see any of her movies! I was on her site earlier and there is another movie called 'In My Father's Den' and I want to see it, but I don't think it's being released here :( I'll have to keep my eyes open ;)
Eowyn of Rohan
March 31st,2005, 08:22 AM
I think that since it's a New Zelander movie, it will be pretty difficult to find, but we'll manage to... ;)
What about Julie walking home? I read a few reviews and it was well considered, another un-findable one... :nono:
Charmander
March 31st,2005, 01:53 PM
I have Julie Walking Home - it is OK - she was excellent in it  of course. The plot kind of left me wondering a little...but some times I'm not so bright :p
Eowyn of Rohan
April 1st,2005, 10:04 AM
Well I only saw the screencaps and read a few reviews so I can't give you an objective opinion about it...but she looks really amazing!
oh TFotP will be released on 29th of april..can't wait!!
Charmander
April 4th,2005, 03:58 AM
That's less than a month away! I think I'm going to try and get that this week...I do love electronics stores...
It is worth seeing, I guess - we are die hard fans...it should be like one of those cards...a scavenger hunt, where yuo check off things as you go :p It's getting late, may be I'm not making sense lol

Darcey... it's nice I'm certainly glad she didn't go all out and call her Tinkerbell or something equally daft

April 27th,2005, 07:43 PM

Aletheia
April 27th,2005, 07:46 PM
Yeah, she did name her kid Apple  poor kid...can you imagine going through life as a fruit? lol Apple Paltrow....wow.....
At least Miranda picked a decent name!
Eowyn
April 27th,2005, 08:44 PM
Yes and I agree Apple is a silly name for a child
Eowyn of Rohan
April 28th,2005, 09:24 AM

I knew that our Lady wouldn't have named her daughter with some strange name!
Hope that we will get a pic of them soon!
Charmander
April 29th,2005, 02:49 PM
yeah, I couldn't imagine Miranda doing anything outlandish :)
apple  does that mean if she has other childern they'll be named Orange or Banana - how cruel...like kids aren't mean enough already :(
Rhianon
May 3rd,2005, 11:34 PM
:grin:Darcey is a very pretty name! I happen to agree with you when you say that naming a child after a piece of fruit is ridiculous. I always thought that Gwyneth Paltrow was an intelligent person who was very down to Earth. I am however not saying that Gwennie is not smart. I think that naming your daughter Apple is just plain weird.
Eowyn of Rohan
May 4th,2005, 10:24 AM

Eowyn of Rohan
May 30th,2005, 09:51 AM

went to see War of the Worlds yesterday, and despite the tart commentary in the movie section about Miranda here  she was fantastic! Yes she was only in a small portion of the movie :( but overall, it was amazing - I don't think you'll be disappointed at all  very scary though...
Eowyn of Rohan
July 5th,2005, 09:40 AM

Charmander
July 6th,2005, 01:44 PM
:mmmm: never heard of it...but you have a point, we can go back in time and snag some of her older movies ;) though some are a little mediocre...
Eowyn of Rohan
July 6th,2005, 01:46 PM
It's a pity that she was not chosen to be in some good film in her youth! (not that she's too old now, but she's almost in her 40s..)
I was also looking for Julie walking home..but I can't find it anywhere... :-/
Charmander
July 6th,2005, 01:53 PM
Julie Walking Home is ok...it isn't great - of course its great to have that much Miranda, she's in basically the entire movie - but the story is kind of...odd...I'm not sure how better to describe it :p Love Serenade is interesting - and Danny Deckchair is amusing ;) but you're right, she isn't getting any younger :(
Eowyn of Rohan
July 6th,2005, 01:57 PM
Love serenade..heard about that too but..kinda impossible to buy...
Denny deckchair is really cute...she also makes some shieldmaiden expressions!
PS did you notice that Tom cruise has an Eowyn moment in WotW? lol

I couldn't even find this thread, so tried to get another going on our lovely lady! I'll sheepishly take this seat in the corner... lol
I sparked an interest anew with LotR and all its character, first, by re-reading it (round three! with notes this time!) and also by buying a hunky Faramir doll creation. Oh, yes, an Eowyn doll is in mind. I have to find a good place to commission one first. I think I've decided on the Green Gown for the dolly!
Hey, is there any espresso around here? I'm quite the coffee adict!

*takes espresso gladly* Oh, thank you for that! Between this and the latte I had at Mocha's, I'm wired for the week! lol
Sad to say, but I gave away, as part of a trade, the doll I was going to use for Eowyn. :-/ It's OK. I'm getting a free repaint in exchange some of the dollies that I wasn't that fond of to begin!
I will be getting another of the same doll in a week or so, though! Maybe in April I'll be able to submit her for my Eowyn project. I'm excited! I've seen some gorgeous costumes designs for Eowyn, but haven't found a doll repaint that's really looked like Miranda Otto. And, yes, they've been using her as a model! :( Some dolls they us just have the wrong nose completely!
Hey, can I share my dolly passion with you guys and ask if this girl in this auction has any Eowyn potential in her at all? Here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5650107782&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT
I can definitely see her chin. and kind of her nose... is it just me?
At least I'm happily decided upon getting the Green Gown made! lol It'll better match the green/brown in Faramir's Ranger costume.
Ranger of Ithilien
January 24th,2006, 05:48 PM
Its definately her chin, alright! ;) and her nose. :) Yup, I think that'll make a rather good Eowyn. Her lips look a little Wynish too!!
You're getting the green dress made!! :hyper: Your lucky dolly!! :p Yes, that and Faramir's costume will suit just perfectly I think. *sighs* Aw sweet!! ;)
NeatNicki
January 24th,2006, 06:05 PM
Oh, good. whew!! I was beginning to see Mirando Otto in every doll from this company! :-/ Going a little LotR happy! :p Oh, what else is new?
I have to wait til Spring until the artist's schedule clears up a little and I've saved a little more moola for another dolly! (Faramir was expensive!!) When choosing a dolly, I was looking for critical points in order to lessen any facial sculpting (and save me some money! lol) - lips, nose, chin, face shape. I'm glad you think she looks like her! Yay, I think I made a good choice!
Now... do we have any good Wyn discussion ideas? lol
Ranger of Ithilien
January 24th,2006, 10:24 PM
yep, I like the Eowyn dolly very much!!
Any Eowyn discussion ideas? Hmm, :-/ where can we start?? :p

Do you think that she had a love story before Faramir?? (And here I am with my serious question!!! lol )
NeatNicki
January 25th,2006, 05:52 PM
Ooooh, a good topic!! Hmmmm... did she have a previous love story? Besides her infatuation with Aragorn? lol
Actually, come to think of it, I did read somewhere that Eowyn might have been so busy taking care of her ailing uncle and watching over their people in his stead, while her brother was away patrolling the lands, that I think she didn't have a chance for love. I think her surrogate leader role would have taken up all her time and energy that there was no opportunity to meet anyone or have a courtship. She is about 22/23 when she meets Aragorn. Goodness knows how many years Theoden had been dwindling under the influence of Saruman... It does seem though, that a good amount of her "eligible dating years", so to speak, were wasted away.
Ranger of Ithilien
January 26th,2006, 07:06 PM
She had Grima chasing around after her... (poor lass) :p He was definately inflatuated with her. But do you think he loved her?
NeatNicki
January 26th,2006, 07:16 PM
Maybe Grima did love her, in a sick sort of way. It's more like he was an obsessed-stalker. I'd almost forgotten about the Grima problem! So, that would definitely have hindered any time for courtships and relationships! poor Eowyn! :(

Hi fellow Eowyn lovers!
I only have Eowyn-dolly news.... I've commissioned a Green Gown for my dolly that is destined to become Eowyn. She comes complete with boots, staying true to the film-version Eowyn. Once that's done, I'll post it in the photo-forums.
I still have yet to get her repainted. No one's commission-book is open at the moment... but the year is young, still, and there's hope that I'll find someone who will do a good job on her. veryhappy I'm aiming for a Mirando Otto look for the dolly. Anything close would be great!
How's everyone doing in here? :)
