Any fans of the wonderful Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore? Again, it is one of my favourite series of all time.
Salvatore managed to create a story that is unique and he did not need to steal ideas from Tolkien like some other authours seem to do.

no....ive not come across that one.....is that the guy that wrote Damiano ?
and i dont think its really a matter of stealing ideas from Tolkien, as being influenced by him....after all Tolkien himself was influenced by european folktales.....which are the wellsprings of fantasy, its kind of hard for any author not to repeat some ideas...

Yeah, that's true. I just couldn't think of the correct word to use at that time. What I meant was that Salvatore did a really good job of creating a world that didn't make me compare it to Tolkien's Middle-earth. It refreshing to see that some authours are still able to create something totally new and different.

For those of you that have not heard of The Dark Elf Trilogy, or have yet to read it, I will give you a very breif description of the book.
Drizzt Do'Urdan is born into a dark and evil city. His family is no better than everyone else in Menzoberranzan, the dark underground city where the dark elves (Drow) live. From the beginning Drizzt realizes he cannot fit in (he is not evil like his peers) and the books are basically about the troubles he faces with the dark world he was born into. He fights many terrible monsters and finds friends in unexpected places.
Now that will be all I will say. I do not want to ruin the trilogy for eveyone else.
