In Empire magazine I found this:
Running at around 45 minutes longer than the theatrical cut, highlights of the four-disc Two Towers include:
Frodo and Sam descending the rocks of Emyn Muil using the Elven Rope which miraculously unties itself.
The meeting of the Mordor Orcs and the Isengard Uruk-hai who captured Merry and Pippin.
More scenes of Gandalf and Aragorn debating their enemies.
More scenes between Saruman and Wormtongue, discussing Aragorn and Fangorn.
Significantly more scenes between Merry, Pippin and Treebeard, including Ent poetry.
Extra Gollum scenes, including Frodo and Sam’s escape through the sewers of Osgiliath.
Faramir’s flashback, which throws light on his relationship with his father Denethor (who appears for the first time) and brother Boromir (who makes a welcome return).
Helm’s Deep concludes less abruptly, with the appearance of the Huorns (walking trees) who massacre the fleeing Orcs.
With the Return of the King already planned as a three-and-a-half hour theatrical movie (which could mean a four-and-a-half hour extended cut), you’ll have to pull a seriously long sickie to watch all the extended cuts back-to-back.
It's due out on Nov 14, by the way.

I still wasn't 100% sure about the huons. Thanks for verifying that!
I'm also looking forward to the Saruman and Wormtongue scenes.
It's going to be great! :stomper:

I'm glad the huorns are making an appearance as Helm's Deep really lacked something without them.

I had thought that the Smeagol & Deagol bit would be in the extended edition, but I think it's in RotK. does anyone know for sure?
it's too long a wait at the moment for the EDVD when we've got the theatrical version coming out on Aug 26! I'm trying to save up for it - I have enough money at the moment, but I also have the whole summer to spend it! :(

Folks AICN have lsited a load of scenes to be in the Extended DVD.
Here they are
Extended opening, in which the hobbits scale a cliff face using the rope Galadriel gave Sam, including a better build-up to the arrival of Gollum.
- More friction between the Uruk-Hai and the Orcs as they transport Merry and Pippin back to Isengard, which better sets up the fight over food that takes place later.
- More scenes of Saruman breeding his army, creating better pacing as the invasion of Rohan begins
- Terrific scene in which Eomer finds the body of Theodred, Theodens son.
- Additional scenes with Merry and Pippin, including extensions to existing Treebeard scenes and the Ent Draught sequence, in which the hobbits grow. In another scene, Treebeards soporific poetry works its magic.
- Theodreds funeral scene, with Eowyn singing a lament.
- A wonderful introduction to Aragorns horse Brego, who we learn was Theodreds horse. Aragorn requests Brego be set free, which places his later rescue in better context.
- Additional scenes between Eowyn and Aragorn, including one in which he attempts to eat a bowl of evil-looking stew.
- More scenes between Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, which expand upon the films politics (including the union between the two towers Gandalf scene from the trailer, though that line is missing from what I can remember).
- More of Sarumans musings, setting up themes that will be explored in The Return of the King.
- Flashback to the circumstances surrounding Boromir being sent to Rivendell for the Council of Elrond, taking place during the re-taking of Osgiliath by the Gondorian army. This sequence briefly introduces John Noble as Denethor, a major character in The Return of the King. I was worried this sequence would seem like an indulgence, but its difficult to imagine the film without it; not only is the character of Faramir, much maligned by fans of the book, given added depth, so too is Boromir enriched by this addition.
- Just before the Ents storming of Isengard, the Huorns mobilise and leave to attend to business elsewhere; they reappear at Helms Deep to kill the Uruk-Hai as they flee.
- New ending, with Merry and Pippin finding a larder at Isengard, including two barrels of pipe-weed; a hilarious scene in which Gimli and Legolas compare their scores after the battle of Helms Deep; Frodo, Sam and Gollum are shown the way out of Osgiliath by Faramir, who threatens Gollum; theres even a brief moment in which Sam and Gollum appear to make peace.
- Along with all these major additions, many more scenes are subtly extended to give more information or reinforce themes already present.
Well what do you think..?

Sounds good. The whole film should have a better rhythm with these additions as Fotr did with its extentions.

Yeah, they seems to me necessary appropriate additions :whoohoo:
I don't really understand why the NewLine didn't allow a bit longer theatrical cut (as they will do in case of ROTK). Thus such "essential" scenes would be in the movie like the detailing the relationship Faramir and Denethor; or some additional information about Treebeard

I found this in Bernard Hill's interview at the Official Site:
Can you talk about Theoden and his role as a father figure to Eowyn?
After Theoden's resurrection, he's full of self-doubt and self-blame. He thinks he's let his niece down. When he sees her laughing for the first time in ages because she's in love with Aragorn, it's a great delight for him. It's part of the process by which he recovers his true self. It's a big arc that doesn't actually fulfill itself until they ride out of the great hall at Helm's Deep. His relationship with her comes more into play because when they get attacked by the wargs, he comes up to her and says to her, you must take our people to Helm's Deep, 'you must do this for me.' It's important for him that he sees her as being his successor in a way, and it justifies his status as the King of Rohan once again.
This is certainly Character Developement....from the Ext it sounds like!
