I'm going crazy. I don't know if I should buy the August or November copy of the DVD. I only need one, so I should really wait for the November one.. as it has more on it. But I'm not sure if I can wait. I don't really want to copies of it, but then, if I buy the August one.. what will I do with it when the November one comes along!? Gaaah!

I guess the only sane thing is to wait for the November copy. But I want it now!! They are so mean! Why couldn't they release both now!?!? mecry

Personally I'm buying the video, renting the August DVD, and buying the November DVD. (It seems I will have two copies of each film, but oh well).

I'll be paying for all of these myself as well..... guess it'll be a few more months till that car comes along.... lol

They didn't release both now because like all marketers they are intent of making as much money as possible.... and by suckering suckers like me into buying two different versions of the same film, they're doing a darn good job. lol

I've often wondered what I will do with video once I have the November DVD..... why would I want a shorter version? I'd probably never watch it again.... but then again I don't have a DVD player, only a Playstation ( ) so it wouldn't be very conveniant anyways.....

Oh well.

I'm buying both dvd's. And once i get the november dvd i will rotate from August to November when i watch it haha. (Or I will keep it in a cubby for all eternity lol) Surely I can't wait myself, so I'm not going to! I will have enough money on November 12th to get it.

Oh yeah, and its gonna be pretty hard to get your hands on a rental of LOTR right away. People will be swarming. I dont know about you, but our Hollywood video has this crappy guaranteed thing that it will always be on the shelf and it never is lol

Do you know if the original, shorter version of the film will be on the November release as well?? Or will it just be the longer one?

I'm pretty much doing the same thing as Nessa - buying the VHS then buying the extended version DVD in November. I also had the same thoughts as you Nessa bout having the same movie, but i dunno i guess if you want to compare or something lol i dunno!

And Sandybanks... i'm not 100% but i don't think the extended November DVD will also contain the shorter version. I think it's only the longer one. ;)

lol Hobbitfriend!

I suppose the shorter one will have its uses..... I don't suppose anyone I know would want to watch a three and half hour movie about stuff they don't understand as opposed to a three hour one. roflmao

When I first heard about the extra footage I excitedly told my parents.......Their responses were less than thrilled.... ("Oh, as if it wasn't long enough," and "Hobbits singing.... yes that would make it complete I think," followed by  )

I'm afraid I have the same problem! I think that I have made up my mind to buy both and then sell the August one back somewhere like Blockbuster....and of course I'll get them on DVD.

Yes, I have given up on saying anything related to LOTR or related to the actors in it to my family. Because I just feel plain stupid when they roll their eyes at me and then whisper to each other. Ugh

:( Sorry. I'd hate not to be able to say anything about LoTR in my house. My mother saw the movie, and she liked it, and my dad won't see it until the DVD comes out :(

My Mom thinks the movie was great, and my sister saw it with me all 6 times.... but they are getting sick of hearing about it, even though my sister is/was a little obsessed... I'm gald I have all of you to talk to, or I would have gone crazy.

I had already pre-ordered the August copy when I wrote this thread. I decided that I didn't want that though, and instead only buy the November one. So I emailed the place that I pre-ordered it from several times and didn't get an answer. I went away for four days and when I came back (yesterday) I had got the DVD and an email saying that it was too late, but that I could return it if I didn't open it. But who could return a LOTR DVD when you're holding it in your hand!?!?
Of course I couldn't, so instead I went into town today to pay for it and now it's officially mine. I'll buy the November one too though. Obviously. :)

I watched some of the extra stuff on the DVD last night, and I hadn't seen most of it.. so it was great. :) I'm so happy to have the movie at home at last. It feels almost unreal to be able to watch it whenever I want to, to actually own it. Yes, I did have a copy of it on my computer for a few months (I deleted it a while ago), but that's just not the same thing.

I had read somewhere that New Line was thinking of re-releasing FOTR in theaters in November before the release of TTT. Has anyone else heard this? Maybe it was a dream. It sounds too good to be true.

I have never heard this, but I would dearly like to see it in the theaters again.....the full effect, you know. I hope it wasn't a dream, Cal!

I haven't heard anything about it, but I think it would probably be a good thing for them if they did. They would make more money, so why not!? Wouldn't it be great if they showed the longer version in the cinemas!?! :whoohoo: :whoohoo: *overexcited*

i think i heard that somewhere (that they are re-releasing FotR in theatres) but i don't know where i heard it. I also heard somewhere that PJ wasn't sure if he was going to put a (how to describe this...) "pre-view" thingy of FotR to refresh people's memories. But i don't know if they're actually going to do this or not.

Nessa
August 9th,2002, 08:18 PM
???? Pre-view? I guess if its done tastefully it could be okay... but it sounds to me like something off of a daytime soap...

"Previously, on The Lord of The Rings...."

hahahaha lol

You're right Nessa, It would be quite hmmm... 'cheesy' if they did that. Maybe if they just used flashbacks people would understand what happened. But I think people would see the first movie before seeing the second. Otherwise, its just like taking an expert language course, when you dont know a word of the language. lol
