Favorite son of Fëanor

Which of Fëanor's seven sons is your favorite? Mine is Maedhros. He had potential to be a great leader of his people except for that stupid oath. Running a close second is Maglor. Basically a nice guy (erm, Elf) he helped Elrond and Elros. My least fav are Celegorm and Curufin. Not only were they mean, but their antics in Nargothrond messed up Maedhros' plan to take out the armies of Morgoth in the Fifth Battle. Which is your favorite?

My opinion exactly...It's easy to like Maedhros ang Maglor,the were disent Elfs,who were doomed because of their devotion to their father....And it's even easier to hate Celegorm and Curufin,who were arrogant cowards...

I think i like Maglor because in the end, he persuaded Maehdros to forget the oath and insisted upon not taking action upon taking back the Silmarils... because of this, i say that Maglor's my favorite son of Feanor...
Because of Maedhros, they lost the Silmarills permanently to the ground and to the sea...

Ecactly Las, i think that maedros real down fal was pride, he is a very proud character, just as galadriel was, and he did have a sort of wisdom though, he knew that they would not get the Sils back in Vlinor, and he feared they would be still driven by the oath.

another thing i think, is that the oath was more of an actual FORCE , not quite but likened to the ring's force, so much so that tolkien in the tale of years given an actual DATE for when torment of unfullfillment falls upon the brothers....

Because I always saw much resemblance between Tolkien's mythology and the Greek mythology, the Silmarils and the Oath always reminded me of the Pandora Box - a master who was obsessed with his creations (Feanor) and was punished gravely for it (the Oath and it's meanings).

All the cr@p kinda flew out of it......I've been obsessed with Greek mythology long before LOTR came into my life too.... Prometeus have similar lines with Maedhros actually, all the chaining to the rocks and stuff.....

oh yeah cool!!! and i suppose manwe is like Zeus (minus the multiple ....."wives" :rolleyes: ) and Poisidon is like ulmo...hey, i found myself saying Poisidon instead of ulmo once.... and mandos is like hades....

prometheus just happens to be the coolest character too, not a hero per se, but a total wise and selfless character...

Theseus, Perseus, and heracles would be somewhere amoung Turin, Hurin, Tuor, then.... Orpheus is Beren!!! or Maglor.... hmmmmmm lol lol

Of course I like Maedhros and Maglor. :grin: They are some of my favorite characters in the Sil. If I were to choose one from the other it would be difficult.

I like Maedhros because he is the eldest and the wisest. If only he wasn't bound by the stupid Oath, he would have led a different life.

Maglor was skilled in Music, and that's one reason for my love for him. I liked him especially when he urged Maedhros that they should abandon the Oath. He also took care of Elrond and Elros because his heart was sick with the dreadful Oath.

I also like Maedhros and Maglor. When the cruel servants of Celegorm kidnapped Dior's sons, Maedhros looked long and hard to try and find them.

yup, VERY good fanfic material if you ask me... and i think that if the oath was never taked bu t the noldor still rebelled, even the ones with bad reps would have been really cool, and Tolk tries to point out in an essay a part in which he tried to show another side to Curufin..... i want all this in my fanfic too...

I've noticed something in the Sil: they say that Caranthir is even a bigger jerk then Celegorm and Curufin :o That was quite a shock....

He may have been quick to anger, but he did not perform cruel acts the way Celegorm and Curufin did. At least you knew where you stood with him. Unlike those smooth-talking brothers of his.

he was just selfish and self serving....... at least that is how i present him in my fanfic, Curufin and Celegorm get to this point of sheer evil, were they dont even have the Oath as an excuse.......

lol smooth talking brothers, ......Curufin was a master of that, thats why i like to think of him with snakeish green eyes, subtle as a serpent and twice as unpredictable ;)
