I think there was an article on TORN about this. I think the soundtrack will be out December 10th. Yes, there will be a special edition that will supposedly have a second disk with the new music recorded for the extended FotR!

Hi Steff! Great to meet you! A hobbit enthusiast? Great! (Me, too!)
I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but I'm going to go ahead and merge this thread, combine it with one that already exists. ;) I'm sure someone will be sure and answer. :)
Well, I've done it, and from reading through the thread it is apparent that no one is sure. One poster replied that it might come out Nov. 4 in Australia, but thats all that seems to be known.
If you're very interested, there is another soundtrack thread (with 'more details') in this forum.

I wonder how many of the melodies from the fellowship will be incorporated into this soundtrack. They'll probably keep the same hobbits tune at least.
Ronin
November 17th,2002, 01:45 PM
yeah, at least...from the title tracks...doesn't look like anything is "lifted" from the Fellowship soundtrack...so we'll probably just get some hints.
Orkybash
November 18th,2002, 06:51 AM
I have a feeling a lot of the same themes are gonna be there. And some of the same passages that were repeated note-for--note in Fellowship (like the theme it plays when someone's tempted by the ring) will probably pop up in this one. But there shouldn't be any really long section that's the exact same as Fellowship's soundtrack!

November 18th,2002, 03:03 PM
what do you guys think, will they write new music for the Uruk-hai in helms deep, or will they use the same theme from the shores of Anduin??

November 18th,2002, 11:26 PM
Ithielnor, i think entirely new music will be created...and Orky, agree there....some repetitive sequences, but over all..new material.

Here are the lyrics to Gollum's Song . . it sounds interesting.
Where once was light
Now darkness falls
Where once was love
Love is no more
Don't say goodbye
Don't say I didn't try
There tears we cry
Are falling rain
For all the lies you told us
The hurt the blame
And we will weep to be so alone
We are lost we can never go home
So in the end
I'll be what I will be
No loyal friend...
was ever there for me
Now we say goodbye
We says "you didn't try"
These tears you cry
Have come too late
Take back the lies
The hurt the blame
And you will weep...
when you face the end alone
You are lost you can never go home
You are lost you can never go home

I downloaded the enitre TTT Soundtrack a long time ago - 2 weeks I think. Put it on a CD and listened to it over and over. Gollum's Song is my favorite. Its so sad.... I'm a sucker for the strings in the song.
I downloaded all the music from Kazaa. The person who put it up gave the songs in excellent condition - you should try it.

I found the soundtrack in a record shop today. I was really surprised to find it there already. I didn't have any money to buy it, and I didn't have time to listen to it, unfortunately, but I did look at the names of the songs etc. Seems promising. :)

Grr I'm so angry with myself. I saw it in the shops today (I thought it wasn't out till tuesday?) and thought I'll buy it later once i take some money out. ah i got it today. its pretty good. i thought that Torrini song was pretty bad. awful compared to enya, and not so great anyway. well i can say more after ive seen the movie i suppose. my first impression is that its nowhere near as good as fotr soundtrack.
not that its bad or anything! i like it... i just happen to love the fotr track

*sighs*...once again, another lovely report from our dear Tar. ;) lol
personally, this is more of a musically sound ...soundtrack than TTT. there's a greater depth to everything.
and love Gollum's Song...more resonance than May it Be, which was nice, (and i like Enya) but way too poppy for me.
hopefully the closing credits will be just as fulfilling as FOTRs...but more so.

I dont mind Gollum's song, it does grow on you and when you actually imagine gollum when listening to it, you can see the connections. I agree with Tar that it isn't as good a fotr's soundtrack but that does not mean its bad in a long shot. Once i've seen the film and know what's happening whilst the music is playing then i should be able to connect with it more.
p.s. you can vote for your fav song in the music forum.

as for 'musically sound' i agree that its more ... how can i say, classic than fotr... but my tastes dont always agree with the rest of the world... i think ttt soundtrack is less enjoyable...
well i dont have that much against gollums song itself, i just cant stand the way that woman sings. *shakes herself* ok its better than britney spears
poppy? poppy?! erm interesting word choice. poppy is the thing farthest from my mind when i listen to enya....
eh i never said its bad. i just dont like it as much.

I got my limited edition soundtrack yesterday. There isn't as much variety on this score as there was in FOTR. TTT's score is darker, more unified. I love "Forth Eorlingas" and "Evenstar". I finally got the special online features of the CD to work today. The "Behind the Scenes Making of the Score" video and "Score Music Video" are not even working yet--the site says they are "coming soon."
I, too, want to see the movie to understand how the film and music interact. Then some of the pieces that just sound all base and drums and cymbals will have more meaning for me.
Ronin
December 12th,2002, 02:59 AM
well, of course...*coughs*...they're appreciated
tho as for not enjoying...classics...well...too each their own ;) lol
now for enjoyment, i did enjoy the fotr soundtrack much more than ttt's on intial listening without having the movie for visual's sake. however...the amount of time that i've listened to it has increased my expectation much more so than fotr...the depth and violence of the score is so resonant..."musically sound" as we both agree...a greater whole than fotr's disjointed parts.
let me define poppy - i.e. light and very popular. enya is lovely, i'm a great fan...but for me, very light...background music. Gollum's Song...well, lets just free flow....
.....so sonorous...haunting, whisps of mists...Mordor...strings are so haunting, teasing of past hope...lost fortune and innocense...i love the use of English...so jarring...but the lyrics...simple...but gives voice to Tolkien's greatest figure...."can never go home"...Smeagol truly is gone...then the Fellowship theme once again...so resonant, regal...trumpets so powerful and majestic...hope even when there is none...when there should be none.
hehehehe...no accounting for taste ;) lol

I really like the soundtrack. Its hard to compare to the FOTR soundtrack. Like the movie its different. I don't really have a favourite track yet. I really like Evenstar and Breath of Life.
Loved the hardinger used for the Rohan music - perfect choice. Really liked Foundations of Stone in particular in the film when you see the Balrog and Gandalf falling into the underground cavern from a distance. Loved that scene and the music to go with it.
Question. In the booklet there's three passages: The Ents, Gollum's Song, and The Missing.
Can someone tell me where The Missing is in the soundtrack? From the words and the fact its in Old English (not Sindarin or Quenya) I assume its about Eowyn (though I could be mistaken) but I haven't worked out where it is yet. I've had the soundtrack for less than a day ;)

I've been wondering this, too. I wondered if it is a missing (no pun intended) scene we will see in TTT SE.
Iarfirithwen
December 28th,2002, 12:05 PM
Actually theres a choral line at the end of Helms Deep, I think its the bit that coincides with Gimli telling Eowyn that Aragorn fell.. I wonder if thats a line from it? (Its gorgeous - a wonderful moment, though unfortunately only a moment) It would only be a line from it mind you.
lol Bess. You might be right. I was just thinking though (*gasp*) that surely the verse has to be in there somewhere because on the same piece of paper is the track listing. Surely if that scene and piece of music was cut from the list they would've cut the corresponding verse +translation??? Though you never know. maybe a bit of its there....maybe that one line in Helms Deep is it
==
Nop. I got that wrong. According to the Soundtrack.net (http://soundtrack.net/features/article/?id=100)article:
"After that, the cue rounds out with another solo from Elisabeth Fraser (veteran of the first score), correlating to what the liner notes call a "tragic elvish moment at the Battle of Helm's Deep". Hmm."
Iarfirithwen
January 3rd,2003, 11:28 AM
Okay I just saw it again (purely for research purposes of course ;) )and I made sure I was familiar with the relevant tracks beforehand. Anyway it turns out my original hunch was right.
That choral piece at the end of Helms Deep (12) is the bit where Gimli has just told Eowyn that Aragorn fell. The piece that represents Haldir's Death (if that's what Soundtrack.net meant by 'a tragic Elvish moment') Is actually the very first bit of Isengard Unleashed (17), which is followed by Aragorn going troppo and jumping into the Urak Hai before you get to the Ent march etc. So now I can go back to wondering if that choral end to helms Deep is a line from "The Missing"??? If you have no idea what I'm talking about (that's okay, sometimes I don't either ;)) just go back up a couple of posts.

I have to say, that i think that TT soundtrack is better than FOTRs. My faivorites are Gollum's song (really nice) and Isengard Unleashed and Breath to life but they all are very beuatiful and I say sad too.. I just like that soundtrack but I can't listen it very offen because I just start crying.. :'(

has anyone got the special edition? 'cos gollum's 'fish song' is supposed to be on there - the one he sings when he's in the forbidden pool. plus the additional music from fotr extended edition is definitely featured.
my favourite tracks from ttt normal soundtrack are 'evenstar', 'breath of life', 'helm's deep', and 'forth eorlingas' - the latter is just simply stunning and makes me want to cry everytime i listen to it. howard shore has surpassed himself and he can only go on to do even better with the rotk score.

It makes me kind of sad in a way though when I listened to it. I really don't know what it is but every time I hear I have the same feeling.

I was impressed enough with Howard Shore's contribution to the movie (the soundtrack) that I bought it. The music is great! Beyond "Gullum's Song" (which rund durring the credits) there are two other songs that are trandlated out of Sindarin and Old English. The snag is that it doesn't say which tracks they are part of. Does anyone know where in the soundtrack "The Ents" and "The Missing" are?
Orkybash
January 17th,2003, 12:32 AM
"The Ents" occurs in Isengard Unleashed, I think around the two-minute mark. "The Missing" is from Helm's Deep, but I'm sot sure exactly when.
If you want more info on the soundtrack lyrics, I'd go to http://www.elvish.org/gwaith/movie.htm and click on "Soundtrack: a linguistic survey"

Orkybash, YOU are an absolute treasure. :cuddles:
Turns out my guess was right then  :whoohoo: (It just seemed to fit because the words seemed to about Eowyn and it was Old English which also fitted). It was the only part that had a decent vocal bit over Eowyn.
Its just two lines of "the Missing" overshadowing the part where Gimli has just told Eowyn that Aragorn fell
Héo dréag šį losinga [3.26]
Earla šinga še héo forléas. [3.35]
Which translates into:
"She felt the loss
Of everything that had been missed."
Its taken me a while to match it even while reading it while listening to that soundtrack. Oh I'd love to hear the whole verse sung. Its so beautiful, both the words and way those two lines are sung and its about Eowyn one of my favourites (if anyone hadn't guessed by now).
