I think I want to pre-order Two Towers from a website here in the Netherlands, because I'll get in on the day of release and it's pretty cheap. But I wonder if it has any disadvantages, like if you get anything extra besides the DVD if you go get it at the store (aside from store-specific things like discounts).

I don't think there are any disadvantages to orderering it online. Where are you gonna pre-order it?
(Welkom op deze forums trouwens Pieter Arthur  )

I prefer pre-ordering too... :) The most important thing is to get the DVD as fast as possible lol

It's called Free Record Shop, you may have it in Belgium too. In fact it could very well be an American chain :). I'm going to pre-order it from www.freerecordshop.nl.
@Steve: I hear you :D

if you have it ordered to you won't you have to pay handling costs? the reason i didn't preorder was because i'll get it later if i preorder by mail.... unless i go to the store directly for pick-up...
also, there are savings (at least for certain stores) if you preorder i think....

The website's TTT DVD product page said that if you pre-ordered there you would receive the DVDs on the day they are released, which I presume (hope) is 26 August for The Netherlands just like the US. So I don't have to do anything and they'll arrive automatically as soon as they're available  (as least that's my plan...)

Well! My fellow forum readers, have I got news for you!
I went out shopping today (to buy a box of tea bags to be exact) and I was pushing my shopping trolley around the shop when I saw a display of LoTR videos.
I thought they were The Fellowship videos out on display, but when I got closer I noticed they were "The Two Towers". I picked the video box up and stared at it! I thought to myself, there is probably a sign somewhere saying 'cannot be purchased until 26th August', but there was no sign to be seen! So sheepishly I put the box cover in my trolley and went to the check out to pay for my goods. The lady on the till swipped the price through and called for an assistant to go and get the film.
I said to her "I didn't think they were on sale until 26 August, that's what all the advertisements say elsewhere". She replied, "We can sell them now and you get a choice of a free book to go with it".
So folks, not only have I got "The Two Towers" video before the advertised date, and quite legally too, but I also got a companion book to go with it.
So if there are any people reading this post who are in the UK, nip on down to your local Morrison's store, cos you will find it (and this includes the DVD) already on sale!
Oh by the way! I have already watched it and it is just as good as when I went to see it at the cinema!

That sounds great!!! lucky you, Rosolas =) in the States, i do not think they're out yet...
Narsil--as the date comes closer, i'm soo tempted to pre-order.. but the shipping business is tricky for me because i'm departing for college soon and dont' want to wait couple of days
and it seems to me if i preorder it from Barnes and Noble, it wants to ship to me...
but we'll see... maybe i'll just jump up first thing on Tuesday to get it lol
:whoohoo:

Sounds like the DVDs are already widely available, at least in the UK. I sure hope I won't end up getting them even later than 26 August, or they'll be in the store's and I'll still be waiting for mine. They're only even going to put them in the mail after they receive my payment which I mailed yesterday but they might not receive that until monday or even tuesday and then they'll send it the day it comes out and I'll get it late next week in stead of Tuesday 26th and I'll have to wait even longer and that would be so hard... :P
Anyway I'm very happy for all of you who got lucky :)
I'm going to try to resist downloading the whole preview but I will probably fail ;)

There is one particular disadvantage to pre-ordering the TT dvd. Everybody else has bought theirs early from the shops but I'm still waiting for mine....mecry
