The battle in Gladiator was amazing! Only too short....The sea-battle in the new movie Master and Commander - The Far Side of the World is going to be something else too!:whoohoo: POTC had some cool sea-battles too, and Jean of Arc with Mila Yoyovich was full of big fights!

And how do you like the opening battle in "Saving private Ryan"?
(However, it was in a modern war...)

What about Spartacus or Ben Her those are classic ones and fun to watch. But a new really good one was from the Tv movie Caesar it was 40,000romans vs 250,000 barbarians in it. But it still didnt have that huge feeling like lotr battles do but it was still good.

thats to bad it was really good especially for a TV movie I wish it was a real full on epic motion picture then it would have been even better. cause it only had like a 25million budget so they could only do so much but if it was like a 125million budget then it would have been like gladiator or braveheart.

I thumbed through my DVD collection and found that there are not really that many movies with huge battles. Braveheart, Gladiator, Excalibur. Many other period films have small one on one (no more than 20 people total) fights like Rob Roy or The Three Musketeers. I guess battles are really expensive to do and hard to get right. I used to think Excalibur had some really cool battles, but after movies like Gladiator they just fall flat.

The Messenger had some pretty brutal battle scenes in it also. But then again having a woman like Milla Jovovich in full plate and swinging a sword always gives me a funny feeling in my tummy

Yes, I loved the part when those big stone balls were being thrown down the shoots and ploughing into the French.

In Ben Hur, in the Horse "Ride" at the Circus Maximus (I think) the big place they had a Horse ride.. 125 horses died during thoes scenes... Just a little reminder.
My favorite battle in other movies are (Just saw this)

I don't usually care for battle scenes in movies. Especially old movies, because they just seem to be messy and uncoordinated. My favorite battle scenes now are - the whole movie of Black Hawk Down, and the shoot-out scenes in Open Range. They were very realistic. I hate when shoot outs have all the bad guys walk straight into the line of fire, and all the good guys miraculously avoid injury. How absolutely dumb do they think we are.
