ok her other name is Megan Lindholm.

I read the Farseers at easter and it was brilliant but the Liveship triology wasn't as good in my opinion. I've heard good things about the new books though. erm... the tawny man triology I think!

My favourite character is the fool! She's brilliant! ;) I wish I had a talent for confusing and mocking people so easily. lol

I actually prefered Liveship Traders to Farseer, because the story was much more complex and far-reaching. in Farseer, it was mostly Fitz trying to survive Regal, and help Verity. It was also VERY bleak. But it was a masterpiece nevertheless.

Liveship Traders focused on a few characters and the execution of the plot was superb, even though Wontrow had shades of Fitz, and Althea was plain irritating.

I've read the first book of her new series The Tawny Man saga, titled Fool's Errand. its not as bleak as Farseer, though Fitz is still moody as ever. :) Its pretty good, and I'm really looking forward to Golden Fool.

I also happen to think Fitz ranks with Feist's Pug as one of the best developed fantasy characters around. :)

yes I agree that the characters are well developed. I'm going to start reading the tawny man series at christmas since a i have the fool's errand but one of my friends parents is going to lend me the golden fool

Eowyn
October 20th,2003, 04:12 PM
well I'm reluctant to start reading them till the third one is out because Ithink it's a bit of a cliff hanger. wel the two people i know that have read it are eagerly anticipating the next one lol

Eyeris
October 20th,2003, 04:21 PM
A cliffhanger? argh... but Fool's Errand didn't have much of a cliffhanger...

well, the good thign is that at least she doesn't take as long as Jordan or Martin to come out with her books, so the wait won't be THAT agonizing

Eowyn
October 21st,2003, 06:33 PM
well I'm not sure how bad it is the commetns I got suggested they were somewhat reluctant to wait. lol Althogh they don't normally end with cliff hangers so I guess we'll find out when we get there.... that'll be christmas for me I guess

Well, Farseer and Liveships books tended to end with cliffhangers as well... good thing i only got them AFTER everything was released. Will still read Golden Fool first. I'm a sucker for new books. :)

Eowyn
October 26th,2003, 05:20 PM

Eyeris
October 29th,2003, 07:56 AM

Aw, crud. Not fair. I'm eargerly awaiting Fools Fate, but am not sure if it has been released in England yet. At least, it wasn't in the bookshop when I was there last week . Has anyone read the short Hobb story that was in the Legends anthology? I really want to read it, but am not gonna buy an entire book for one short story.

Eowyn
January 1st,2004, 02:00 AM
no I haven't read it.

and Fools Fate is out in England but it's the hardback version. I should know. I can't walk into a book shop without seeing it and dragging myself away so I can't read anything that might spoil the other two.

I love all of these books too. Usually I hate first person books but I quickly got hooked - Fool's Fate was a fantastic ending.

apologies for the double post but I've now read the first two books of the Tawny man series and I'm tearing my hair out waiting for Amazon to send me my copy of the Fools Fate. They expect it to arrive anytime from tomorrow but I've checked my account and they say they haven't dispatched it yet!

WOW! Other Robin Hobb fans!!! I hadn't expected to find any here, but I guess anything's possible, huh? I read Fool's Errand and The Golden Fool first, not knowing about the Farseer Trilogy. Then I went back and read that trilogy. I LOVE these books!!! I've read Ship of Magic, but I haven't had a chance to read the other two books in that series yet, and I have to wait until I can get back to the States to buy Fool's Fate (which is killing me....no pun intended). I didn't think that Ship of Magic was as good as her other books, but it made a lot of sense to me in a way because I am a Sailor, and to read about that poor girl who wanted to be with her ship, but couldn't, just broke my heart. I can't say that I really blame the boy for not wanting to be there under those conditions, but it is an unfathomable concept for me that anyone in the world could have seen the ocean and not be called by it.

I can't wait to read Fool's Fate now!!!!! :wiggle:

November 1st,2004, 06:14 PM
EC you haven't read Fool's Fate? how can you have read the other two and not finished the series? That would have killed me! I had to wait a month as it was :o

I agree that the Ship of Magic isn't as good but I love Althea she's a great character. The liveship series gets a bit better and the third book is definately the best of the three in my opinion. :)

I will be able to get Fool's Fate soon, and believe me, it IS killing me!!! :stomper:

I LOVE the doggy riddle in Assassin's Apprentice!!! I got it stuck in my head the other day as I was walking home from work, and I was laughing the whole way! As soon as I get to a bookstore that actually has books in English, I'll be found in a corner buried in Robin Hobb books until I can finish all three trilogies. :read:

Eowyn
November 7th,2004, 12:47 PM
lol that sounds like an excellent plan lol

and I love that riddle to... unfortunately I can't remember it word for word anymore.. could you post it if you can remember it please?

Erebwen Cristaer
November 7th,2004, 01:46 PM
I don't remember it word for word either...It's been a while since I read it, but I'll try...

Fitz fixes fiest's fits, fat suffices.

Is that it? :)

Eomund
November 8th,2004, 01:45 PM
where was it in the book???

Eowyn
November 8th,2004, 11:52 PM
I think that's it Erebwen ;)

Eomund I can't remember where it is exactly... when Fitz visits the duchess lady with the small dog that chokes on something and he convinces her to do something... about jewellery that helps the kingdom? oooh that's sketchy it's been a very long time since I read the Assassin's. I must read them again at some point.

Erebwen Cristaer
November 9th,2004, 09:37 AM
Yeah, but before he even meets the Duchess, the Fool is the one who finds him outside the castle, and at first it doesn't make any sense at all....It's like 'Fitz, fitz, fits fitz, fusses.' Or something like that, and then the Fool repeats it several times and every time he says it it starts to make more sense until the real riddle comes out. The funny thing is, if you're not paying attention at the part with the Duchess, you might almost miss that the riddle is coming true because she doesn't use the same words. You just have to tie in the events between the riddle and what actually happens. Maybe that's why I like it so much!

Eomund
November 9th,2004, 09:46 AM
now i remmber it...thanks, the fool makes good predictions..

Erebwen Cristaer
November 16th,2004, 01:57 AM
Ok...I found it. It's in Assassin's Apprentice, chapter 7, page 132 (or thereabouts).

"Fitz! Fitz fix fice fitz. Fat sfizes."

After sever repetitions, it eventually turns into...

"Fitz fixes feists fits. Fat suffices." :)

Sorry for the 'double post' (though I don't know if it would be considered so after such a long time?) I just finished reading 'Fool's Fate' and I cried my eyes out! :mecry: It ended well, though not the way I expected. WOW! What a GREAT series!!!! I want to go back and read the whole thing again.

I want to talk about the book with others who have read it, but I don't really want to spoil it for people who haven't read it yet and want to........*bursts at seams....* :stomper:

Eomund
December 30th,2004, 10:05 PM

Eowyn
December 31st,2004, 07:39 PM
I've read it and I cried so much! mecry
I bet you expected it to end the way I did. I was very surprised by the ending and I still love the Fool!
You think you're bursting at the seems I finished it over the summer so I'm glad someone else finally has!
Maybe we should put a warning somewhere if we're going to discuss it or a thread for those that have read all three Robin Hobb Triologies so that they know what to expect.
