So I hear that Sam will look more of a hero than Frodo by the end of TTT, and certainly into ROTK. If you havent read this look on the main page.

Obviously, they are going to make Frodo even more changed than shown in the books... I do think sam is just as good a hero as Frodo and (maybe, just maybe) Gollum; though I'd have to think harder about him...

So how do you think they will portray this? I really hope the have the part where Frodo says: "Give it to me! Give it to me at once!" and "No you wont, you theif!" to sam when he tries to help after finding Frodo in Mordor. I am looking foward to the transformation Elijah has to give to his character. It will be quite interesting!

You know, Sam was protrayed as more of a ... well, Bumpkin ... in the books you might say. I don't think the part of Sam in the movie is played quite as closely as the character in the book (same goes for Frodo ...). The transformation of Sam into a "hero-type" I fear will be less pleasing in the movie due to the shallow nature of the cinematic character. Think about how you feel about the literary Sam and then see if you feel different about the cinematic Sam ... Anybody else feel this way?

i dont know about less pleasing, Algamesh....i think for me perhaps more pleasing....youre correct about the book Sam being a bumpkin, but i like the fact that the movie Sam has a little more nowce....im pretty sure the book Sam had no idea what hed gotton into, but the movie Sam does, and does it anyway....yeah, itll be less dramatic a transformation, but then, the animated Bakshi LOTR played Sam as in the books and it drove me insane!!.....two hours of "ooooh arrrrrrr mr Frodo sirrr" yipes!!!
i liked the fact that even if he was just a simple gardener, the movie gave Sam some dignity....

wat i didnt like about the movie, was that the relationship between Frodo and Sam just didnt seem as close as it was in the book. Thing is because of that I didnt think it was developed enough. I hope it gets better in TTT coz its that relationship which turns Sam into the hero in the books coz he cares so much about Frodo.

Actually, Undomiel, I think Frodo and Sam's relationship in the movie was different, but not less, than in the book. Their relationship in the movie was more like that of two friends than that of a servant and his master. (At least thats it in the start of the book) But thats just my (rather nonsensical) opinion. :)

Which will be the hero? I want Sam to be shown as a hero... but I don't want poor Frodo thrown over, you know? If Jackson's talking about switching the focus over to Sam, completely I mean, I shall be very upset.

I was a little upset about what i read though, he was saying that the audience might turn all their attention to sam, because frodo is going to be sooo...... - different. I'm afraid they will start to think that the task is Sam's and not Frodo's. Is anyone as worried as I am?

But the relationship between Sam and Frodo will get better for sure, just the little blips I have seen make me sure of this!

(BTW - my opinion on this has nothing to do with me having Frodo as a fav. character. Incase you thought that)

Well...personally I don't really think that Sam will take over "everything"!
Frodo is a main character since FOTR and TTT, Peter Jackson is unlikely to change that!
But I think PJ is certainly going to change the plot into something more...to his way. I think.
And about Frodo and Sam, I think PJ is going to portrait them more as friends that help each other out(or some ppl will think of something else, u know...), and i don't know about showing Sam's loyalty...I think PJ will just strengthen what is already there in FOTR

...Just personal opinion :)

I don't think Frodo will be completely forgotten or anything. I reckon PJ will try hard to make sure Frodo's struggle over the ring is also shown as heroic-plus he's v. brave in Shelob's lair with Galadriel's phial. I definitely wouldnt want it to look like Sam was the only heroic figure. They are both heroic really it's just Sam's efforts are the more obvious ones. Frodo's heroism is more subtle i guess.

i think those remarks about Frodo being less a hero by the end were aimed more at the Tolkien virgins than those who have read the books and know how the story ends...anyone who hadnt read it may very well imagine that Frodo trots up Mt Doom and chucks in the ring...end of story....but we know its not that simple....tho in a lot of movies it would be...i think its just a way to prepare folks for an ending thats unusual by most movie standards...
