Why did Peter Jackson feel the need to first of all make Faramir so mean in the movie, and second make them go to Minas Tirith. In the Book Faramir lets Frodo Sam and Gollum go at the hidaway.

Faramir isn't mean. He's doing his duty.
Movie Faramir:
1: PJ utilized a small aspect of Faramir's charcter in the book (his tragic relationship with his father) as hs main characteristic in the film. He did this because it facilitated his simplification devices ("the weakness of Men" and the exaggerated threat of the Ring) as well as the padding needed for the movie. (see #2)
2: Because elements of TTT's story were shifted to the other two films PJ needed to pad out the movie. He chose to give Frodo a visually impressive sequence that could compete with the visuals in the other two storylines.
Like it or hate it, that's why he did it.

I think we should wait for the Extended Edition DVD, I'm sure PJ/FW/PB will explain it all in detail. They know we are wondering (and more in some cases ;) ).

It seems like when the ringwraith saw frodo in osgiliath with the ring that all the wraiths would come and they wouldnt stop trying to get frodo but it showed the fellbeast fly away like it just forgot about it all. Isnt that there whole purpose to find the ring, and one of them did but then it just got shot by one little arrow and then stoped and flew away. That was a little off what it should be.

The other Ringwraiths couldn't get there instantly. And a flying beast shot in the chest by an arrow is going to have a difficult time staying aloft. It's lucky it wasn't killed.

Ok faramir just shot one little arrow into its chest and a fell beast its like bigger then a cave troll and how many times did legolas shot an arrow into the cave troll. One arrow would not even wound a fell beast at all you could barley even see it in its chest it was so small. So it just seemed like the fell beast would have kept on trying to get frodo.

In the book Legolas kills a Fell Beast with a single arrow from across a river. They are not invincible nor are they cave trolls. How would getting killed help it to obtain the Ring?

First off, Frodo was feeling compelled to put on the ring because, I think, the ring itself was driving him, trying to be found. I wasn't the Nazgul. The Nazgul was still unable to see Frodo clearly. But Sam stopped Frodo in time and moved him out of sight and smell, and the arrow just startled the fell beast and made him buck away, like a whip on a horse, or a wasp sting on yourself.

I guess so I dunna know, it doesnt really matter. Its not to big a deal.

Right-o. It's not a big deal - I'm just a good rationalizer of all sorts of minute details. I'd get a square peg in a round hole even if I had to re-whittle it!
Besides, it's fresh in my mind what a wasp sting feels like. One got me while I was trimming hedges and you should have seen the hedge trimmers fly! And I couldn't think of going back to my work for quite some time.

I have a question about Minas Tirith. Now in the rotk preview it shows gandalf ride up to Minas Trith on shawdowdax and we see the Pelennor Fields and Minas Tirith but theres no rammas echor (most outer wall is ten legues long and encloses the pelennor field was rebuilt in time for the war of the ring but did little to stop Saurons armies.) I would be mad if it wasn't in the movie it would be cool to see men fight upon the walls and watch the gates be broken through it would add more suspense and action to the battle . But theres some screen shots of the rotk video game and this looks like it might be it.

I think that PJ decided to Faramir so mean in the movie because Faramir had just lost his brother and saw him floating down the river dead. He had questions in his mind and he wanted them to be answered. I also think that the ring made him capture Frodo and Sam even though he did not know that Frodo had it. Lets just say it had an influence on him. Well thats what I think!

I read TTT after seeing it, so it didn't really bother me. I just have two versions of Faramir in my head ;).

Well in the book, he spoke to them and then let them continue their journey. In the film, he took them to Osgiliath. Thats why I say that he wasn't mean.

Aragorn's Hope

I think once we get to know Faramir we realize or rerealize [for those that have read the books before the movies] That Faramir is like Aragorn in a way. I mean check this out next time you watch the movies and your get what I'm saying...
1. They can both seem to be moody when upset or scared about something
2. Even though they seem mean to the hobbits at first they as time goes on we see them both deeply care for them
3. They both save the hobbits lifes more than once.
Anyone else see what I'm getting at?
