Oh, I just read the sad news about Ian Holm on the home page. I so appreciate him as an actor and as the perfect Bilbo. I did get a chance to see The Emperor's New Clothes a week or so ago and other than being a bit slow in the first half, I loved the adorable relationship beween Ian's character and the woman he settled in with. I cannot believe he is as old as seventy, because I found him very sweet and romantic in this movie. It was not a comedy after all, but rather maudlin (sp?).
But this is definitely an Art House movie, and yet, visually, if not as rousing and exciting, just as well made as The Count of Monte Cristo. Anyone else an Ian Holm Appreciater?

Can't tell ya about "The Emperor's New Clothes", but I can say that I've seen "The Emperor's New Groove." Loved that one. Sorry, I haven't seen the other. Just felt a little sorry that no one has posted here yet, so I decided to.

I haven't seen the film you've mentioned, either, but you asked if anyone appreciated Ian Holm, and I definately do! He was the most perfect Bilbo, and I've heard his BBC Frodo was quite good, as well.
I've only seen him in one other film, From Hell with Johnny Depp. Not a bad film if you don't mind gore and yet another version of Jack the Ripper. Ian Holm was very good in it..... I'd say more but there may be a person out there who would actually like to watch it and I wouldn't want to spoil it for them.
(Elanor- I love The Emperor's New Groove!)

'The Emperor's New Clothes' is presently playing at art house theaters.
Other than that, the main movie I liked him in was 'Greystoke, The Legend of Tarzan' which I'm sure must be at video stores.
I can't think of others right now.
