Well folks we released it here a few days ago, and shortly most of you will have seen it on the dvd too.

So what did you think, some great new footage or just some superferlous fluff?

I must say it seemed to me that quite a few nice touches from the book were edited out of the theatrical release:

Gollum on the log
The Elves in the woods of The Shire
etc

So what do you think?

I think you may be right ... but consider this. If these scenes were left in and PJ was restricted for time, are there other scenes which we could have dumped in place of these scenes?

I'm very happy that we will have 30 minutes of additional footage! Doesn't that bring the run-time up to around 3hrs and 40 minutes or something? I could definitely watch this over and over from the comfort of my couch but I don't know if that could have been possible in an uncomfortable cinema ... hehehe.

I HOPE that all 3 movies have additional footage DVDs. Come on PJ! Add an hour to each if you'd like!

I agree with you Algamesh... i wonder what we would have missed out on if PJ had included those scenes? Personally... i'm thrilled to see what's going back into the extended cut... especially the Elves departing.

Its good that we get to see it all now! veryhappy

I would have liked to have seen gollum on the log though...one of the funniest parts of the book that! lol

These scenes do look great. It's pretty cool when Boromir gets swung round when he holds onto the cave troll's chain

Ooh...I never heard of that last one about Boromir...I need to go see that trailer...lol it's funny, I found sequenced pics from the extended trailer and put all the pictures of them leaving the gate at Rivendell in order on my digital camera files, and if you flip thru them at the right speed, it looks like it's actual filmage! (same thing with Legolas and his Galadrirrim(sp?) bow, as well as still footage from TTT. lol

btw, is the extra footage next Nov going to be integrated into the film, or is it simply going to be on a separate disk?

Fatty
August 15th,2002, 06:11 PM
Hi Ashley, it is integrated, the November dvd does not have the original theatrical movie on it, just the extended one.

As for pics, well we will put up final still soon. Actually we are putting up the Fellowship in stills too. Rather a lot of photos!

Cool. I just talked to my friend who has the DVD (I don't have mine, am waiting for my free copy curtesy of Kia...) and she told me that the DVd said they re-shot those scenes specifically for the extended cut...How cool! I'll have both!

It's great that they are actually working really hard to make the extended version excellent. New music being recorded and everything. It would have been tempting to use bits from the old film....but that's the nature of lotr.....everything is done to the highest possible standard in the most possible detail. :gofatty:

I'm just excited that it looks like they put in the singing in Bree sequence (although I believe Pippin is singing the silly song instead of Frodo)... too much...... Also, the elves leaving will be beautiful

I'm a musician, so I find it awesome that Howard Shore is writing extra music for the new footage (I LOVE the soundrack!!!)

Oh, and that Gandalf and Frodo chat looks quite intence.... Cant Wait!!!!!!!!!

I'm fairly sure that bit of singing is from an Inn in Hobbiton and not in the Prancing Pony, but I'm not positive.

I have finally seen the preview for the extra footage and am very excited! All the things shown......... and I've heard that a little bit of Merry and Pippin slashing up Uruk-Hai at the very end will be shown, apparently it was cut out of the film due to graphic violence. I'm looking forward to this as it may help to show Merry and Pippin's strength and bravery a bit more.
