I absolutely loved reading The Hobbit, just finished it, and i thought about the great battle and i could only think of 4 armies:

The Humans
The Elves
The Dwarfs
The Goblins

Was the other one the eagles?

Cheers for any help on this matter

From "The Hobbit", "The Clouds Burst"
So began a battle that none had expected; and it was called the Battle of Five Armies, and it was very terrible. Upon one side were the Goblins and the wild Wolves, and upon the other were Elves and Men and Dwarves.

The eagles and Beorn aren't in the battle from its start...

yeh i thought it was a bit unfair the way the eagles and Boern didnt get counted, they were pivotal partis in the fight

Well I guess it was because they came later, i.e. they weren't part of the whole battle
