It's incredible. The only anime I like, and I LOVE it. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and rent(or buy) it today!

Don't get mad at me because I don't like it. It came out years ago in Japan, and it was one of the bloodiest animations I've ever seen!

You may love it, but if you'd watched the older Miyazaki Hayao productions, this one's only the shadow of the splendour of the earlier ones! Better to watch Nausicaa of the Wind Valley, Castle in the Sky, etc. Even the Castle of Cariostro was better than this one.

Haven't seen it, but I'm forever hearing people talk about it. What's it about? And is it really very bloody? Because if it is then I probaby wouldn't want to watch it. :/

Princess Mononoke is a story that takes place in ancient Japan and involves mythical gods and supernatural powers. This young guy named ashi-taka receives a curse from a god of vengeance that he killed. As a result he has weird powers; he can lift heavy objects and use his bow and arrows in a destructive way. His arrows literally sever heads and arms of his enemies. The grossest scene was when a fist-sized iron bullet went through his back. Pretty bloody, and I don't like that.

I have seen Princess Mononoke and liked it.

But Gwaihir mentioned an earlier film by the same director called "Castle in the sky" which brought back some early memories. I'm am quite sure that I have seen this film on TV when I was quite young. Now I will have to go and try and find out more.

Thank you for the reminiscence :)

Wow I was starting to think I was the only person to ever get queasy from watching a cartoon other than Ren & Stimpy. I remember I was channel surfing and the part where the girl (voiced by Claire Danes- can't remember her name, dagnabbit) is leading the giant boar-god to the pool flashed across the screen. All the blood and the nastiness of it just enthralled me, so I found another screening and watched it start to finish. Excellent! Wonderful! But I don't doubt that there are better productions out there...I think some of the writing was kind of cheesy.

I've seen it too! It was a bloody movie with some icky scenes..but then there were others that weren't so bad (luckily)

I liked it though

In my opinion Spirited Away is better than Princess Mononoke. The whole atmosphere of the movie is brighter, and it is filled with humor. You get to see lots of crazy gods and monsters in the movie. :) The only thing I didn't like about it was the boy. He looked very uncool.

It's Spirited Away. The guy's name is Haku, or it is at least in Japanese. It means white. You should see his hair. I can't stand it. Princess Mononoke's guy was really cool, though.

I've got Mononoke, which is amazing. Don't know why people are saying its bloody. I think its tame, i mean theres only a brief distant shot of some heads coming off but it is a childrens film. Really beautiful, a true epic. Spirited Away is also great, but i think i prefer Mononoke.

There are some things in the film that are not for kids... is it good for little children to see a girl suck the blood from a white wolf-god's bullet wound and spew it out into the river? Or a man's arms severed by an arrow and pinned against a tree? What kind of things do kids these days watch to think this tame? :o

Then again, maybe there are elements which only the Japanese people will understand... it is our history. Foreigners probably will not understand what those gods are and all that stuff.

hmm....probably not, unless they've done their research.
