Good choice, Arwen. That song was too funny! Here:
The Saga Begins
by Weird Al Yankovic
A long, long time ago
In a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn
Could talk the Federation in-
To maybe cutting them a little slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass
We took a bongo from the scene
And we went to Theed to see the queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where we found this boy...
Oh my my, this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
Did you know this junkyard slave
Isn't even old enough to shave
But he can use the Force, they say
Ahh, do you see him hitting on the queen
Though he's just nine and she's fourteen
Yeah, he's probably gonna marry her someday
Well, I know he built C-3PO
And I've heard how fast his pod can go
And we were broke, it's true
So we made a wager or two
He was a prepubescent flyin' ace
And the minute Jabba started off that race
Well, I knew who'd win first place
Oh yes, it was our boy
We started singin'...
My my, this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
Now we finally got to Coruscant
The Jedi Council we knew would want
To see how good the boy could be
So we took him there and we told the tale
How his midi-chlorians were off the scale
And he might fulfill that prophecy
Oh, the Council was impressed, of course
Could he bring balance to the Force?
They interviewed the kid
Oh, training they forbid
Because Yoda sensed in him much fear
And Qui-Gon said, "Now listen here
Just stick it in your pointy ear
I still will teach this boy"
He was singin'...
My my, this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
We caught a ride back to Naboo
'Cause Queen Amidala wanted to
I frankly would've liked to stay
We all fought in that epic war
And it wasn't long at all before
Little Hotshot flew his plane and saved the day
And in the end some Gungans died
Some ships blew up and some pilots fried
A lot of folks were croakin'
The battle droids were broken
And the Jedi I admire most
Met up with Darth Maul and now he's toast
While I'm still here and he's a ghost
I guess I'll train this boy
And I was singin'...
My my, this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader some day later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
We were singin'...
My my, this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader some day later, now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
The original SW trilogy was great! But the new one...not so great

I love the original Star Wars! Harrison Ford... *sigh*
I saw Episode 1, and it wasn't too bad. I was a bit disappointed because it didn't live up to the original trilogy. I never bothered to see Episode 2. It just looked too horrible.... I want good memories when I think about Star Wars, and I felt Episode 2 would just degrade my opinion of them all. :(

I love the original trilogy as you can probably guess (:

Star Wars is great! I love the first three, my fave is definitely Return of the Jedi. I loved the whole Endor sequence, and it was definitely a great climax...seeing Darth Vader's face...a bit creepy but it's what everyone wanted to see!
I don't have the same enthusiasm for the newer films...Ep1 was a bit weak and the only good scene was the Pod Race IMO, and Ep2 didn't feel like Star Wars at all :( Jar-Jar was also incredibly annoying lol I'm glad he wasn't in the originals ;)

Jar-Jar is too modern a concept to be in the original trilogy.... He is the comic relief, something that sure could be used in this stupid and empty movie, but Jar-Jar is too annoying for the job... He's not nearly as funny as Han Solo, and not nearly as cute as those little pandas from the Return of the Jedi (almost wrote King...lol ).

Here goes...
I was an assistant councliler at a "Knights & armor" camp
& we were teaching some history about dourys for girls.
One of the boys said "Baclorett #1 'How big is your Pig'?"
roflmao
That became the theme for the camp the rest of the week.
we even made up rules & played "How big is your pig- the game show were you win or are slain"
(the boys came up with the name)
it was fun roflmao roflmao
there you go...
we also made our own cities- my group's city was named"Rivendell- the land of the elves"
We won that contest
the other city was "Bree- where the drunkerds go"
roflmao (see why we won?)
roflmao

Dont tell me Elves never get at least a little bit tipsy?lol
And Star Wars, oh man I love those old movies, especially the Emipire Strikes Back. Superb. I hated the Ewoks, I mean Imperial Stormtroopers with blaster rifles and Walkers vs. Ewoks? No contest. Anyway all that Death Star wreakage raining down on their planet would have caused a nuclear winter so thats a comfort.
I HATE the new movies. BTW Can anyone tell me where they got that plank of wood that stood in for Natalie Portman?

The first three star wars movies were great. I have a stuffed Ewok still. Jar Jar ruined the new EP1. I can't watch that movie again. EP 2 I thought was better. EP 3 should be good. I think it will be interesting to see how Darth Vadar came about. Little Anakin was cute.

Ooh, Star Wars! I can't believe I didn't find this thread before!
I love the classic movies, I can't wait until they come out on DVD! My very favorite was A New Hope...I love that whole sequence with the X-wings and the Death Star. [By the way, if anyone knows where I can get a model of the x-wing, lead the way]. The newer ones? Well, I'd basically be repeating what everyone else is saying if I said that they could have been a lot better. But, oh well...
I heard that in Episode Three, someone else kills Padme, and that's what really causes Anakin to go evil. That's what my friend said, anyway...

here's the word around the campfire: (BIG TIME SPOILERS)
- When Padme faces Anakin on Mustafar, Anakin is incredibly upset with her when he realizes she brought Obi-Wan with her. She led Obi-Wan right to him. From Anakin's point of view, he trusted her and she betrayed him. Anakin force-chokes Padme and throws her aside (where she also hits her head.) Then, the duel begins amidst the corpses of the slaughtered Seperatist leaders.
- The twins are born on a brand new never-before seen world (whose name has not been revealed yet.) They land there when they realize that Padme isn't going to make it if they keep pushing on to Alderaan. The natives of this planet resemble little grey close encounters/roswell aliens. Padme finally succumbs to her wounds suffered from Anakin during the birthing scene. She is able to share a few choice words with Obi-Wan before passing. Bail, Obi-Wan and Yoda hatch the plans for what to do with the children. Bail sees to it that C-3PO's memory is wiped. Yoda is dropped off via escape pod at Dagobah where he will await the proper time to do his part. The jedi have been utterly duped and defeated by films end.
- Medical droids turn the remains of Anakin Skywalker (now named Darth Vader) into the classic trilogy cyborg Darth Vader we know and love. His reveal is very "Frankenstein." (He lays on a slab that slowly rises up when he is completed.) When Vader rises, his first desire is knowledge of Padme's fate. Palpatine calmly and cooly tells him that she is dead and that he(Anakin/Vader) killed her. His sorrow and regret result in an awe-inspiring physical manifestation of the dark side of the force. The entire room buckles and twists away from his anguished screams. Every droid in the room is obliterated. Palpatine has to muster all of his powers just to shield himself from Vader's wrath. Vader's echoed scream segues directly into the next scene: Padme's funeral procession.

You know, all of that sounds incredibly powerful and tear-provoking. But I'm overwhelmed by one simple thing....Lucas can't kill me with those images. He can probably make me feel a little sad, but those images and sounds should kill and its really sad, Lucas can't and won't be able to do it.

I was cleaning my room and sorting out papers and whatnot, and came across a David Letterman's Top 10. This is for all those people who just love Jar Jar Binks:
Things people hate more than Jar Jar Binks
10. Bleeding profusely from the ears, nose and eyes.
9. The thought of a Quayle presidency.
8. People who ask, "Workin' hard or hardly workin'?"
7. His wife, Hillary Rodham Binks.
6. Finding out Amy Fischer is your new neighbor.
5. Having a perfectly good day and then suddenly, for no reason, thinking of Andy Rooney.
4. The Belgians.
3. The Secret Word Contest.
2. Anyone besides Austin Powers who uses the phrase, "Yeah, baby!"
1. Spending eight bucks to watch him.
Yeah, sure, some aren't that funny, but it is only David Letterman. ;)
And I agree Rhianon- the new trilogy will never match up to the original. In fact, I never went to go see Ep. 2.... I wanted to keep my image of Star Wars good, and I though Ep. 2 would ruin that image.....

Ok after reading the spoilers I have one thing to question them . In Ep.6 Luke ask Leia “do you remember your mother?” she replies (something like) “just a little-she was very beautiful but always very sad”
So does Leia have a very good memory as an infant
Or
Is the spoiler not true
Or
Did Lucas forget that passege?
I think padme dosent die until the twins are toddlers.(or how could Leia rember her mother?)
What do ya’ll think?
Ramble On
November 25th,2003, 07:40 AM
she probably doesn't die right away (maybe a couple years) and the little luke and leia will get to see her before she dies. At least that's what I think. It's been said by George that all our questions will be answered in this movie.
Ronin
November 25th,2003, 08:44 PM
Luke never sees his mother, the twins were separated with Leia being the only one who saw Amadala. The question is, will Lucas perform the ultimate **** up and not grant continuity by killing off Padme? I doubt it, so its likely that Vader will be told by Palpatine that he killed his love whilst she and the twins are whisked away.

lol I know what you mean... but I watched it the day it came out, so none of my friends could've warned me... I just ignored the reviews...
Ep III is coming out in 2005, I don't know exactly when...

You didn't miss out on much, Mirky. :( Though I thought Obi-wan (or however you spell that ridiculously complicated name verymad) was pretty cool, and the fight scenes are okay. And Anakin has one great part, but that's baically it.
I had to see it because I'm the only obsessive SW-fan in our family, so I was officially commissioned to see if it was as bad as everyone said. I would've anyways --- I'm the sort of person (like Abendstern) who won't sit still till I've judged for myself. It can cause me a lot of extra trouble, though. :p

 lol that attitude gave me some awful evenings in cinema... lol
Obi-Wan Kenobi (my shortform is Obiknobi) is pretty cool and I really have a thing for Ewan McGregor...

I'm a big Star Wars fan and, after reading throught this thread I seem to be in the minority as I really liked the prequels. It was Episode 1 that got me into SW in the first place. I loved the three way lightsaber battle near the end. I do prefer the original trilogy though and can't wait for the DVD set.
Does anyone here feel that they should release the original theatrical versions on DVD as well as the Special Editions? Most of the fans seem to prefer them but I've never seen them.

the original or the special edition?
anyway, it would be nice if they release both separate (for the choice) or at least - like they made it with the first X-Men movie - both versions on one dvd...
what bugs me regarding the prequels is the fact that they've such gorgeous actors like natalie portman, ewan mcgregor and samuel jackson and none of them has the chance to really act... you've the feeling that the actors are the additional stuff and not the special effects...

I loved the three way lightsaber battle near the end. Good point. I've only seen Ep. 1 once (b/c of my aforesaid un-SW-addict family ;)), but I remember liking it pretty well. I personally can't stand Anakin in that one (such bad acting), but I love Qui-Gon (another hard-to-spell name :(), and the fight scenes. I've watched Ep. 2 a lot, which is a good sign that it's alright in my view. Just, in comparison with the others, the newer ones seem a bit . . . lame, if you will. And, Abendstern, I agree with you: The acting is really way too downplayed, or something. I've heard that George Lucas doesn't really evoke great acting from his actors. Somehow, in the way he directs, they come out with dry lines and just an overall lack in the acting department. It's the same with the old ones, too (Luke and Leia  ).
Btw, Ascal Elessar, WELCOME!!!!!! veryhappy

lol yeah, I think Carrie Fisher stated in some interview that he moves the actors like dolls, no improvisation is allowed... so when his actors are bad because of his direction, does it mean he's a bad director? just a thought... well, he's definitely a good cutter and knows about SFX and has visions of how a scene should look like, but he usually doesn't seem to care much about the actors...

I do agree that the original trilogy are a lot better script wise. Some of the dialogue in Episode 2 really makes me cringe, especially the romantic scenes. The standard of acting in the prequels dosen't really bother me, I like them for their big action scenes. If there's one area in which the prequels are better, (for me anyway) it's the fight scenes.
Thanks, Miriel!
