I know I am not the only one waiting for the Extended DVD with bated breath. But alas, that is months away, and you are put to the test now. Do you buy FOTR now or wait? I, myself, am undecided. I have not bought it yet, but do not know what I will do when I am in Blockbuster with a copy in my hand. Therefore, you shall decide for me. Do you buy or wait?

Personally, I'm waiting for the five disc set in November. I don't doubt the DVD is worth the money... but I have the video to keep me company and shall rent the DVD once or twice for the extra footage.
Do I get to make your choice for you? ;) If you can afford it (God knows I can't) and have a DVD player and are not ashamed to have a few copies of the same movie, GO FOR IT!!!

Well, I bought it, and I was very satisfied. And if you dont buy it, you'll never see the theatrical version again. Because the next DVD is of course, the director's cut version. Some do not care about this, but I want to be able to see both the theatrical version and new version. The special features are very nice. I do not think you would be dissapointed. I think you should buy both. If your worried about what you will do with the august dvd. dont. You will just have it. besides, there are some very nice interviews of some very nice people on it :naughty: :loveyou:
But Alas! I have to buy the extended version with my own money, because my mom bought this one. I'm going to have to do alot of car washing....heh

I agree, A! Elbereth. I'm buying both as well. They'll make a very nice addition to my growing collection.

I've already purchased the first DVD, and have the extended version DVD on advance order. :) Personally, buying both is indeed better for a LOTR collection!

I'll probably purchase a "previously viewed" DVD when the expanded version hits the market and the rental places pick it up in place of the theatrical version. Don't know if I'll get the expanded version now or wait for the "Huge collection set" of all three movies.

You'll earn the money back up in November to buy the Extended version :)

I had the same problem, but I finally decided to wait and buy the November version instead. But, the thing was that I already had the August version on preorder and it was too late to cancel it. I emailed them about it and they said that I could return it if it wasn't opened, but who would be able to return the DVD when you had had it in your hand??? I obviously couldn't, so I bought it. And I'll buy the November copy too, for obvious reasons. Some people might consider me mad, but I don't care. As long as I'm happy. :) They probably already thing that I'm mad anyway, so whatever. I haven't even dared to tell my parents that I saw the movie 4 times in the Cinema (which doesn't seem a lot at all to me, compared to a lot of you guys). Well.. anyway..
As others have said, if you can afford the August copy, buy it. If you can't, wait. You'll get the movie anyway, and some of the extra stuff is on the Internet already (some short documentaries that have been on the official site for ages, for example). You can always rent the DVD if you want to see the extra stuff. But it's up to you in the end. :)
If you look at the poll though it seems like most people think that you should buy it. :)

Buy the August release, then come November, sell it on Ebay and use the money to buy the November release. Also, don't get it at Wal-Mart, get it at Best Buy. If you get it at BB on the first day it's released, you get it at a dirt-cheap price.

ha ha ha...under normal conditions, i would have wated 'till november, but my show off little-miss-perfect cuzin was annoying me with "the lord of the rings dvd is so cool! i don't believe you don't have it yet!" and stuff like that...i bought the video for 15 $ is that a good price?
Nessa
August 12th,2002, 03:28 AM
Thats what I got it for, Lurtz, and it sounds like a good price! I've seen less impressive and less popular movies for quite a bit more than that!

I got the DVD for $15.15.... the cheapest price I've seen anywhere.

I'm going to wait for the Extended DVD...in the meantime I downloaded the current DVD rip...I really don't suggest doing that unless you have dsl/cable (it was over 2 gigs). Can't keep a determined LotR fan down...but neither is this LotR fan crazy enough to pay twice for practically the same thing.

its not th esame thing at all..........really......

It is...it's just that second time round you get two MORE dvd's. Two of them will be the same as in the august release....it's not stopping me though! lol
A! Elbereth
August 13th,2002, 06:00 AM
actually only one will be the same - the special features disc. The movie will be the directo's cut version - the original movie won't be included... right? drat! now I think I am wrong! *confused*
Polly Sandybanks
August 13th,2002, 10:37 AM
I didn't think any of the discs were the same!?!?
Are they??
Fatty
August 13th,2002, 11:05 AM
None of the discs in the Novemeber release will be the same. As you know it will be the extended version, with no theatrical version. As for extras you can see the spec at the official site. I think they will also tag on a new ttt trailer, or that might go on the collectors one. They are sure to dio it I think to drive sales.
People will be in a frenzy by then. Though be assured that if we get it we will put it up for you viewing. Until we get asked to take it down anyway ;-)

No sweat Pil! ****. See? You're not the only one!
I still haven't bought the DVD, but am thinking of test driving a KIA which would save me the money upon which I will put towards the extended DVD. It's got the makings of a perfect plan. . .

Well, that's it. I cracked. I was in Blockbuster today and I bought FOTR. Dumb arse that I am, accidently bought the full screen instead of widescreen so now I have to exchange it. Bugger. . .
