I have a question 'bout Gil-Galad's weapon... In FOTR it says that its name was Aiglos and it was a spear, but in The Silmarillion says that its name was Aeglos and it was a sword.

Can anyone help me to clear this?

hmmm now spelling is not my strong side... I think both are possible, but Aeglos is what Ive seen most often

Whatever spelling it's a spear... maybe you confused it with Elendil's sword:

The Silmarillion, Of the Ring of Power and the Third Age
Against Aeglos the spear of Gil-galad none could stand; and the sword of Elendil filled Orcs and Men with fear, for it shone with the light of the sun and of the moon, and it was named Narsil.

Well, in the end of The Silmarillion there is an index of names, there it says that Aeglos is a sword. I don't know if it's just a mistake.

mmm I checked and in mine its a spear... I guess it's a mistake in your copy... it happens... esp if it's a translation

Aeglos is deffinately not a sword, but a spear...

I copy here what the Encyclopedia of Arda says about Gil-Galad's weapon:
There are two variant spellings of this spear's name, Aiglos and Aeglos (though in fact these are pronounced in the same way, and would be written identically in Elvish characters). Aeglos is the most common form, but Aiglos is the spelling used (just once) in The Lord of the Rings, and is thus - arguably - preferable from a canonical point of view.
So it's definitely a spear...

Does any one have a detailed description of what the spear Aeglos may have looked like?

Speaking of Aeglos, are there any good photographs of it (the film version I mean of course)?

nice concept art Pic. but its funny i always imagined Aeglos being a shorter sort of spear with a broad head, like the............. ah the Zulu spears of the early 19th centuary, im not sure why though
