I was watching Nova on PBS the other night. The Topic was "The Theory of Everything: Superstrings". The theory entails VERY small fibers of energy are the building blocks of all matter. The form of matter depends on how the fibers vibrate. In other words everything we can see, hear, touch, smell or think about is nothing but vibrating energy. In other words everything is a form of music. I remember reading the Sil and finding it odd that the story of Creation was equated as a great symphony. It seems the Prof was not too far off.

Just thought you might find this interesting.

Interesting - I thought of it like the old idea of the "Music of the Spheres". Tolkien may also have been influenced by that idea.

what a cool program you watched

i think that's an actual topic that metaphysics entails, is it not?

I always love to hear about more influences Tolkien (might have) had for creating his stunning works. I didn't know about that theory, Finrod... it's amazing. :)

my friends who are in ap physics were just learning about the theory of everything. apparently they've been working on it for like 30 years and they've come up with... not a whole lot. but i do think that it is very interesting, and also i know it deals with metaphysics because we were talking about it in philosophy the other day. 99% of everything is open space. matter is just energy and that kind of stuff. it's certainly been thought before and Tolkien might not be that far off from the truth.
