I think PJ did an AWESOME job making people see the difference between elves and human. For example, Arwen looks paler and elfy; Eowyn, compared to Arwen and Galadriel, looks a lot more like "common people"! :thumbs:

Though I must say, Liv is more bread and butter beauty, whereas Miranda is depth to her beauty, you don't just look at her and say, wow what a hot woman, you see her and look closely at every detail of her face and deep in her eyes(of course all within three milliseconds) and say, my god she is ravashing!
Cate also has the sort of face which, though it's not beautiful in the classical sense, you could just examine for ever, and not get bored you could look at her up-side-down, and from side to side and underneath and ontop and up close and every time yuo'd find something new to admire and love.

I don't really love her................ but I do think that everyone's much too hard on her. Liv is a fine actress (yes, I said it!), and although I wasn't really thrilled with her part in the first film, I appreciated her very much in the second.

I may accept her just fine only due to the fact that Arwen is a charactor I don't know very well, only from her few lines in Rotk and a few pages in the appendices, and from those alone I like her. I haven't seen anything in the films that detract from her book personality.... except for maybe the horse thing is a touch to warrior..............

maybe it's because i read the books AFTER I've seen FOTR, but arwen is definitely my favourite character. it was liv's appearance in the trailer, that made me see the film (first i was like 'oh, not that movie AGAIN' cause it was everywhere).

I've read the silmarillion and i really loved it (a liiiiittle bit more than lotr). I just wish they would make a movie out of it - well, not of the whole book, that's nearly impossible (too many storys, too many characters). I would like to see the story of beren and luthien.

I DON'T KNOW WHY EVERYONE HATES ARWEN! Honestly, she's one of my fave characters. It's not Arwen's fault PJ decided to give her some more screen-time. I like her better than Eowyn, Galadriel and Rosie, though Eowyn comes close cuz she is brave and likes to fight, though I don't consider her as the true slayer of the witch-king, Merry helped her a lot.

Well, its still a conundrum to several of us. But perhaps its more like the working of "petty minds," which cannot grasp the beauty of genuine self-sacrificing love and ultimately the restoration of dignity to an entire race of people through that union.

I think that Eowyn fans are frustrated because Aragorn chose Arwen rather Eowyn, even if they are an Eowyn/Faramir fan.

I guess so! But that's not her fault! Aragorn chose to love her! Methinks too much self-identifying with Eowyn is blurring the lines between reality and fantasy!

Oh yes and the music when Elrond says, "he will come to death as an image of the splender of the kings of men in glory undimmed...."!!! The music just melts my heart away cause it just provokes your emotions in such a heartbreaking sort of way. I feel saddened everything I see that scene.

That scene was very touching, possibly my second favorite Arwen scene. For me being a huge Luthien fan, it kind of links back to the tale of Luthien and how she felt with Beren, how torn she was between the man she loved and here people. There are so many parallels between the Arwen and Luthien, yet in their own ways, both woman also differ. (Luthien went after Beren)
