Hiya Crinblanca

To answer your question.....No, it's not possible to upload your own personal avatar the only members who can have personal Avatars are Staff members, Member of the Month or Silver Subsribers.

I wanted to bring up a suggestion about that...I'm not sure if this has been brought up (don't feel like searching 1000+ threads), but why not allow custom avatars? All the other forums I frequent allow this. Some pro's are:depicts users personality, less dull and more variety (gets a bit monotonous after a while), allows others to view sweet pics that otherwise would not be seen and lastly, it differentiates a person from the crowd, it becomes that user's trademark in a way. I'm sure there is a reason behind not allowing custom avatars, could someone tell me why?

I am sorry to let you know, that Bonus Girl is correct. When we set up the site, it was one of the things that we decided on to reward members who post regularily. Your avatar choice changes as you Post., and more become available. If you look at the changes to the avatars and sigs. it signifys completing a journey through the books. We are a non profit site and for a long while we did not even have a subscriber base, so the site costs which were and still are quite substantial were bourne by the three of us. As we now have quite a few subscribers.. whom I thank one and all for helping us to keep the site going... part of their reward for supporting us is to have the ability to have a personal avatar.
I see your point and sympathise with your view, but I am sorry to say that this will remain the situation for the foreseeable future

whoa has anybody actually ever got 20,000 before?
and another quick question, if you donate, will you get some of the benifits of the subscribers?

oh and dunbar where did you hear that line, that is in your signiture?

I agree that the custom avatars should be reserved as rewards for those who donate or contribute. I do take a while to post, and I don't think I'l get 20 times my current post count any time soon lol, but I'll be happy once the Orthanc avatar becomes available to me, which isn't far off! :)

Well I'm the closest to getting to 20,000 and even I'm only half way there.. Altho I did alot of spamming early on in my time here..

Altho I will say this, it's better to make posts that are productive.. Trust me eventually you'll get there, and you'll feel proud of yourself.. And you never know, maybe you'll get rewarded with MotM...;)

yep...quality over quantity....one of my favourite sayings...also comes in handy when coursework's due in....although generally i don';t achieve quality either ;)

I actually view the forums with users avatars switched off. Saves badnwidth on the server ;-)

Really it was just personal preference at the start. We did not want a forum full of images from the movies, so restricted them.

Though subscribers and the others mentioned can get them. We do not really have a system to track donations and tie them in with avatars....though we will maybe impliment this when the new version is installed.

I will start a thread for requests for forum features. Since major upgrades will happen in late spring.

Want to lower costs? move to my country!! hahaha No kidding but read the amount u need just for ONE mount!!! such a shame... 3rd world countries fees are lower than that. Any way, have no problem having no avatar. BTW those are nice pictures.

You can have one of our built in Avatars which you can access if you options button just above the advertisement banner then click edit options , and the choose/change avater button is at the bottom the edit options page.
Your choice of these Avatars increases as you post count increases and like the title under your name, they will reflect which chapter of the Lord of the rings you are on.
