Last night while watching the FOTR dvd I just got I happened to notice that in the scene at the prancing pony, where the Ringwraiths sneak in to kill Fordo and the other hobbits in there beds. There was a sword mistake!. The Ringwraiths are all supposed to carry the same sword. Which is the sword of the Ring wraith's with the barbs on the crossgaurd. One of them (the head leader) carries the Witchking sword. Or that is what I thought. But in the scene the Ringwraiths are carrying Witchking swords. They have curved crossgaurds and no barbs. Mistake?
While on the other hand during the fight scene at Weather top, the Ringwraiths do have the correct swords. Is it just me or is it that what I saw?

A cross guard (often refered to as simply a guard) is the piece of metal that runs perpendicular to the blade at the point where the handle meets the blade. It's base purpose in life is to protect the hands / forearms of the wielder from attacks that may slide down the blade. The barbs are decorative more than anything else.
Here's a good description of all the parts of a sword. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any pictures....

Ok, in The Prancing Pony, three types of swords are used. Firstly, the Witchking of Angmar uses his sword, the Sword of the Witchking, secondly, some of the Ringwraiths use the barbed guarded Sword of the Ringwraiths. Lastly, some of them also use the Ringwraith Broadsword, which has a curved guard similar to the Witchking, hence, the "blooper". It was just your eyes playing tricks on you. :D
Here's a pic, albeit small, of the Ringwraith Broadsword on the Arms of the Nazgul minature weapons set, along with the Witchking sword, Ringwraith sword and Morgul Knife. http://www.sideshowtoy.com/placed/lotr/9602R_600.jpg
