I always got amused the way Legolas does all these crazy acrobatics, and doesn't kill many orcs, and Gimli just has to swing his axe once and he kills four times as many! lolroflmaolol

Even in the book Legolas killed more Orcs than Gimli, they were counting and had a running contest, of course, I guess Legolas is supposed to be the "cool" character.

Actually, Gimli got one more orc than Legolas, both in the book and in the movie. I think Gimli is a better warrior overall, simply because of his audacity and stout heartedness, which Legolas, even with his crazy acrobatics, cannot boast.

I don't think Legolas was acrobatic in the book though. Ah well, Gimli had quite a bit of skill which I am sad to say did not get shown at all in the movie. Its too bad he was made the butt of everyones jokes.

OK...umm...best example I can think of at the min is outside the Golden Hall, when they are asked to disarm, Legolas removes his knives from their sheaths on his back, and does his 'knife flick' - he 'twirls' them is the best description I can think of right now. I did have a film somewhere of Legolas doing it with a sword...I'll see if I can find it, but I don't think I have it any more...

In the scene in which Haldir is about to die, is 'the flick' done by Legolas towards the beginning? I seem to remember him with two blades while at Helm's Deep.

Oh that one, first off, I would suggest you find someone who cheerleads or somesuch thing and learn how to twirl batons, then you should be all set, just don't drop em on you feet, the knives I mean.

Practice a lot with wooden sticks, but try to get some to ressemble as much as possible the handle of a knife, and then just practice a lot for as long as you feel, till you get to do the movements you are looking for, could sit down and explain everything in detail and still as it's over the net you wouldn't have a cluemecry

I completely agree, though I must admit as I was reading LotR that I was looking for a little comic relief and expected it to come from Gimli, just cuz sometimes it's the easiest to make fun of short people  . But as I progressed through the books I came to understand his character better and grew a respect for the stout hearts and undeniable battle-skills of dwarves.
*snaps out of daze*
WHOA! Sorry, I blacked out-- what happened? ;)
ANywho, back to topic, if you are looking for better shots of Leggy's knife flick, I believe if you look in some of the bonus material on the original (not the EE) version of FotR, there is some stuff about Orlando Bloom's training and I'm pretty sure it has what you're looking for.

Right...I do have a knife, but I suppose you're right...just study loads of piccies and practice!

Study loads of piccies but don't practice with the knife yet, if you have access to proper practice knife (made of fiberglass and other plastics) much better and less risky...will give you a link for the company that I always recommend when it comes to knives.

With these rubber knifes you will always be on the safe side, tho bear in mind that they can be sharpened and become dangerous as well...I would recommend you to go for the "Rubber Training Recon Tanto" as it has a more similar line to the elven knives, and guess what? it costs just $7:naughty:

No worries Elfdaughter....knives are a passion of mine, and I have trained for a fair bit to master a couple of styles and I keep training in other styles, it's a decent art, but it requires a lot of responsability, since unlike a sword you can carry a knife mor often than you could carry a sword, hence the risk, it's like other weapons if you don't have the responsability and maturity required you become a risk to anyone near you...However if you are serious and responsible about it Cold Steel has a full course in DVD about knife fighting , but I would stay at home practicing with the rubber knife if I were you, hehe:)

lol...I do fencing, and we work with knives quite a bit, but this is one move I'm trying to learn on my own, so Cold Steel would help!

Rubber?! lol I can imagine me playing around with them, dropping them, and having them bounce back to dangerous consequences (ie. eye being poked)

lol... not that kind of rubber, I think! hehe!! Anyway, I've actually managed to get my hands on some foam ones from the SCA, and yeah, it's coming along OK - I've nearly got the hang of it!!

ED i dont think he swirls his knives through his fingers because i've watched that in slow motion and hes just rotating his wrists its impossible to flick it because the hilt is too wide either that or i have no idea what ur tlking about :p  :( :)

That's a rohirric sword.
Nala - you're right. No, the one I'm talking about is with knives. I've worked that out - and I can do it with the sword (Ah, the joys of the SCA....) as well now. I can do the Aragorn moves as well - it's really simple, but looks really impressive. Hey, it impresses the mundanes!
