Directing "The Hobbit" play

Well, I'm so jazzed about this....I get to direct "The Hobbit" for the theater in town.

I've got a costume crew and set crew...and I hope once auditions are advertised, a lot of people come. Especially since they are at the end of January and RoTK is already out in theaters.

We've just finished with "Lion, Witch & the Wardrobe" and during intermission a child ask his dad, "...what's The Hobbit?" and his father said, "That was the first book...that's the prequel to LoTR's."

I thought that was cute.

Are you going to make it as similar to the book as possible? :)
I think that it will be good to use the animation of The Hobbit for some ideas for changes. Anyway, good luck with it! Directing a play is no small job! ;)

I've just cast the play Wed. and we have "Battle" scene rehearsals tomorrow....Goblins, Elves, LakeTown Men, Dwarves....I wish I could post pictures here , but I don't know how.

I added scenes to the play like the spiders and the battle at the end....the costumes and weapons are based on the live-action movies. I've made the Dwarves masks...again, I wish I could figure out how to post pictures!

Well, we had opening night this past Friday, it was great! I put 2 pics in the "original art forum." I'll have pics from the play next week.

This has been quite an experience!

I posted some pictures....they really no don't give the play justice. It's theatre and the lighting is different on stage. I'm really proud of everyone who worked on the show. Audiences enjoyed it very much, I wish I had pics of the audience getting sprayed with string by the spiders.....but alas, it starts to get like, "Let's just finish this run."

I don't know if this will be helpful to you or not by now, but The Dramatic Publishing Company has a Hobbit script that is quite nice, although I don't know whether or not it is still in print.
